RX 7600?

If it's 600-700$ for the whole system seems pretty good to me

If Valve can put out a prebuilt PC that immediately has access to a ton of games, play them at a decent graphical level and can easily hook up to a TV and if they sell it at a decent price then it has serious potential. It'd be a great gateway into PC land and once you're in the environment, buying new hardware doesn't erase your old stuff.

The Steam Machines were a poor idea because there was no unified build (among other things).

Okay probably day one, if it is as powerful as a PS5 Pro or even more
Honestly same I guess, tired of consoles getting higher and higher prices, exclusivities are totally dead (outside of Nintendo, for now), I've a Steam library of 650+ games (and some people call me "anti PC", even though I was already playing on PC when they were still in the balls of their trans moms).

All Xbox games on it, all PS games on it (with little and little delay), emulation, Gamepass... yeah I'm in.

A little stronger than ps5 then unless is able to make use of the dual issue some how

they can't make use of it no. it's an insanely niche usecase kinda thing, and the way AMD implemented it it's essentially useless in 99% of usecases even if you wanted to use it.

apparently this will change with RDNA5 if kelper is to be believed, but for RDNA3 it's basically to be ignored. always just cut the tflops numbers of RDNA3/4 in half and you get the real world performance

i think it will be a niche product like the steam deck.

Except now Steam treats their hardware like Steamdeck which are unique solutions and optimized for costs, rather than letting 3rd parties build with OEM

Slight important fucking detail

If they launch Half-Life 3 exclusive to SteamOS devices…

boom smile GIF
It wouldn't be exclusive to Steam os, just the Steam store in general

This has potential. I think there's a decent # of gamers who would like to have access to the Steam library but don't want to build a gaming PC or buy some overpriced pre-built.

That is all antithetical to their business model.

I think there is a market for a reasonably priced and performing PC that could leverage existing libraries and what not. But that's largely because PC hardware has become a ridiculous overpriced clown show. It's not going to challenge any console any more than the steam deck challenged the switch.

not with that GPU imo. you can build a way more balanced system with a 9060 XT for around $800, maybe $850. and that's just the part prices, while a Steam Console would have the benefit of being subsidised by bringing customers to steam and being mass produced to this spec.

Weaker than a PS5 Pro.

Keeps the price down. Doesn't need to be a monster. It's a convenient TV box with console UI and fully functional with a controller. Gonna be the bomb.

No sensible person wants to go through the hassle of building a custom PC box and keep a wireless m&k nearby for the occasional configuration annoyance. Total neckbeard shit.

Its not a RX 7600, its something custom that appears as a RX 7600 series cars. It may very well have customizations.

Like forcing Half Life 2 to be on steam store for PC back in the days? Yea valve don't care
you think they want steam os exclusivity? How does that benefit them? while every other platform is starting to emulate steam, valve should now try to emulate PlayStation? Wouldn't the move be to make steam as platform agnostic as possible?

If you don't join in on PCMR bullshit and suck each other off 24/7 while calling console users retards then you don't belong.

I've got the same problem, and I've been playing on PC since the late 90s when I was like 6.

Doesn't it have a strong CPU at least? If it's priced well it might become a worthwhile console with free multiplayer.

The best part is that you can still use it like a regular desktop PC if you want to, but it's going to be like the Steam Deck where this "Steam Box" will boot into Big Picture Mode.

We all have Steam back logs and living rooms. I may or may not buy this but it's definitely interesting.

This

Rather than buying a Steamdeck because I play mostly on TV, including switch 2, I would have the PC desk for heavy games and perhaps the smaller console like size for TV for lineup of games that aren't are demanding.

This is basically docked Steamdeck on steroids. If Nintendo made a non hybrid console and one that is stronger when permanently plugged to TV I would also pick that 🤷‍♂️

Reminder: this is not the first time Steam has tried hardware.
Reminder: their most recently released hardware (Steam Deck OLED) is incredible

what a disappointment if these are the specs. Valve sure can't make a home console box can they. just have an easy insertable GPU solution and sell the upgrade. These tiny power boxes are absolute shit for modern gaming.

I've believe it when I see something more official, but I just want the new Steam controller.

Steam Deck improved the shoulder buttons and triggers, nice sized face buttons, good d-pad, better sticks, and touchpads are conveniently sized for doing PC tasks or playing strategy/sim games on the couch.

Give me better rumble support, and if they could do something like the PS5 adaptive triggers that would be the cherry on top.

I'm assuming you are talking about Steam Machines?

When Valve tried Steam Machines they did not have something like SteamOS in the state that it's in currently. If a game didn't have a native Linux port it didn't work on Steam Machines, but now we don't have that problem as the vast majority of stuff works without issues. PC gaming in general also wasn't in the state it's in now.

Valve has already proved that they can make great hardware and software that people want with the Steam Deck. This is essentially just transferring the Steam Deck/Steam OS experience to a console-esque tv box.

I think the only thing I've ever heard about the Steam deck is people like that it's portable. None of the friends I have care about this as they have a PC.

Now on the other hand, I want something to compete with Nintendo and Sony.
