Video: Bronies (grown men) invade little girls' section of Toys R Us

I don't know a single person who does most of those things you describe and I know a lot of bronies.

As far as going to cons, is that considered weird now? I'd bet a large amount of gaffers have been to at least a single con at one point or another.

Well, maybe my impression is a bit too negative, and probably based on the fact that net thrives on weirdness and negativity, so when I think of Brony I think of these 'cloppers' or that guy in the cringe inducing videos thread who makes a scene at a fast food place for getting the wrong pony in his happy meal.

There's probably also a bit of 'geek hiearchy' thing going on. It's comforting to know there's always someone further away from the mainstream than you are.

Also, another forum I used to frequent had a really vocal and annoying brony cadre who'd bring ponies into everything else. If someone was talking something book or a series, these guys would appear saying how awesome it would be if commander Adama was a pony. It gets old.

Anyways, thanks to people like yourself appearing pretty reasonable, I'll try to keep a more open mind towards bronydom.

Isn't that the idea behind Skylanders? Or do you mean, like, obsessively collecting them?

Skylanders appeals to the collector obsessives but based on what I've seen, MLP seems to create more cultlike behavior.

"Get out of the house, you anti-social geek!"

...

"Ew, who goes to places with people of similar intersects to hang out!? Loser!"

Reading comprehension. The point of that sentence was not going to a con but going to a con to get a kid's character modified into a fapping toy.

Another one of these threads...

The new fandom has actually led to new collectable vinyl figures like you'd get for anime and Video Games though.

Of course the most public figures are going to be the most supportive, especially if they had any part in making it. The bias is strong. The creators and animators love the show because they get attention from it and it adds to their portfolio credibility. They love the fact you love the show. Doesn't matter what the show actually is, they get the same result of receiving praise for something they've done.

Obviously the creators have a vested interest in believing that bronies' taste isn't weird or deviant. I was simply responding to a post that contended that the creators of the show viewed them as creepy when there is no evidence for it, and, as you say, they have significant psychological reasons for this not to be the case.

You do realize videogames are mainstream as hell right? It's far from a hobby at this point. It's the biggest entertainment industry arguably.

Also, I am just confused about the bronies. No hate, just confusion.

Still has a large negative stigma, and relative mainstream acceptance is only extremely recent. You'd think nerd communities would be more sympathetic.

Stores should have a special area for bronies in order to avoid problems with 8-12 years old girls looking for ponies or their fathers.

Kinda sick of people using this image. Do you really think that the creator of the show is going to speak out against her audience? She's very aware of how strange Brony culture is and even the people who work on the show think bronies are creepy.

And people asked her what she thought of bronies drawing porn of her. She said she knows it happens, but that she'd prefer it if people stopped trying to show that kind of stuff to her to try and provoke negative reactions. She knows all about rule 43. She's been to 4chan long before she even got started on MLP.

She also went to Bronycon long after she stopped working on MLP, and was on the verge of tears talking about how she's worked her entire life trying to bridge the gap between boys shows and girls shows, and now that she's finally done it, and she's got an audience of millions of men willing to cast aside their man cards and unironically enjoy a girlish show for what it is, raging assholes are crawling out of the woodwork to shine a light on the darkest corners of her fandom, trying desperately to paint her success as being entirely the result of freaks and deviants.

Can you come up with a single example of this? I mean, it must be true, because how could a Dastardly Jerk lie to me?
Dastardly worked for Studio B/DHX in Vancouver for a while.

Could someone go to the rule 34 page and compare the amount of pictures of Tali and the amount of pictures of any of the characters from MLP:FIM? I think that's the only scientific way to know which fandom is worse.

Ok guys, I spared you the trouble and decided to compare Mass Effect and FIM on rule34 myself. There are right now 2746 Mass Effect tags on the Rule 34 site. The count for Friendship is Magic is 19350.

Now I have to live with what I've seen. I hope you're happy!

This whole issue reminds me of the Precure seiyuu or whatever whining about all the male adult otaku buying so much merchandise they didn't have enough to give to the little girls.

19350 too many.

Personally I think the most concerning and harmful part is that there are that many people who are so desperate to belong to anything at all, that it seems like a worthwhile thing to associate as part of that community.

It's not just the quantity but the quality too. How many MLP ones are equivalent to Krogan Anus?

you mean the guy that only featured in one episode (the best one)?
kind of strange that hes doing a documentary.

He did an interview at the con Adam and I went to. He doesn't even remember what character he voiced, nor does he remember when he did the episode. He did have a lot of positive things to say about the community though.

The reasons he's doing the documentary are mostly all for the community itself.

That was Bandai's fault for not producing otaku-focused merchandise of Smile! Thankfully, they are finally coming up with a fair bit of Cure Peace-related otaku toys.

