I actually can kind of see how Sonic is liked by Conservatives, more so than My Little Pony.

Sonic is pretty much the Independent American stereotype...red/white/blue, independent, "cool", and with a "strong sense of justice" and doesn't bow down to anyone. He's how most Conservatives see themselves, battling against the evils of modern society and liberal scientists (i.e. Doctor Robotnik).

Only thing that isn't conservative about Sonic is his dislike of guns.

I don't think this is true at all. And if it somehow doesn't affect how bronies do their brony things, then it's still bound to have effects elsewhere.

I've watched about 6 eps (via Netflix) with my 4yo daughter by now. It's a show for young girls. Sure, MLP is better than the average young girl/kid cartoon, but it's still a show targeted for them.
