Video: Bronies (grown men) invade little girls' section of Toys R Us

This thread just reminds me of the sad fact that animated series' just plain suck these days. You are not supposed to think of the show as for "kids" or "adults", you are supposed to think of quality first and foremost. And what makes animation different from real acting. This two combined alone will create a good show.

Remember Ren & Stimpy? Remember how it was praised by kids and adults? Early Simpsons? Bugs Bunny? These shows weren't being targeted to a narrow lane of audience or chopped to a numbing monotonous theme so that they wouldn't offend anyone. That's the biggest sin of any animated show.

Seriously? I think this is pretty clearly wrong. Just look at the stated aims of the development of My Little Pony.

I would find it very difficult to argue that she did not succeed at setting her show apart from other shows aimed at girls. The difference is night and day.

The ones that aren't weird are invisible. They generally don't get threads dedicated to their actions on GAF.

good posttttt

This thread is why MLP-GAF is in a hidden community forum . . . so, in an alternate GIF she should be running to the community tab.

But those are intended for children. If you're not a child and you're watching those, you are a pedophile.

It's simple logic, really.

You only have to watch them to see how different it is compared to those I listed. My Little Pony has more of a clear audience of pre-pubescent females with the subject matter, story, characters, dialog and everything. Why do you think that no one bats an eye when a grown man says that he loves Regular Show or Adventure Time? Cause those shows are true "For everyone" cartoons where everybody can see the appeal, My Little Pony isn't.

Prove it. Go ahead, post youtube links and show me those scenes with fantastic writing and animation that people who aren't little girls can also enjoy.

That's not what he's saying. It's still aimed at little girls, it's just higher quality that you'd expect from that cartoons-aimed-at-kids demographic.

29 pages. Seriously?

It's a fun cartoon that people of all ages can evidently enjoy for various reasons.

Some people take it too far.

What more is there to discuss?

Actually, and I will confess this readily, I have caught glimpses of the latest Barbie animated show on tumblr and it is legit funny. Life in the Dollhouse I think it's called? It's almost Toy Story Ken and Barbie at times.

have you ever watched a cartoon made for little girls, like those Barbie movies or Winx Club shit, its terribad.

just watch MLP gen 3, its horrible.

I helped raise my little sister like she's my daughter, so yeah I saw those crappy Barbie flicks and winx club shit. Guess what? I've watched some MLP episodes just to see what the hype is about. Better animation that's still generic flash, but about the same level I give other crap aimed at little girls, no interest.

Power Puff Girls is the only one where I can agree can appeal to more than its demographic of little girls. Such a great show!

You watch PPG? Give me your home address so I can call the cops on you, you fucking pedophile. Your little sister ain't safe!

What is a grown man doing watching a show about three little girls? You should be watching Batman who's a grown ass man beating other grown ass men or Family guy who is a grown ass man in a grown ass mens world.

i think PPGs demo was just kids in general, i dont feel like it was really geared towards boys or girls specifically.

but regardless that show is great. i miss the 90s.

also if you want to own PPG in its entirety:

Out of curiousity, what makes the toys those guys are buying better than all the other toys on the shelves there that they are deriding?

Hold the phone. What? Are you serious with this comment?

I can understand what he is saying in a more general sense.
Which I'm assuming is what he's going with.

We've grown a lot over the last few years considering gay marriage (With the US as a whole becoming far more accepting of it which is the right thing), so why is it we still seem to be stuck in the past over a show some people like?

My very poorly put together 2 cents anyway.

She was comparing the mindsets of the hateful people, not equating them or referring to the situations of the people on the receiving end.

Reading is hard, I know. Much easier to jump up and act indignant.

It is still apples and oranges though. But I am pretty much done explaining why in my opinion it is a false analogy.

No I mean why why do they think those other MLP toys are for little girls but the ones they are buying aren't?

their dumb, and or joking i guess.

what they got were little collectible toys, while the other toys are bigger and you brush their hair and stuff. but really its all just toys.

I didn't say it would be something you'd enjoy. The claim I disputed was that it was no different than other shows aimed at girls.

As evidence, let's take a look at a random bit of Bratz:

Or Polly Pocket:

Then look at MLP:

You don't have to like it, but there's an undeniable difference between the shows. Seriously, the first two are downright painful to watch.

I don't remember a single MLP episode in which they sat around talking about their crushes, or any involving an (apparently universal) annoying, scheming mean-girl as in both those randomly selected clips. Though, admittedly, I have only watched part of the first season of MLP, so perhaps that occurs later.

What they've achieved is quite admirable, and I think it really speaks to both the skills and the passion that went into the project.

PPG was shitty too, don't know how people are using it as a counter argument. Maybe other than "I was 12 when I watched it", instead of 28.

I just don't understand the huge obsession some have for it. Sure I love me some cartoons, but I don't become a part of this counter culture to show my love for those shows.

Am I though? They are identifying themselves as bronies. And I don't mean every person that watches the show. Not all of them are bronies.

Bronies is just a slang term of someone who is an adult male that likes the series, it doesn't mean anything else. In other words, it's like saying "Oh those Mario fans are all the same."

What is a fan? a person who likes something, so in other words, there's no way all share some collective mindset with the same exact thoughts. All that can really be said is they like the show, not that they do all types of other things unless proven otherwise, and that's not because they are a fan of it that they do that.
