The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Not to be really down on it, but Playstation Allstars looks preeeeeetty boring. I played a demo of it about two months ago, wasn't feeling it then, and I'm not really liking what I'm seeing now.

To be fair, Giant Bomb makes most games look boring. They made Mario look boring.

Edit: I watch for the commentary and for Vinnie.

Oh Brad, you complain about PS All-Stars not having any bad guy characters less than 5 minutes after complaining Radec was in it.

I'd have hoped you could intuit that I meant bad guys [anybody gives a shit about], but I guess not.

The moment in the NSMBU QL where they get the baby Yoshis and then they start a level and they all walk off a ledge is one of the funniest things I've seen all year. No joke

60fps really helps that ps allstars video.

I knew it! The game looked incredibly smooth and I thought "Wow, no idea what those devs are doing but this 30fps video looks like it's running at 60! However they do it is incredible"

Guess it was running at 60! I really hope that's how they upload games in the future, because too often you hear them saying "And the frame rate on this game makes it look amazing! 60Fps is ESSENTIAL for games of this style!" and all we get is the hobbled 30fps version.

For real Vinny and Drew, keep this trend up.

Classic or iconic characters third party characters are a natural fit. Upcoming third party multiplat reincarnations of said characters... not so much. I think it's a fairly obvious observation to make.

Judging by literally your next follow up comment compared to the GB crew's stance on Big Daddy's inclusion, I think that would indicate that, no, it's not quite a cut and dry observation to make. Hell, even this thread isn't as black and white on what deserves to be in or not.

While they did seem to go instead the PS All Stars QL uninterested in the game (which is pretty common for them, really), I can't really blame them for feeling frustrated with it. In my brief time with it, I thought it felt really clunky and found it super easy to lose track of stuff. That might get better with some practice, but starting out it seems like a pretty common problem people have.

And the roster could just never be as good as what Smash Bros has got.

It seemed like they were coming around on it though, which I think was the most interesting bit. If 4 people who are ambivalent about the game can play it for half an hour and have a good time, there's something there.

I agree about the roster though. Though keep in mind, if we had gotten final fantasy characters, it would have been Lightning, not Cloud.

I'm sorry for being gross, but wouldn't a Hitman-style strangulation with a piano string result in the dude's neck or throat being cut wide open? He sure seems to put a lot of force into it.

I don't think it would be 'cut open', but you'd probably get a surface deep cut all the way around on the throat. I think the general reason you'd want such a thin wire for garrotting is because it's very hard for the victim to get a hold of the wire and pull it away from his throat.

I don't know dude, that wire is pretty thin.

You wouldn't strangle somebody with a wire so thin that it would cut through their flesh. Anything that thin would be likely to snap. A piano wire suitable for strangulation is more along the lines of a heavy bass guitar string. It would cause some surface marking, but wouldn't slice into flesh.

Watching the Batman WiiU Quick Look... and I have to admit I would love to spend a Friday afternoon watching Brad beat all of the challenge rooms. TeamBradman? BradmanBradmanBradman?

Ah, that makes sense. I was indeed thinking of a thin guitar string.

I like the look of Epic Mickey but it seems, based on what I've seen, they just haven't come up with interesting ways to use their main mechanic. It just looks boring.

Ahh I think you mean bad guys you personally give a shit about, which is impossible for anyone to intuit. Plenty of people loved Radec and thought he was a great antagonist, Killzone 2 is a popular PS3 exclusive and his inclusion is one of the few characters that actually makes sense. Let's face it you were just trying to pick holes because it's a mediocre Smash Bros. rip-off.

I've played every Killzone game (except the handheld ones) and have no idea who Radec is. Another guy in a mask with glowing eyes? How distinctive and memorable.

While I'm not surprised Disney would act tentatively with their premiere IP, these games will will be one of my most disappointing ever considering the source material and how far they could have pushed it with more creative freedom.

He is the (super fucking hard) final boss and main antogonist in 2.

I nearly finished Killzone 2 but quit because I kept losing to the final boss. Until this thread I actually had no idea who he was.

Did they steal the sound effects directly from the DuckTales game?
The "bop" sound is straight from Castle of Illusion.

Game looks really bad :/ The artwork is great, but I strongly dislike bringing all these other Disney franchises, as well as the orchestral renditions of the old CoI tunes. The gameplay itself also seems much too slow-paced.

I wish they would have just made a straight-up Power of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse platformer.

*shrug* At the time leading up to Killzone 3's release all I kept hearing was how awesome people thought Radec was, how
disappointed they were he got killed off and how the new antagonist is not going to be nearly as cool as Radec was.
I don't blame you for not paying attention to the story in FPS #20394 but it was quite clear who the antagonist was.

Oh my god, Jeff's "Scrooge" voice is amazing.

Also I'm surprised Power of Illusion even got released with that crappy painting/thinning minigame mechanic. Totally kills the game.

Oh man Jeff was on fire in this one.

"
Jack Tretton's Level 3 super is that he forces everyone to make Vita games and it kills them.
"

I said goddamn.
Followed by the Phil Hartman joke. Oh, Jeff...

The actual game isn't much better.
I guess I wanted to actually see that for myself rather than have Brad potter though menus and tell me about all these gameplay functions without ever actually showing them. Also, I don't know what he is smoking but the dialog in that game is horrible. Characters spouting "fuck" multiple times per sentence isn't good or interesting writing.

Ps smash is a bit embarrassing at this point. It's like you take every good idea, character, and mechanic from smash and stuff the holes full of trash.
