Video: Bronies (grown men) invade little girls' section of Toys R Us

Having just educated myself with the Stern video of the bronycon visitors and listened to the tape where they admit to fapping (clopping?) to 'sweet pony ass'... You can't see why people might find the combination of children's show + sexualizing of animals weird? It's probably the fringe of the fringe but people will always think of the worst possible example of anything.

How do you feel about threads like this?

Young people have high sex drives and will sexualise preeeeetty much everything.

No offence, but is it possible your asexuality is a defence mechanism that was activated when you realised that neither sex finds you attractive?
This post is relevant.
Kinda sick of people using this image. Do you really think that the creator of the show is going to speak out against her audience? She's very aware of how strange Brony culture is and even the people who work on the show think bronies are creepy.
She could have not said anything; it would have been easy enough to do. she gets tons of messages, she obviously doesn't reply to all of them.

the sexualization of MLP is actually quite widespread among the fandom

*gasp* You don't say?

I don't get the fandom over this cartoon, I tried watching an episode once, I don't get it.

I watched tons of cartoons and even recently shows like Adventure Time are better imo, yet you don't see people organizing a huge fandom around it.

I've watched a bit of it, currently somewhere in season 2. It's a good cartoon, but I have no idea how there is a massive following of it. I can understand Avatar and Adventure Time since there is a deeper story and universe. Maybe MLP just has a more active community?

can't you just post a tali pony and kill two birds with one stone?

In my experience, the MLP community is probably more conspicuous online. I've met many more fans of Avatar and Adventure Time than I have MLP fans. I think I've only really met one person who was open about being an MLP fan, and he didn't really bring it up either.

Can you come up with a single example of this? I mean, it must be true, because how could a Dastardly Jerk lie to me?

No shit. We have people admitting they're scared to go into TRU as an adult.

thats because now, Men + Children in any form or situation = pedophile.

i feel bad for single dads of daughters.

when im in the toy aisle or the Nintendo section of the electronics i do get freaked out cuz thats where the kids gravitate towards, it makes me not want to be there.

I watched one episode when it first started gaining it's crazy popularity just to give it a fair shake, and was curious why all these guys were splooging over it. I was even more confused after I watched it, cause it was just horrible.

I wouldn't call it horrible, but the level of seeming obsession that has developed around its mediocrity still...is incomprehensible to me. I mean, I think Phineas and Ferb is a pretty rad show, but I have no interest in any fan-art, or buying all of the figurines, or whatever.

But this kind of ties into the Tinkerbell tattoos thread as well: I have very little empathy for the relationship some people have with pop-culture figures. I just don't get it.

im seeing leather clad ladies, buff shirtless guys and big titted anime girls in there
maybe your definitions differ

Just to clarify, we ARE talking about MLP right?

EDIT: Oh, THAT thread. Yes you're right, they're sexualised because they want dat otaku money. It's also why JRPGs are embarrassing as fuck to play.

Some stuff in that thread is a bit... ehhh... weird, as well.

But if someone would create a subculture of a thing like Skylanders (picked it because it's a children's IP that I've been playing together with my daughter... and I actually like it)... they'd use only Skylanders avatars, call themselves Skysies, would base their whole identity to collecting toys and then go to Skylanders cons to make love to anatomically correct Spyro figures, I'd call that unsettling too.

Now someone's going to tell me that this is already real, right?

Could someone go to the rule 34 page and compare the amount of pictures of Tali and the amount of pictures of any of the characters from MLP:FIM? I think that's the only scientific way to know which fandom is worse.

I don't know a single person who does most of those things you describe and I know a lot of bronies.

As far as going to cons, is that considered weird now? I'd bet a large amount of gaffers have been to at least a single con at one point or another.

^ Cons have always been nerd playgrounds. You only need to smell one to know that. Going to a WHOLE CONVENTION BASED ON MLP THOUGH? Different story.

Isn't that the idea behind Skylanders? Or do you mean, like, obsessively collecting them?

Tara strong seems to be pretty fond of the fan base on twitter and such. https://mobile.twitter.com/tarastrong

John de Lancie is also doing a documentary that seems like it'll be pretty positive. http://www.derpyhoovesnews.com/john-de-lancie-on-the-brony-documentary/

Granted that neither of them will insult the fan base publicly, if they had so much disdain for the community they wouldn't be engaging them in this way. It seems like most of the cast enjoys the phenomenon because it's a little quirky and interesting, not to mention a validation of the quality of their work.

I went to one this summer with my boyfriend because we were in the area and thought it'd be fun. Turns out it was. What's so crazy about that?

Of course the most public figures are going to be the most supportive, especially if they had any part in making it. The bias is strong. The creators and animators love the show because they get attention from it and it adds to their portfolio credibility. They love the fact you love the show. Doesn't matter what the show actually is, they get the same result of receiving praise for something they've done.

Just because it seems to be relevant to what many are saying.

The person replying is Lauren Faust, the main woman responsible for the show being on the air right now.

Well of course she is going to defend her most rabid fanbase, hardly a surprise.

I am sure a lot of these guys are harmless but man I do find it very weird.

And the ones that sexualise a kids cartoon need professional help.

Sometimes on weekends I like to lube up a cucumber, attach it to a Shrek sex doll and then have him assault me sideways. It's fun as hell. What's wrong with that?

The MLP sex dolls are the one area where they might top Sonic fans.

I've yet to see a Sonic one.

they probably do exist though
