Wii U back in stock at GameStop

This is a bit of a misconception. Nobody seems to remember the Wii launch very well.

The system's launch was not a big deal. I waited at Best Buy and bought one on launch, they didn't even sell out, and then I went across the street to Target and bought another. The Wii didn't become the big thing until about a week or two after launch. Resale prices on Ebay didn't get above $350 until a few weeks after and then the thing became impossible to find for months. The launch was very meh and it immediately seemed like the system would flop, the success only came after the system was out in the wild and word of mouth started to spread.

Maybe the Wii U can do the same.

Yeah I got a Wii off eBay a few days after launch for about $30 over retail. It was hard to find but the demand wasnt really there yet.

Seems the demand for Wii U is even less though and I dont know if word of mouth will help this time.

Are we really really going to base the WiiU sales on information from last night at the time we already know through the OP and the thread title that WiiU stocks were replenished?

I mean really?

It feels weird seeing all this negativity surrounding the Wii U. I'm absolutely in love with the thing. I enjoy it more than I ever did the PS3.

I'm only seeing this on gaf. It seems though almost everyone in the release day thread is enjoying their systems.

Pretty much. I mean, it has been a looonnnggg time since a console launch. 6-7 years GAF and has a ton of expectations about what needs to be next gen (see Master Race and all that garbage). Nintendo's machine is not going to fill that void. Next year when the PS4/720 come to light there are going to be even bigger meltdowns.

You know what? The Wiiu should be in stock,it's a consumer product. The notion that a console is a failure because you can actually find it is ridiculous. Good on Nintendo for actually being able to keep up with demand.

Stop using logic! You'll hurt peoples ears (seriously though; some of this 'its a flop' nonsense is ridiculous; going at replenishment periods and expecting the thing to be sold out everywhere/anywhere and for all the first shipment to be the only stock being provided this year). We honestly have no real idea, and success in launch week means nothing; its the weeks after Christmas thats to watch imo.

Its out of stock at Gamestop now anyway

Just so you guys get an idea, the stock (around 1200-1500 units) sold out in about 15-20 hours. That's over a unit a minute.

I don't think that is bad considering people had to be informed of the stock to begin with.

EDIT: Okay. That sounds alright. Also seems people are holding off of the Basic, going for Deluxe instead. So that likely had some effect in there too.

The machine is in line with my expectations. But then, my plan was always to go Wii U for Nintendo franchises + PC for powerful AAA titles this gen. It'll take a LOT from the other two in terms of exclusives and the like to change my mind on that.

I specifically remember Wii being demoed on the Today Show before release.

Yeah, I edited it because I didn't realize it had sold out around 11AM, which makes it even better. It's over a unit a minute, and considering there was about a 6-hour lull during the night, I think this is very good.

Obviously the deluxe edition has the name, the game, the promotion, and the color on its side. The deluxe model sold 700-1000 units in about 2-3 hours (depending on how accurate the OP is to the time of stock). That's approximately 4-5 units sold a minute, or 1 every 12-15 seconds.

Nintendo should have a PR coming out pretty soon. Will be interesting to see which side is bullshitting about sales and stock availability in stores. From what I've seen, it's selling very well in the Atlanta area. They definitely have more consoles than the Wii launch. Whether it's doing better than Wii or not is debatable

I'd buy one, even after the madness, for NG3:RE, Zombie U, and future Bayonetta. But I refuse to play without 5.1, so it'll have to wait until I've upgraded my receiver.

Combination of bad worth of mouth, general overall indifference/ignorance to the system by the mass public, and that Nintendo just shipped a lot of new systems out

Geez

If you are still looking for one, should check out target. For example every store in the state of SC has the system in stock and every store but 2 have the deluxe.

Is there actually bad word of mouth or is that just people blowing hot air?
I honestly don't think there's much word of mouth at all surrounding it. Might be an age thing or something though.

I saw one guy on Facebook a minute ago trying to sell a 'ticket' for an in-store pickup for what he called a "Wii" at a Walmart a couple of hours from here. Weird because Walmart had them in stock in the store here the other day. He was trying to sell it for $30. That's pretty much all I've heard about the console first-hand.

All I know is that I had a Wii-U party, and now everyone wants one.

Everyone.

._.

Never seen a console launch which was so readily available. Keep seeing them in stores in stock too.. so used to seeing this stuff out everywhere for months. Maybe nintendo figured it out for once to make enough for holiday demand?

Original XBox. From launch morning onward they were always in stock.

What did ya'll play? Maybe a question for another thread, but is the NSMBU gamepad thing where someone pokes in platforms fun? Looks like something that's either really boring or hilarious fun.

I've played some 5 person, it's actually really fun. I thought the gamepad person might have felt left out but it was surprisingly great

So first preorders are sold out in a day and people say Nintendo is making shortages to create demand.

Now stores are getting restocked and people are saying its not selling at all.

I can't...

I think this is much more the case. Only two people I know have got one on launch. My nephews and a friend of mine. In both instances I had to ask them about the system before they started to volunteer any information. My nephews "Mario is really cool!" , Roger my friend "I like it. Its going to be great playing on the gamepad while my wife is watching tv." Nothing negative but it isn't riding the wave of enthusiasm the Wii was by any stretch.

Has there ever been a system launch that didn't sell out through pre-orders? Genuinely curious. I can't think of any system that wasn't hard to find the first couple weeks after release.

Well, that's the crux of it, no? How much demand is there?

no, but that wasn't the point of that post.

It was last night, we started with Nintendo Land (ridiculous success), then played some Mario (detailed below), and finished with a mass audience for Zombi U.

There were about 12 of us in total, so we took turns doing everything.

For Mario, we gave the pad to the people who didn't feel comfortable platforming, and it was beyond hilarious when watching, but seemed frustrating for those being effected. My roommate's girlfriend kept fucking him (my roommate) over by placing blocks right over him so he couldn't jump. After a while of chuckling, she began to snort uncontrollably and had to give the pad up. I felt bad for her embarrassment, but it was pure gold.

Nintendo Land was the biggest success between the 3 chase games and some serious Metroid competition between the guys.

ZombiU ended up impressing everyone as we were tired and worn out by the time we started playing that. Hearing the whole room scream at certain moments was priceless.

Such a good time, and I think the Wii U really deserves success, especially with its diverse line-up. I can't wait for Rayman to add to the party! Pikmin and P-100 will probably be for my core experience until more is announced - come on Nintendo!

Where's the New Zelda, that's what I wanna know.

I saw two basic units at wal-mart last night. I almost bought one.

Somebody tell me, if I plan on using an external HDD for storage, don't care about Nintendoland, what would I be missing if I bought a basic bundle?

I took this picture on Tuesday. This same stack was there on Wednesday. The system is easy to find unlike the original Wii.

yeah there are stacks of them everywhere around here

guess my fiancee didn't really need to pre-order for my birthday. Should have just waited until Pikmin 3 considering the launch lineup :/

Some stands and the Digital Deluxe Promotion basically. Digital Deluxe Promotion gives you 10% cashback in points on anything you purchase digitally from the Wii U eShop. http://ddp.nintendo.com/

Theres a difference between not selling out and regular efficient supply
Wii U is selling out but NoA are running a speedy supply line.

Why on earth would they rush to launch for Black Friday if they didn't plan to have plenty stock for Friday??

Use your heads.

Wii U will be on sale for Black Friday? Where is this? People only buy stuff heavily discounted on BF, you know. They aren't going to plunk down for MSRP. They'll do that any other day.
