PS+ for PS Vita comes next week with FW 2.00, games revealed (WOW)

Awesome update! :D Gonna need to make space for Uncharted.

I hope 2.0 brings some AA to the Vita OS, those jaggies are pretty terrible.

I don't have a Vita yet, but I do plan on getting one at some point, and would very much like to take advantage of this for future play. Can I download these to my PS3?

I had to do a triple take at what I was seeing in the OP. What the fuck. Atta boy, Sony. (Though to be a bit cynical, it will probably be a huge spike of games as we're seeing here, and then it will peter off dramatically. But even still, I'm happy with just this)

Ugh, if that's the case there better be some sort of program like with RROD, because this is serious bullshit. I knew the black spots alone wasn't the only negativity on this thing...

To be fair, I overexaggerated. Under normal use it will probably be around 5 years if you play the Vita 8 hours per day. Everything has an expiration date. Flash memory, computers, consoles, batteries... and above all, people. Our parts degrade over time as well. If this worries you, feel comfort in knowing you may die within those five years and won't have to worry about such things.

The problem is older tech lasts a really long time, but can't do nearly as much. If we were to engineer systems as lacking in complexity with the same form factor as the older tech it would probably last quite a bit longer. Be we require more complex tech than we did then, because we are doing more and more complex things. That comes at a cost, and one of them is longitivtiy.

It just doesn't make financial sense to engineer something to last 20 years when you only expect most people to use it for 5, especially if the 20 years makes something cost prohibitive, or lowers the usefulness of the equipment.

If longitivtiy is a side affect of durability or any other actual requirement, then I'm sure it's a welcome bonus. I don't really think that planned obsolescence happens in electronics in areas other than software nowadays.

Also keep in mind older devices were less complex in terms of parts and suppliers too. The NES is basically a slot loader, and a chipped motherboard, I think it used an AC adaptor instead of a PSU. No moving parts, probably built from very few suppliers, with very little difference in life expectancy between the parts.

Now look at a Wii. It has a ton of separate parts, all from different vendors, all with a varied range of life expectancy. Suddenly its much like bottlenecking on a PC, your product is only going to have a life expectancy as long as the weakest part. In most console cases its going to be either a battery or a disc reading drive. Then fans and hard drives, then maybe a screen or button. Beyond those it gets nebulous as to the next part likely to fail. In the Vita's case the screen is probably a distant second from the battery.

Keep in mind too that life expectancy is how long you can reasonably expect a part to last, a lucky part could easily double it's life expectancy, as most long surviving CRT TV's did. The likelihood of stuff failing comes in discreet bumps rather than a continuous function for many parts.

But there is no denying that the OLED technology is prototype, half-arsed rubbish. Definitely not ready for prime time.

This is an impressive lineup of games!

I've already got Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Wipeout 2048, Gravity Rush, and Mutant Blobs Attack (just bought this one 2 weeks ago). I've got no complaints here, though. They are all excellent games, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of them. People who haven't played them yet are in for a real treat. (I'd also suggest getting the Wipeout 2048 DLC packs for portable Wipeout HD goodness!)

Personally, I'm excited about Jet Set Radio. I was planning on buying it anyway, so this deal saves me a few dollars...which I'll likely end up redirecting into the purchase of some other Vita game(s) instead.

I like some of the new firmware features, too. If this is the final release of the "beta" Vita browser we heard about recently, then it should be a great improvement over what we've got now.

No, it goes like this:

Download game while it is available: Game available at any point in time until you stop subscribing. Game becomes available again if you resubscribe after stopping.

Game no longer available: If you've downloaded it when it was available, you still have access while you are subscribed. If you didn't download it, you don't - you have to buy it if you want it.

You don't actually have to download it. If you 'buy' it and not download it you can go back later and download it still.

Lol, Man, that PS Vita Plus selection is so good. I bet, Morgan is feeling pretty happy right now, now that they got both gaf & the psblog community hyped for it.

I'd say get the AC Liberation bundle for $250. You get a new game, a 4 GB memory card and the white system. Then get PS+, $300 total. Wait a while and get the bigger memory card when you recover. 4 GB is enough for all your saves, and enough to put any of the games on there from PS+, maybe even two full ones at once. All you would have to do is just transfer them over if you want to switch games after you beat one, and that's only until you get a new card.

