Annie is cute but that's probably one of the last things that anyone who actually likes her music cares about. It's probably the last thing she's trying to convey about herself, as well.

Because of the kind of music it is, I'm pretty sure that anyone who listens to pop music enthusiastically (Taylor Swift included), would think of St. Vincent as "dull." That's not really a knock, it's just the reality about tastes and the tuning of the ears. Both of these artists in particular have made songs about breakups (for example) but the presentation is entirely and intentionally different.

Additionally, even though I like St. Vincent a lot, and even if she was my "fave" (she's not), I wouldn't be inclined to say she's better than anyone else. This is what's annoying about Pop-GAF stans; the whole "my artist of choice is superior to your artist of choice" thing, which is actually rather pointless in the end. Maybe it's all in good fun, because it's just not worth taking seriously.

The simple fact is most pop music is better than the vast majority of the indie shit that more than a few members of gaf circle jerk over.

And to most people music is nothing more than background white noise.

What's really funny is how indie listeners are apparently the ones circle jerking each other.

If anything, the entirety of society circle jerks itself over popular music and popular culture, regardless of the level of quality. This is probably why pop is a bit sickening at times and why, if anything, it's extremely refreshing to be a more thoughtful listener and to venture out beyond the typical radio-friendly commercial material.
