Rumor: New PS4 details from PSM3 Magazine.

No BC = no incentive to stay within the Playstation brand. True for disc based and downloadable games.

If the next Xbox is backwards compatible, that's a big incentive for current XB360 owners and multi console owners to stick with Xbox.

Not interested. I wasnt feeling Vita, I am not sure I feel this. WAYYY Too many devices. way too many platforms.

MS and Sony should do unified console standard. no more console ports. it would mean better games for everyone and 100% markeds for all devs. they need to do this to fight the tablet/phone gaming space that has become a plague.

wtf?

Xbox World has used the Microsoft leaks and industry sources to come up with a 3D mock-up of what it expects the next-gen Xbox to look like.

"We built ours with the same glossy face and patented VapourMG magnesium alloy Microsoft uses for its Surface tablet, and modelled the silver band after its new 'Wedge' touch keyboard and flexible Arc Touch mouse," it writes. "The future will be black, sharp and curved."

No bc with retail games or even PSN titles is terrible news if true. Even more so if the next Xbox finds a way to have them all run.

Maybe one day via Gaikai.

My point is, how would they do it on THEIR end... they need to have hardware to run it. Surely they aren't going to cluster hundreds of thousands of PS3's together... Cell blades aren't made anymore as IBM has abandoned Cell...

And they NEED bc. Saying they don't is just silly.

I don't see anything new or interesting, they have just gathered a few of the rumors already appeared on the internet to make an article.

Second Games of the first generation will look like the high-end PC demos on watchdogs and Star Wars 1313 or Square Enix's Luminous tech demo.

I think there is a difference between Watch_Dogs and a tech demo from SE.

Wait a second, why would you need online passes if games are tied to your PSN account? That doesnt add up, unless of course you will need to pay an additional amount to get online?

The following info/rumors come from the German version of PSM3. Here's a google translation. Lock and mock if old e.t.c.:

They forgot to mention that included in every box will be my very own

...

I swear, if there isn't an HDMI cable in the box of every new system moving forward, I will snap, lol.

Ultra HD Collection if you haven't figured it out already. It's not like you'll be able to play games you already own, maybe if you own the digital version.

This reads like an aggregate of internet rumors over the past year or so.

That's because it is.

No BC = no incentive to stay within the Playstation brand. True for disc based and downloadable games.

Watch the next Xbox also not be backwards compatible.

This is why Im worry about the next playstation:

4th Used games are not readily run on the PS4.

* Sony is planning certain protections in the PS4, including perhaps an online pass or something similar.

6th 16GB flash memory are planned.

7th The PS4 will not be backwards compatible with PS3 games.

8th Games need to be registered to PlayStation Network account.

9th The paid premium service PlayStation Plus will be an important pillar of the PS4.

12th "In-Game" Advertising is to keep on the PS4 collection.

14th The PS4 will cost about EUR 400 to EUR 500 in Europe, where Sony has here probably expect to lose.

Used games doesnt work? Well, thats not good for the average people. With the world economy a few can really buy games for the full price. At least here in Europe. The same happens with point number 14, the price of the console. In game advertising?? The worst thing that can happen to gaming (its already happening).

Edit: I really wantto buy it. I love my ps3, but want it to be BC at least. And I dont want a nuclear machine that cost a lot and can play Crysis 3 in high settings! I want a balance console: price/technology.

No BC = no sale for me, unfortunately. I'm tired of buying games, having a console break and then no longer being able to play said games. My entire PS2 collection is useless. :(

The used game thing would keep me away, and if I did jump on I wouldn't consider buying anything for full price. 99% of the time I don't even buy used, but the fact that Sony would lock me out of the option is enough to make me say no way.

The rumoured "used game" policy is a step too far. Everything else may be a touch annoying but not deal breakers, at least for me. That said, generally instead of buying used games, I simply wait for a deal on a new release or wait a bit for the price to drop.

It really bothers me that they are not calling it the PS4 for some reason. dunno why.

... read the OP.

Games need to be registered to one PSN account? I hope that doesn't mean that two psn accounts can't play the same game online. That would create massive problems for households with siblings and multiple players on the same console, which is extremely common.

I don't know how people can seriously expect BC after the success the download stores and re-releases have had this gen. Why give it to them for free when they can re-release it and make more? Would also remove R&D and manuf costs from PS4.

I know this sounds shitty but isn't it already the case with PSN/XBL games? (I haven't used either in a while so I may be mistaken).

EDIT: I think you can't access saves but you can still play PSN games on different profile on the same console.

One tiny mistranslation in the OP. The sentence "Third PS4 games will not run well at 4K 'Ultra HD' resolution." should read "Third (or 3.) PS4 games will probably not run in 4K". Slight difference.

Edit: Oh, okay, Google translate, didn't read that part, sorry!

Nope. At least not for PSN. Even EA games which require a pass to go online, once you enter the code it registers to a ps3. Any number of accounts from that PS3 can login and play the title fully.

Just thinking here.... If Sony does not use 'PS4' and instead call it 'PS Orbis' or something similar, will the average Joe user not view it as a separate off-shoot of the PS brand and not a full on successor to the PS3? Is it not possible that the numerical representation, or lack of, will have a direct impact on sales?

Exactly. It's pretty cool how it works on PS3, one of the user on the console has PSN+? Everyone can play those free games.

In regards to the name, do people in Japan even mention the PlayStation systems with Japanese numerals?

In every Japanese advertisement or speech I've seen, they always mention the PS2 and PS3 just as you would in English, just with a heavy accent.

Any idea if XBL titles work the same way?

This reminds me of the rumour that kinect 2.0 for XB720 may be able to detect the number of people watching a movie (streamed or downloaded from XBL service) and interrupt it if the number of people exceed the licensed amount.

It will be called PS4, don't be silly.

It'll be called "Playstation Orbis"

I highly doubt we'll see many HD collections of games from this gen. An HD port from one of the SD consoles makes sense since the bump in resolution is immediately apparent, making it an easier selling point, but even going from 720p to 1080p isn't apparent to the average customer.

If BC is nowhere to be seen because of keeping the price down, maybe sony should release two sku, a cheap one and a expensive PS4, maybe +100/150 more than the basic one with BC included and more hdd for those interested.

About the name... Couldn't they just do this again?

Also, does it look like Wii U is going to be the only next-gen console to have BC?

Not any worse than people in America insisting on the cashier changing their bill to $6.67 when it comes out to $6.66.
What? No one does this.