I just gave in my notice at work for 1 week, and I now feel a bit safer telling you all this. I'm a soon to be ex Studio B (DHX Media) employee. You guys make me happy when you're happy and sad when you bicker, it's contagious energy in here and I dig it. I only started here a few months ago, so you won't see my name in the credits of Season 1, but you will for Season 2 (which, may I add, is looking awesome. Can't divulge details obviously, but there are plenty of reasons to be excited and to shift your hype into overdrive).

Thank you for supporting a terrific show.

Appreciated! The folks here put in a lot of energy, effort and time to meet some very high schedules and standards. I won't lie, it actually upsets me when people write off Flash animation simply because I've seen firsthand how much effort goes into each walk cycle and background.

At the start I had no idea what I was working on until I got here, the brony phenomenon had hit the internet and confused the hell out of me, but after watching the show and meeting fans firsthand, I know exactly now what the show is about and how it can mean so much to people. I feel enlightened.

EDIT: Also the animation scene here is brilliant. Actually - ALL creative industries maintain a consistent level of hiring. DHX Media are constantly looking for new blood, so keep an eye on the careers section of their website and throw an application their way for anything you think would suit you.

Everybody here is very aware of the love the show receives, it's actually very invigorating. Whenever an article in the media comes out about the attention the show gets (from any demographic), then the article is immediately broadcast around the studio on the IM program we use.

It's about as energizing as a fresh cup of coffee :)

.

Oh the quality was pretty poor on both sides actually. Definitely seemed to be mostly done by people who don't know how to draw, like, at all. I suppose that's the case with pretty much every rule 34 picture though.

The expression in that Rainbow Dash is just wrong. Actually, that's what I don't like about the toy lines. They do not capture the cartoonishness of the character designs at all.

This is why I don't get why Bronies want the toys. I've looked at them before and they're virtually unrecognizable from the show. It's the toys that make it abundantly clear it's still a female show in the end.

I wonder if parents that bring their kids to shop for MLP toys would ever bother going down the aisle if they saw a bunch of male adults just hanging out there.

I think the thinking was if they bought the crap, Hasbro would notice and produce a better product.

I guess they will star bothering once they realice those guys get the toys for themselves and not for a relative...

Surprisingly, I'm not weirded out by this vid at all. Probably because I've seen far worse bronie vids before, like that howard stern one.

I've watched 15 episodes on Netflix with my little sister. It's a lot better than watching the Dora shit she makes me watch. Not sure why they all have tramp stamps, but it is what it is.

Personally I think the most concerning and harmful part is that there are that many people who are so desperate to belong to anything at all, that it seems like a worthwhile thing to associate as part of that community.

This week, I went to a gay bar, went to a watch party for a soccer game, and attended a professional networking event, all alone, so I could meet new people. In the past I've gone to brony meet ups. What is specifically more creepy about wanting to find people that share this particular interest of mine than any other?

Not really exclusive to Brony culture, as it could apply to any subculture, but the struggle for identity lying in direct relation with wanting to belong is just a sociology aspect I've always thought to be a negative thing. People in general just being unhappy with being themselves.

Why do you have to be a Brony? Why do people need to be goth or raver or any label whatsoever?

Forge your own identity and be yourself.

Because each of those is also an interest and it's easier to find people with those interests by identifying yourself a certain way. I thought this much was obvious.

But what does being yourself mean? Does being myself mean that I have to sit perfectly still and contemplate on life? Of course not. What if myself wants to go to a pony convention, or a rave, or do goth things?

You realise you can interact with a community of multiple interests without having to label yourself, right? That threads alone can harness and accompany multiple people based on a similar interest who have no prerequisite of having a label attached to yourself?

But what does being yourself mean? Does being myself mean that I have to sit perfectly still and contemplate on life? Of course not. What if myself wants to go to a pony convention, or a rave, or do goth things?

Then do all those! Why do you need to be a 'Brony' to do it? You are LuffyZoro and (hypothetically) you like rave and goth things and also like My Little Pony.

Hi, I'm DJ, I like playing trumpets and blasting 80s synthpop tunes from my 2.1 setup attached to a BMX bike that I ride through the mall while dressed like a rodeo clown. Doesn't mean I need to give myself a label like 'TrumpetBikeMusicClownDude' to belong to a group of other people who like to do the same thing.

Fucking guys should be shot into space. Except GAF bronies they are ok.

Also to the Howard Stern crew on here, his take on bronies was so great.

Whatever, if they like it, that's cool. I find it weird, but I'm sure people think it's weird that I play video games, or watch sports. 95% of the people on this board are just as lame in real life, just very few will admit it.

Howard Stern had his guy ask all the bronies at comicon if they jacked off to bronie porn, all of them admitted it lol. Some even fucked plushy's, gotta love it. That sweet bronie ass.

Most of these dudes want to fuck these little pony's imo and its hilarious. You couldn't pay me to get hard to this stuff. Well maybe you could.
