First Hitman: Absolution reviews hit

I don't trust anyone else but RPS when it comes to PC gaming and PC franchises, which Hitman is. Console places tend to not understand what really makes these games special and I don't mean that in an inflammatory way. It's just a simple fact. So if RPS is torn on the game and lists why I'm inclined to believe them, they don't BS and usually get this stuff right.

Benefit of setting your expectations low is that games have to do the limbo to end up even worse than you'd imagined, and are also better able to pleasantly surprise you. I highly recommend it!

Let's hope this game has a mission as good as 'A New Life' from Blood Money. One of my favourite missions/levels in any game ever.

Yeah, it's one of my standout missions also.

Just fantastic in almost every way - feels a lot smaller than I remember going back to it, but I love causing mayhem or sneaking around the house armed with a silenced pistol :P

I'm really optimistic about this, and pleased to see some positive impressions despite them being early reviews. I think a lot of people's concerns should have been calmed by the great video walkthroughs of a few missions (the last one I saw in particular) - looks like Hitman to me!

I have no issue with a few linear levels, as long as they remain a few and fit the narrative in order to set up new and varied levels. We all knew that'd be the case from the start, and thankfully IO have countered that with some great gameplay which seems to retain the classic Hitman style.

Most of the staff who worked on A New Life left, a shame cause that level is one of the best seen in any stealth game IMO. There are some levels in Absoloution that sound like possibilities to rival it though.

I'm wondering how some of the more linear levels will play out. When they first showed Run For Your Life, I figured that was more of a tutorial level and the only way to really go through the level. That got blown out of the water when I watched the Contracts playthroughs, the actual apartment complex with the hippies looks like an intricate and pretty massive level.

PC games (first german magazine to test the PC version) gave the game 88% and calls it "Best Hitman of all times - brilliant atmosphere, more variety and high replay value thanks to Contracts mode.

Just bought the magazine. Review is 8 pages long, plenty of new screenshots.

Yeah, Blood Money dethroned!

Somewhere in the game is also a nice little easter egg from a series IO Interactive has been working on.

Screenshot shows Lynch at a shooting range.

Do any of the reviews state where the story takes place? Blood Money was okay but the latter locales were mostly boring compared to the previous three games.

Hyped!

I need bigger bait than that.

IO going out of their way to troll Derrick.

I can only hope; love Kane and Lynch series but it needs some big time polish.

Definitely. But we can hope.

Sweet!

I'm pretty sure it's across America (hence my previous "ROAD TRIP WITH 47!" posts in other threads.) Everything shown so far looks like it's in the States.

Eh that sounds really boring, the whole "globetrotting assassin" thing was part of the games' intrigue but I guess I'll just wait until Absolution is out before I pass judgement.

for some weird reason the real hype just kicked in this last week when I pre-ordered, now im in "cant fucking wait" mode

If there wasn't some sort of sketchy embargo, cover purchasing or setup made in the interest of the publisher, we'd have reviews popping up like mushrooms by now.

Game isn't out until the 20th. When would print have had to have played the game? Did they even review the final build? How many bugs may they have been asked to overlook?

So yeah, I opt to not consider these reviews.

And indeed, Max Payne 3 was kind of shit.
Played well enough, but then Rockstar had to go and be all Rockstar about everything else.

I loved Max Payne 3.

Some of Max's lines during the game are incredible, I'm impressed by the attention to detail and how believable the environnements are.

in what ways?
See below.

Best 3r person shooter this gen, no contest.
Gears of War and Uncharted are INSULTED!

Cutscenes. Destroyed the game.
THIS. And IMO, the setting in general ruined it for me. Max belongs in the cold and dark setting in New York. I liked the game the best when he would flash back into that setting for a chapter or two.

"My blood-stained 401K" was hilariously awesome.

Shit might be pushing it, but I certainly thought it was quite poor and ended up only playing it for about 3 hours until I lost all motivation to continue. Gameplay ended up being average, story completely nonsensical and then the unskipable cutscens with Max whining for way too long, covered in annoying effects.

Also bullet time kind of... Sucked, it was supposed to be useful ffs. Also his "funny" one liners made it hard to feel bad for him at all, here he is talking about how he wish he could change, then goes off to shoot I don't know how many and make jokes about that and popping pills all the time. It just didn't work for me, at all.
