iPad 4..completely unexpected. 6 months after iPad 3. What is going to happen in March? Did they pull an iPhone 4 to 4S cycle change?

If they are planning to change the product cycle of the iPad to October, at least they upgraded the iPad 3 to make up for no announcement in March. It would've been excruciating for the iPad 3 (which, IMO, is already gimped by the CPU) to have a 1.5 year cycle like the iPhone 4 did when they were changing the cycle for the iPhone.

Yes, they just changed refresh schedules. Makes more sense to get the big hot items updated at Christmas time. It's going to be an amazing holiday season for Apple.

And I'm getting myself an iPad mini.

Hopefully iTunes 11 comes within the week. I assume next Tuesday or so. Though I want it now. Nooooow.

You're right, it does. Although the iPad has amazing momentum especially on the holidays, it should be amplified by a holiday reveal. Keeping it in March makes the "new-ness" go away, and most people will think that they're buying a product nearing the end of its cycle, with March just a couple of months away.

But still, no more announcements in March?

Someone mentioned that March can still be used to preview OS X every year for release at WWDC which is where they show off iOS for release in September.

I really wish they'd let us spec/price out the iMacs.

Getting the high-end 27" and then doing a CPU + GPU + Fusion Drive BTO upgrades and curious how much that'd add to the total cost. Hope it doesn't double from 2k to 4k or anything.

That fusion drive is going to be a pricy upgrade. Bet on that.

The hyperbole in this thread is amazing.

I checked from the Mac Mini ordering page. it's 250 bucks over a standard 1 TB drive.

About what I was expecting. But I admit I was hoping for 200 since it's just a 128 GB SSD portion

That's actually not too bad (Apple price-wise) imo, I was expecting that to be the most expensive part. The CPU upgrades usually cost +$300 if I recall correctly.

I'm just glad the RAM is still user replaceable on the 27" model, no way I'm paying those ridiculous prices Apple charges.

I just mean its better than what I thought Apple would charge for it. :)

that's what I mean. we're so used to Apple charging a fortune for BTO upgrades that we set our expectations to the extreme.

At $250, the fusion drive might be worth it for convenience over two separate drives. But it's still only a 128 GB drive that they're charging so much for.

If you were expecting it to cost more than that, then you were expecting apple to charge around three times or more the regular cost of a little bit of Flash... Maybe we shouldn't be so quick to anticipate those kinds of prices? might make it harder for Apple to charge them...

Apple chargers 100 bucks for an extra... 16GB on their iOS devices.
Now THAT is something.

Yeah, I've stopped upgrading to higher storage capacities for iOS because of this. base model all the time from now on.

Hmm...

Seems the 27in iMac is slowly creeping onto my radar with the 21.5in version slowly making me waver on pulling the trigger. I honestly don't have any room available for the 27in version but best to wait to see what options I have with the 21.5in version first before deciding.

Could always go with a 2011 refurb as an option too.

Yup. For all the praise and love I have for Apple products and don't mind paying a premium for their exquisite work, I wish they would be more fair about the pricing of commodity stuff like storage.

Still have a 64GB iPhone 5 ordered. I'm part of the problem.

I don't get why they introduced the ipad 4... it even sounded really bad when they said "just half a year ago we launched the ipad3, and today we're replacing it". I mean they literally said that!!

A price drop on ipad3 would have done just as much to bring in sales madness for christmas.

I also think they are getting a bit creepy with the super thin obsession. I mean for a desktop pc, is that really a huge deal?
I almost expected the guy to start licking the iMac in the presentation... "Mgmgmfmfm it's soooo delish!!! ...mfmfff dat bevel...."

As products they look really great, but the constant referring to how gorgeous they are was a bit overkill.

It was awkward when he said that but introducing a new generation of iPad after only 6 months is going to be awkward and draw fan anger no matter what

People were thinking it was just going to get a simple dock connector switch not full processor upgrade

It's been a few hours and I still can't wrap my head around the MBP pricing.

13" | dual-core = £1699
15" | quad core | integrated graphics = £1799

Same RAM, SSD, battery life, etc.
I need a 256GB minimum drive so why on earth would I or anybody else go for the 13" model at that price?

My expectations were out of whack. I thought the 256GB flash drive option was $500. It's $300. Had I known that, I wouldn't have been surprised at the $250.

How about the 16GB Ram for $300? Lol.

First time Ive ever been really disgusted by apple and I'm an apple whore.

iPad 3 already replaced... lol incredible.

No more early adopter stuff for me. I don't trust them without Jobs around any longer after this move.

My feelings exactly. I rock a 2010 base MBP 13" and I couldn't justify replacing it with the new retina one.

Best contender right now is the Macbook Air. Hope it gets a nice refresh, whenever that happens (probably they will drag that forever in light of the MBPr).

I'm 100% definitely going to finally replace my 2007 24" C2D iMac this January after I get my quarterly bonus. It's been a long time coming, but I'm excited.

But I just don't know what direction I want to go...

I have a gaming desktop (i7 930/GTX570/12GB) that I plan to upgrade around the same time. So I don't feel like I need two new desktops in the same month. I think I'm gonna possibly go for the laptop. If the 13" rMBP had a dedicated GPU, it would be a no-brainer. But the Intel 4000 is just killing me. But I don't feel like dropping $2200 on the 15". I could just be cheap and get the 13" Air... but I want that retina display! lol

Dammit, Apple. Why oh why couldn't you give us dedicated graphics in the 13"?! :(

Ya, I wish the base model was 32GB though. Wonder what price refurbs will be on the new minis, that might make it more bearable.

You aren't an early adopter.

How the hell is buying an iPad 3 being an early adopter?

Guess what bub, thems the breaks.

Ive owned every iPad on release including tons of other apple products. I would consider that being an early adopter of something if you buy them right away. They have never pulled a move like this before regarding the iPads.

bub... okay there Wolverine.

Not really, I just see you more of an Apple consumer. All they are doing is changing the release schedule and now you can basically go back to getting a new iPad once a year (which is a really high rate).
