I was thinking of picking up the first Fraction Iron Man omni but this thread doesn't make it seem like it is a good run for my first Iron Man reading experience. :/

You can either trust everyone else or you can trust me. Although I'd be willing to bet I'm the only person in the thread who's actually read the entire run.

You can find my more detailed comments on it earlier in the thread. In short, it's well worth it.

Just finished JiM Vol 3. The Terrorism Myth...

Terrorism myth is the only jim arc I've read and didn't really like it, how do the other arcs compare? I did love the earlier Christmas-ish issue though.

anyone else super late to the dan slott She Hulk party?

this is some god damn AAA tier comics right here.

yes yes yes

It was the best of the first three volumes IMO. I wish it wasn't still tied into Fear Itself stuff though. It feels like the book hasn't really stood on its own yet. About to read Exiles and I've actually read New Mutants up to this point (and loved it) and was really looking forward to this xover before it happened. I hope it's good cause so far JiM has been really good in parts but overall kind of baffling.

I've read it at all, and it dropped off in the last 15-20 issues. The last arc specifically kind of dragged on. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it at the start, it was pretty sweet.

Thanks for the advice BTW -- I ended up ordering those OHCs.

Hypothesis: Journey into Mystery has the best recap pages in the history of all comics.

Anybody care to provide an argument to the contrary?

I used to like letter pages but I skip over them most of the time now. I get enough fan wankery in Comic-GAF.

That's a shame. Some of the letters really show the creators personalities, like BKV and Saga. Wish I could get to know some of them more, but I guess twitter will do.

These days if a book has a letters column it's generally there as an incentive to get people to buy the issues. Trades don't tend to collect the letters pages, so there's that.

I do have fond memories of the old Marvel Bullpen Bulletins sections with caricatures and profiles of the creative talent. Those were fun.

You know what book has a letters page?

Savage Dragon ^_^

Daredevils are pretty slick. I read them every time.

They are fine, but they are just straight up, factual recaps, and they use the same Daily Bugle format that I see in like a dozen other comics. Nothing I've ever seen compares to JiM. Like said above, they are comics in and of themselves. Usually told by a character from the book, in character and always hilarious.

what are they exactly? could you post an example? I haven't read many marvel books...

Recap page = "previously on <insert comic book name>"

Basically a short summary of what's happened thus far. Letters to the editor is just what it says. Namely, fan letters/questions that the editors of that particular comic series address and answer.

You would lose that bet, as I read the whole thing as well, and I can't really recommend it either. It has its moments but, as a whole, its Mighty Thor/Fear Itself-level lesser Fraction.

Same here. The run definitely had some strong issues but unless someone has read the other highly recommended arcs and runs I can't really recommend this.

Legion of Super Heroes Election! Mon-El vs. Cosmic Boy?! Brainiac third party upset?!

All active members except those in LEGION LOST are eligible. Send your vote to...

... before November 16th.

Or do me proud and vote Triplicate Girl.

As much as I like this delightfully old-school turn of events, no one gives a fuck about the Legion of Super-Heroes.

If one man, alone against the world, gives a fuck... was not a fuck still given?

P.S. Why do you hate fun? :(((

P.P.S. I still love you.

P.P.P.S.
No I don't... Hssss!

If Marvel does it, DC won't. See also: recap pages.

Oh god, I hate. Hate. HATE! Recap pages.

You should open your comic and be punched in the mouth by an amazing splash page, not see some bullshit info dump page to catch "readers" up. If you've been reading the book, you know what's going on.

So basically we're reducing the actual number of pages in comics, and removing one more page of actual comics you get when you buy a comic.

Meh.

If they weren't recap or letters pages, they'd be ads. Recap pages can be fun depending on the book (Incredible Herc always had some entertaining ones), and not every letters page is verbal fellation; I've even read some very critical letters published. The X-Books usually have fun with it, answering letters as one of the characters even.

Holy shitballs!

Reading my stack of Orchid issues - GOD DAMN I LOVE THIS BOOK!

Scott Hepburn is a fantastic artist. I hope he doesn't get poached by another company. He draws comics the way I like to see them. Wild imagination. Interesting depictions of character. Traces of Kirby and Moebius all over.

Tom Morello's dialogue is full of the grandeur and bombast of classic comics I grew up reading.

Plus a free MP3 accompaniment with every issue.

You really should read Orchid. :3

Don't know what to tell you.

Maybe it's great, maybe it's not.

I'm reminded of the first time my friends and I watched the first episode of the Berserk anime and my one buddy wrote it off as another shitty fighting anime (don't ask me how that first episode raises many questions which ought to have you wanting to see how we ended up there), and he didn't give it another shot until after he kept hearing my friends and I gushing at length about it.

Who knows. I could only take two issues of Fritchman's Defenders before I tapped out, but I chalk that up to awful characterization and every character speaking with the same smug and snarky voice millennials lap up. :\

Giffen and Dematteis wrote the sort of comic Fritchman wanted to write with Defenders in their Justice League run, only each character in JL had a unique personality. So the interplay between them was what made it interesting. Not a bunch of shitty one-upsmanship by every character trying to nail the better one-liner.

Wait - this was about Orchid.

My point being, maybe suffer at least two issues of any given comic before you call it quits? I don't know! :P

I've choked down multiple volumes of Kirkman pablum to no avail. I'm just a fuckin' masochist is what it boils down to. :\

I don't know a good god damned thing about the Legion of Superheroes and every time I ask a fan what makes them good or what to read first I get a lot of hemming and hawing. I tried reading all the New 52 books as they were coming out (including the Secret Origin) and it was all nonsense to me and there was like five hundred million characters, most of which had "Boy" or "Girl" in their name.

A friend of mine has been trying to get me to read this for a while. Hmmmmm.

Legion of Super Heroes Election! Mon-El vs. Cosmic Boy?! Brainiac third party upset?!
See, my main problem with the (in series) politics so far is this lot, so I'm hoping this election will remove the lot of them from the equation. I'm sorry, but when you have such a large cast of characters, focusing on this lot is boring for the most part. I don't dislike any of those three, really, but if any of them actually win I'll be incredibly disappointed.

Outside of those three, I could see the characters themselves voting in Luornu or Dreamer based on recent events (and I could go with that quite happily if the fans follow those prompts too), but I'd far rather see the fan vote lead to someone more out of left field. I just think it would be more interesting to see someone random win, in the hopes it would shake things up a bit.

Unfortunately, my preferred nominee is lost in time :(
(Because personally I'd love to put our anti-establishment bug in charge)

Unfortunately, while I could certainly think of someone else to vote for, I suspect my vote wouldn't make much difference. That, and I'm too lazy to pay for international mail just to send in a Legion voting slip.
