I'm not really defending or judging them. Just noting that while they ultimately do little harm, the modern world is simply too conservative to accept them fully. At best they'll be a curio of the times, at worst, they're just a step or two above child rapists.
As for nothing wrong with judging; nothing wrong until that judgement starts to entail social/financial/etc ostracization. I mean, moving the context from an area that is pretty easy to reject on an intuitive emotional basis (like Bronies), to one where you know it's not problematic in its harmfulness (and thus there is no merit to negative judgement for it), but is often negatively judged anyway - like homosexuality... you can quickly understand why judgementalism can be a problematic social trait - because it runs independently of actual rights and wrongs, in favour of stating and fortfying (without justification) feelings of emotional disgust.

People can spend money on whatever they want and I have no issues with it myself, but that's a bad comparison. You can resell collectibles to others. You can't resell 100 pies after buying them and he's not going to be able to eat them all.

The bronies i know are over the age of 23 play card games, are single, and live with their parents. I invited them over to a super bowl party i had last year and they sat at the poker table we had set up and played some card game with street fighter characters.
