Sing it, duh.

Whether or not current singers have adequate ability to interpret the music written for them is not up to you to decree.
Well, it sort of is, but I was mostly just saving you the trouble of arguing a point without merit.

A heavily produced, non-live interpretation of a simple song has no objective difficulty or worth. Does that mean that people shouldn't enjoy it for its subjective qualities? Of course not! That's the beauty of art. But it does mean that these artists should be treated as (at least partially) a byproduct of the people who write, produce and market their songs, as there is nowhere in music where these people have a greater influence than in pop. And, more importantly, there is nothing written into the music or codified in their performances that says "these people deserve the fifty million fans they have".

Im not crazy about pop music as it is today. But fun music is fun.
Pop music is designed to be enjoyable and catchy.
Some people just want to listen to fun music and dont care to be "challenged" by an artist. To some, music is just a fun thing to pass the time.
Nothing wrong with it.
The problem is, music that actually isn't very challenging seems to be continually perceived as challenging by pop music listeners. It's not black and white; that is, it's not like "popular music" is on the fun-and-easy end and everything else is on the "inaccessible and challenging" end. It may just seem that way to the basic listener with the un-tuned ear.

It's a bit of a general statement, but "poptimists" and Top 40 lovers have a mold that's so grounded in instant gratification, catchiness, and commercial status of the artist(s) that it's hard to break.

I clicked on the POP-GAF thread for the first time and I lost more than a handful of braincells. Not trying to put anyone down, just explaining what happened in my brain

The fact that you even know who Janelle Monae is might be a miracle in itself. That being said, PSY doesn't need much effort in being better than her.

You are officially the worst person in history.

Yeah, worse than him.

And him.

Yes, her too.

And also him.

Is there a semi-official POPGAF ranking?
I get the feeling that some artists are free play to pick on such as Christina Aguillera and Mariah Carey, but that it's a big no-no to attack a relatively unknown but upcoming starlet like that lady.

You can come for anyone as long as your shade rating is over 9,000. Just beware of the #Clapback.

The artist that seems to get the strongest defense in POP GAF is Janelle Monae. Be careful what you say about her.

I don't understand the way people get down on others for what brings them joy. I am not a fan of most pop music, but sometimes I read ONTD just to soak up the joy in the comments.

Meh, if using a bunch of dumb made-up words makes them feel like they're included in a group for the first time in their life, more power to them.

like the fact that kyon calls everyone baboons

how does that not make you wish e-punches were a thing that you could send him

I don't listen to the radio, I don't go to the movies, I barely watch tv, and I basically have no idea who any of the people you folks talk about actually are. I find this entire discourse to be somewhat tiring and frankly just want all of you to get off my lawn.