That's what I would do if I didn't have a Vita already. Lol. That white Vita is damn sexy, though...

I hope they don't fix the PSP exploit. If I have to give up Phantasy Star Portable 2 and my CPS2 and NeoGeo emulators...well, I might have to buy another Vita.

This was probably mentioned before (and it's a bit expected), but I think it's a pretty important point:

Don Mesa said:
If you dont have a ps vita can you add content to the download list and download it later on?
Yes you can. Download away with your Plus membership, and when you get your PS Vita they’ll be sitting there waiting for you to transfer over.

I have Plus since day one, but I was afraid I'd might lose something because I'm going to buy a Vita only on January. I had a fear that they might have allowed only Vita owners to download stuff to force people to buy the system now. Silly me.

As Killthee posted yes you can.

PS+ Vita content will be posted on the PS3 Store and PS+ cloud saves will let you transfer game saves from retail carts to the PSN version.

Awesome. I already got Uncharted and FF Tactics. Glad I held off on Gravity Rush. I hope there are some decent discounts too. Many of the Vita games on the PSN are much in need of a price drop, as many of them are still full price when their retail copies are much less.

Nice move by Sony. But after this initial batch, there probably won't be much else for quite some time.. unless they start offering a lot of free PSP games(please!).

Wow I am so glad I have PS+ subbed until 2016.

I had none of those games except for FFT: WotL and I was planning on buying each and every one of those other 5 games for my Vita soon. I currently have nothing other than a few PS1 and PSP games from PSN because I just got my Vita not too long ago.

I LOVE PS+!!

Edit: Also I feel bad now for making all of those Little Deviants jokes before these free games were announced.

goddamn, late on this but that's an excellent lineup. is this a timed thing, or will they still offer these titles next year when i plan on getting a vita? i know PSN+ for ps3 cycles them out, but i wanna say some stay longer.

I'm not gonna lie, I am salty that I already own three of the four games that'll be given out for free on the EU store, so I'm finding it hard to join in on the good will directed at Sony in this thread. There are some amazing offers on show, but I do with we had the same freebies that America is getting. WipEout 2048 and Jet Set Radio HD would've been buff as hell.

I really hope you people start buying Vitas out there. I literally don't know what more Sony could do for the damn thing. They are fucking throwing it at you.

lol

I will get a Vita, but I definitely don't feel anything being thrown at me.

When I described PS+ for Vita to a friend of mine, he likened it to Sony saying "PLEASE USE OUR STUFF, PLEASE!!!!!"

So you're definitely not alone in that thought.

Indeed at this point people with a PS3 and PS+ could buy a Vita bundle at 199$ during BF week and get for free the best games available for the system.
This offer has been really well studied to make PS3 owners jump on the Vita. Hopefully it will work for the sake the platform.

I think people overestimate the appeal of those games. A quick look on ebay shows Gravity Rush and Uncharted selling at about $20 each and Wipeout for $15.

Basically is: With any Vita, spending 50$, that is the price of Uncharted (and only if you don't have already PS+ on PS3), you have bundled the best games of the platform from day 1. Plus a lot of other games each month. Plus 12 PS3 games. Plus a lot of other PS3 games each month.

Not having PS+ is nonsense, right now.

Europe plus is definitely gimped. No reason why it should be different

Really smart of Sony to do this. They will quickly make up whatever loss in game sales that results from this from the nearly 100% profit they make from 32gb memory cards.

Wipeout comes with an online pass ($10 value), don't forget. :)

Used copies won't have it, and the PS+ copies will.

Or just get one of the zillion free PS+ codes out there. Seems like a pretty good deal.

This looks like an awesome deal. I might be crazy, but I'm thinking about getting a Vita now. Any good deals currently out there right now? Amazon has $160 used, any better deals than that?

maybe, but if i was a 3rd party publisher i don't know if i'd be so happy that they're going in so strong with this, plenty of people on this thread already questioning if they'll need to buy so many retail games in the future. heck, i'm going through the same thing myself with PS3 games, i've bought hardly anything for it since Instant Games Collection started. it might just be the thing that Vita needs to kickstart hardware sales in the west though (do we know about Japan's Vita PS+ yet?)
