Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - DF face-off

So ps3 version renders at a slightly lower native resolution, even with the patch that removes the "blur" and doesn't utilize the very nice scaling capabilities that is native to the 360 GPU. The games would probably look much closer if PS3 supported an advanced scaling algorithm like 360 does

I guess the effort, overall, from Treyarch is better than Black Ops so PS3 owners can be happy about that at least

It looks as a proper current genhd game now, much better than past treyarch games on the console, i played MW3 on my 360, i could tell without comparing side by side that this game looked like crap before this patch, now it looks great and i'm more than happy with the performance after this patch.

It's still not perfect, but textures are at least a little clearer, and alpha appears less "muddied."

Re-reading the article actually, it still surprises me just how inept DF are when it comes to PC reporting. No info about extra features, no espousing the benefits that 1080p and DX11 etc bring to the table (hell, they often do comparisons to "prove" that upscaled 720p can even hold a candle to 1080p lol). For a tech blog, their £300 PC doesn't really show that they care a whole lot about the actual tech - I always laugh when the lackadaisical writing goes something like: "erm, it's a Pentium, with some RAM too.. or something. it's cheap okay". These face-offs still feel more like how well the game can be run on the lowest common denominator rather than exploring scalability or visual potential..... but mostly it's just which games console has the more tumescent e-peen that week.

What graphical effect is present in those 360 screens that makes the image appear so much sharper? Is it overall image resolution/scaling, texture resolution, texture filtering, AF ... all of the above?

I don't know why they even bother including it. It's clear they don't give a shit.

Was it ever explained why the blur on PS3 can't be removed completely? I know the 1.03 update clears things up a little. But it's still kinda blurry. Deleting 1.03 still shows a large improvement in clarity and sharpness.

I don't get it. Obviously without any patch thats the PS3's true graphics and it looks amazing. So whats the reason for the blur?

Well, at least with patch 1.03 it's even sharper than pre-patch (no patch).

I don't know how those comparison images were taken, but thats not the case viewing 1.03 and no patch on my TV.

They're not inept at all. They compare the versions at 720p to compare asset quality between platforms.

Be honest with yourself, you don't want a fair comparison, you want "PC is da bess, guis!"
