None of the two major parties but I'm not a "lessor of two evils" kind of guy. I don't think either Obama nor Romney deserve to get in.

Repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, ending the legal defense of DOMA, signed the Matthew Shepard act into law, hospital visitation rights, federal benefits for same-sex partners of government employees and most importantly, first ever president in office to publicly say he is in favor or same-sex marriage.
Could he have done more? Sure. But it's still way more than any other president before AND the alternative is terrifying.
If I could vote, he'd get my mine.

I've never voted for a democrat or republican in any of the major elections, but even I can recognize how much he's done. it's not like he has a magic sparkle wand that can solve legal issues and pass bills. He's one of a small number of people that could probably have gotten this much done in the last few years.

If you're in a swing state and you want gay rights to go backwards instead of forwards sure vote for a 3rd party. This is one of those times where "the less of the two evils" is actually valid considering the harm one would do if elected. But in terms of gay rights it is not a lesser of the two evils here. Obama has done more for gay rights than almost anyone in the last 10 years.
For gay rights, this is an election not only where you vote for the President - you're voting for his court appointees. Whoever wins will be there for four years, but his court appointees will be there for decades.
The longest-serving Supreme Court justice was John Paul Stevens, appointed by Gerald Ford back in 1975. He finally left the court in 2010.
So we're looking at potentially 35-year terms, maybe even longer, given how long human lifespans are going now. I'll be 69 years old in 35 years, and I don't want to take that kind of chance with my vote.
Imagine a marriage case going to Supreme Court, and Romney's new appointee kills the margin of victory. The dream of gay marriage equality would be all but dead for those of us in the red states. If we want to get married, we'd have to uproot and move to the blue states that will be enacting their own equality laws, one at a time.
If anyone is in a swing state and wants to do a vote swap, I'm game. I'll vote for the candidate of your choice, as it's pretty clear that Obama won't win Louisiana. I'd be willing to swear on the memory of my beloved Jake (you can ask the NintendoGAF folks; an oath on Jake is as sacred as it gets). Just PM me, and it'll be a done deal. I want to get married.

I suspect that not many here would vote for Republicans at that level. But I figured that a blunt reminder of what's at stake can't really hurt.

Are you crazy? American politics is so interesting, and it's the one country outside of Europe that has the most impact upon us, so we have a vested interest.
HylianTom, thanks for explaining about the Supreme Court appointees. I had heard something about that in passing and had been wondering what it was all about.
I think it's incredibly cynical to say that Obama's administration hasn't done anything to further the cause of gay rights.
Voting for Jill Stein because of the overwhelming Obama majority in my state (Massachusetts,) but I cannot stress this enough for people who live in swing states.

I love American politics, it's very interesting to follow as an outsider.
I hate American politics (I specially hate calling them "American"), but they have an influence down here in the south of the continent, including gay issues, even if it's only indirectly. I really hope Obama wins.
This is nice to read; we get so cynical ourselves it makes me feel like the rest of the world must be completely nauseated every 4 years.
I don't know what I expected to see on this page exactly, but I had something to share you guys may have seen already.
I don't really have the capability of relating to you. As a subjugated minority simply waiting for the tide of history to turn, you have a vested interest in public policy and the policymakers that I simply cannot imagine. I sympathize as much as I can and respect any decision you make in the voting booth as decisions made in the next decade can result in such an immediate and crucial impact toward your rights.
I've heard a lot of people that fall into one of two categories and I had found sort of depressing:
1) LBGTQ Americans who support Obama and are accused of voting "only on one issue"
2) "Moderate" Republicans who claim to disagree with Romney on gay rights but are voting for him out of concern for the destruction of our economy.
I came across this little blurb yesterday that summed up the thoughts I wanted to think, but wouldn't have been able to personally express:

Anyway, vote, and keep fighting the good fight.
This is why I only have a casual interest in American politics, or at least in the social issue talking points - going in deeper and seeing things like this frustrates the hell out of me. The fact that basic rights are still such a major and divisive point of contention is more than a bit infuriating.
Harper may be the worst thing going for us, but I'm so happy to live in a country where this shit was sorted out 7 years ago. Best of luck.

I intended to early vote today but maybe I'll do it Monday. We went blue for Obama which was crazy but all indications are Indiana is Red lock this time.

The most popular third party candidate, Gary Johnson (Libertarian) supports gay marriage.. only he was against it when he was a Republican, which was until he decided to run for president as a Libertarian. Jill Stein is great but how successful do you think her campaign will be? Do you think she'll even get one percent of the vote?
Obama should have supported gay marriage all along.. but he does now. He was instrumental in destroying Don't Ask, Don't Tell and his administration does not uphold the DOMA law. It is curious to me to read people say that he did it because of political opportunism. In fact, the day he announced his support for marriage equality, the issue lost BIG TIME in North Carolina (one of the swing states this year)
There are many, many other reasons to vote for Obama, but I believe they would be outside the scope of this thread.
Obama is by leaps and bounds the most supportive nominee of major party on gay rights, not to mention, sitting president.

Just want to give everyone an update. I finished my final cycle of Chemo on October 2nd and got a CT scan this past Monday. I had one lymph node show up on my scan back in June that was slightly enlarged. I was a little concerned about it, because if it was still enlarged after the Chemo, surgery would most likely be the only option. I got the call a few days ago and found out that my scan came back completely clean! 
I'll still have to get checked up a few times a year, blood tests and CT scans, but I feel like I can finally move past this and things can return to normal.
