Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - DF face-off

At this point Sony should be tired of the bullshit excuses from developers. I wouldn't be surprised.

I suppose that would mean porting between the Orbis and Durango would be easier but I can't help but feel that consoles would lack a "unique" feel.

And if they use an architecture similar to that of a PC does that mean they will be outperformed even quicker ?

So that level of blurriness only showed up after a patch? wtf

Folks, check the Gaf official Blops thread.

The PS3 version is nowhere near as bad as appears. There is a substantial blur filter (hopefully) inadvertently applied by the the 1.02 patch. I've contacted Richard Leadbeater and another gaffer has tweeted Treyarch directly, so hopefully gets repatched and sorted out.

I don't think the architecture does much for the feel. That's up to the software and OS. I also don't think it'll have much effect on how quickly PC outperforms consoles but I do think it'll be good for the industry and selfishly, great for my preferred platform, the PC.

The age of exotic console hardware is probably over. The only thing that might be unique is a custom GPU setup. The PS3's setup bit Sony in the ass in regards to multiplatform development.

What about the framerate and freezes?

Still, it has framerate issues. Some people might not see the difference but still!

the last impression i got from the rumors weren't that both sony and ms were going x86 and amd gpus?

Again I understand their choice (easier porting/development between all platforms) but I thought that consoles were supposed to be forward thinking.

PS3 is always the one that suffers.
Usually suffers.

Brink, DNF (:/), LA Noire, Portal 2, Burnout Paradise, FFXIII, Ninja Gaiden 3, Saints Row 3, Vanquish (v-synced), meh, there are plenty. Portal 2, FFXIII and DNF in particular are far better on PS3.

But yeah, 80-90% of the time, it's Xbox. 100% when it comes to CoD, even CoD4, the closest of the lot, was ever so slightly better on Xbox.

no, I think 'always the one that suffers' is fair. the Xbox 360 versions of the games you listed were good even if inferior. I don't think the 360 has had an orange box/bayonetta sized slap to the face. I played Paradise on both 360 and PS3 and while the 360 version was marginally inferior, it was almost imperceptible.

Vanquish? Burnout Paradise?

Come on dude. I agree with the rest.

I particularly mentioned that the only thing Vanquish has is v-sync, and the tearing is ever so slight on Xbox. And yeah, BP is just as close. But come on, Sony's little box must claim every victory it can!

Plus, I'd say the Xbox ports of Portal 2, FFXIII and DNF are nearly as bad as the worst the PS3 has seen. Having said that, Bayo, Skyrim and SC:DA were truly atrocious on PS3.

i think it looks better on ps3, the blurriness makes it look better to me.
i like the reduced framerate on ps3 as well, it makes it more cinematic.

I never trust anything I see on DF. I'd have to see both versions playing side by side with my own eye before I make any judgements toward inferiority/superiority.

Vanquish for sure. The lack of vsync on 360 really hurts the experience.

Only during big explosions as far as I can remember. Otherwise tearing isn't really a problem.

Best example out of his list, for me at least, would be Saint Rows 3. Tears like a mother fucker every time you turn while you drive and the performances are bad. Not exactly a looker on either version, but I wish I bought the PS3 version instead.

I don't see any difference you PC smug duh !!

So stop saying PC is superior okay
The problem is never that people disagree with you, it's just so fucking obvious that the PC version is going to be better, it goes without saying.

So a post along the lines of, "meh, I think I'll just play it at max settings, with 16xMSAA, 120fps and triple buffered. It'll be better."

Well no shit Sherlock, I'm happy for you!

I dunno, sometimes when someone is discussing which version to get, and someone pipes in with, "just play it on PC", it's like, do you think I'd be having this conversation if that was an option?

No need to be so rude. I was only kidding. ;)
I was just merely making fun of people getting mad that PC gamers label their version as being "superior" (which I don't necessarily agree with for that matter) while they use the same terminology when debating over which versions to get.
Mind you this kind of spectacle is always amusing to me. :D

16xMSAA is really overkill !

And yet I fully disagree with this, there are very legitimate reasons to prefer playing on consoles. No one "has" to play on PC and people chiming in to spread this are sometimes annoying as hell.
To each is own.

No mention about the audio. The guns are mixed extremely low, especially in single player. How did this not get fixed before release?

Obviously you never saw Splinter Cell: Double Agent.

Quoting just so more people see this - problem was introduced in a patch. Will likely be fixed.

It was garbage on Xbox 360 too.

20fps, Constant tearing, severe input lag.

Yeah, but it's like they just decided to turn all the shaders off in the PS3 version.

WOW the level of excuses some people tell themselves to avoid the fact that they bought the wrong version is incredible.

I sold my PS3 and bought a 360 because I will be playing this for the next year and the PS3 version of BO sucked so bad for me. I knew they would fuck it up again.. So Glad I did. However I still have a little synch issue on the 360 that I hope is directly related to servers being over worked or patching as it's not always there.

Eh, Leadbetter (regardless of a supposed 360 bias) better highlights the issues with the PS3 version of a game than anyone else. As a PS3 user, I want to know what's wrong.

COD4 had the best image quality out all the iterations on PS3. MW2 & 3 were noticeably blurrier and Black Ops looked like garbage. This doesn't seem to be much of an improvement.

He....was joking in fact.

I think it's obvious that the engine is pushing better graphics at the expense of image quality.
