To get all 13 Dwarves, you will need to buy 5 of the 6 H:AUJ sets. The 6th being the smallest, with just Gollum and Bilbo.

And I just realized, no Lego Thranduil yet?! Maybe they are saving him for a UCS version of his throne room! Or more likely will put him in a
Battle of Five Armies
set.

I have that 3D Puzzle Golden Hall. It is nice, was a pain to build though. I agree that we need a UCS Golden Hall though.
 
I doubt Golden Hall will be UCS. They'll probably do a set with 2 walls, a throne, and a few dining tables. If there's going to be a LOTR UCS, it'll probably be Minas Tirith I think. Although even then I have no idea how they can do one with enough majesty and not go over 5k pieces without -some- sacrifices.

I think Isengard will be the first one, IF they make any UCS sets. Many of us here have drooled and thought of the UCS they could make. Minas Tirith is the dream set though, but I feel it needs to be either an obscenely huge set to do it justice (like 6000+ pieces). Or make it modular. Put out a set with a few thousand pieces to it, and you build it level by level. In the end it is the size of your couch. I would rearrange my home to make room for a beast that big.

Sadly, I think you are right about Golden Hall. But if they do make a massive set, it wont be to mini fig scale. I imagine an UCS of it being maybe two baseplate big, and the roof is either removable, or has a hinge to swing up to show off the interior details.
 
I also can't help but feel that a UCS Orthanc/Isengard would be a very repetitive build. You could maybe chibify it a bit and make it less tall, and make it more playsetty like the Death Star - Treebeard outside assaulting it, inside you have Gandalf and Saruman fighting, and at the top you have the Great Eagle Gwaihir.

It would be a bit repetitive, but damn sexy when done. And just make it like the modular buildings. Build a third of the tower at a time, with a small bit of interior details, like the room where Gandalf and Saruman fight. Makes moving it easier as well when you can just take away a section to stack back on top later.

I am just using it as a catch all term for a super massive set. They havent really explored using it for other themes outside of Star Wars though, even though they could have with Harry Potter. I really hope they do branch out with it with LOTR, because it is a theme that would benefit greatly from it.

Oh gosh, UCS harry potter would have pained my sould. Some kind of UCS hogwarts? maybe split across 2 or 3 UCS sets, released one at a time over the years? I hope it happens for an anniversary LEGO hp revival
 
I was thinking about the possibility of UCS LOTR but it seems pretty slim and frankly the way LOTR things are designed they would require an obscene number of pieces to be worthwhile. (more than SW ships) Lego is unlikely to give it the proper effort so I don't think they'll bother.
 
The two minifigs were apparently found on a new poster at a TRU in Canada. They don't match the list for S9, but I am wondering if there will be a special Canada minifig promo for the holiday season.

Wetwired, what were your expectations when you created this topic back in June 2011?

And more importantly, have you got a new OT2 title/OP in the works for just over a thousand posts from now?
 
I didn't expect the thread to explode like it did, it was a slow boil for a while and for some reason it just went ape shit at some point. I think it's only fair to pass the torch for the next thread onto PhoncipleBone assuming he wants to do the next one.

I know we all like to joke about the absurd amount of money we spend on these things - and it really is truly, totally absurd - but building LEGO has brought me true peace in an especially difficult year. I start building and all the rough shit just slides off like silk for an hour or two. There really is a meditative quality to it.
 
My mother is refusing to buy me blind minifigs for christmas because she is afraid I'll get one she likes. LOL. they need to market these things harder. Many people would buy them as desk toys or cute collectibles or something. Shit why DOESN'T lego more aggressively market desk toys? architecture kind of goes for that market.

Also, on the subject of "blind" minifigs: the next minifig series: a statue of justice with blindfold, toga body, and scales. doooooo eeeeet.

editL Oh yeah, since we saw a mr, hyde: Is there anything I could use for an invisible man minifig? Gotta get my League of Extraordinary gentlemen on. I feel like I've seen a clear minifig head in my collection but can't remember what set that was in..... the fun house?

All the modulars come with clear mini fig heads to use for lamps.

Streetlamps sometimes use a transparent head that you could use.

I feel weird being so far ahead in the posts in this thread. I was out of the Lego scene for almost twenty years (with like two sets in the last ten), so suddenly spend all my spare income on it and post about it all the time on here.

I would love to make the new OT though. And from the looks of it, I should hurry up and prep it. I did have some ideas for it, and Ghostmind sent me some ideas.
 
I just checked the availability of the cafe modular. Holy moly. 1500+€??!!!
And the other ones like market street are 800€ easily and that's without the packaging. Maybe I should buy some fire brigades and sell them in a few years when they're oop

All they gotta do is make some compelling characters and villains out of it. Then add a combat theme to it like ninjago. Maybe have the big bad guy set be a giant mechanical spider, and the good guys big set is an airship. Make a steam punk mech to battle too.

Anyone have that email for Lego theme suggesdtions? I wants it. I want this theme. Like yesterday.

This is something that many BL sellers do. I met a guy once who had somewhere around 12 Fire Brigade sets stocked up. Yeah...
