Is this some sort of revisionist history? The Wii was sold out everywhere for well over a year after launch. Shipments constantly sold out. Heck, I sold my year old Wii for a profit.

I don't think the WiiU will be a sales flop, but it doesn't have the juice behind it that the Wii had.

I dont think some of the posters were old enough to be out there trying to find a Wii 6 years ago. It was crazy trying to find one of those things.

Im not kidding when i say people were meeting the UPS man at Gamestop.

I could have sworn I could have easily sold mine on ebay for 600 (nice profit on 250 and no tax). So there was definite demand from the start with Wii. I stupidly kept mine because I'd already gotten fat on the PS3 (2000 on ebay).

EDIT: And yeah. It was at least a year (and beyond the next Christmas) before you could easily get one. You literally had to be there when they were put on shelves or they'd be gone within an hour or so.

Not sure what you mean, they only hold onto your waitlisted Wii U for 24 hours and then will sell it.

I got the robocall on Monday saying my Wii U was available to pick up, totally ignored it (have no interest in buying one). Then I got another one on Wednesday saying my Wii U was available to pick up. I hope these two calls were for the two different units I put myself on the list for and not some general call otherwise I'm going to have to harass them to get me off the damn list when they call again :/
 
This launch isn't that bad. Someone dig up the post-launch photos of the PS3s stacked up in the GameStop bathroom and the castle of PS3s that some Best Buy built

They had just got them in, but DM choose to sell some instead apparently. Robocalls did go out, so hopefully not everyone wanted them still. One way or another, I think 4 or 5 of the dozen or so were put out for sale.. I have no idea if that changed or if they sold, etc.

Why do you want Nintendo going out of business? Panic-mode isn't something you can do any time. Nintendo has lost lots of money because of this, I don't know if Iwata can afford an other drastic price drop without stepping down.

Because he's delusional and thinks them releasing more games quickly like they did with the 3DS than slower releases but being financially sound.

Anyone can go out and post pictures of randomass Wii U stock AFTER a restock and claim that its not selling. Doesn't prove a dang thang Mr Hero. Let's wait on Nintendo PR for confirmation of sales and see who really is BSing on "retailer musings"
 
Just went to a Gamestop in Paramus NJ and they had a pile of about 5-7 Wii U basic sets.

Asked the guy if I could get any deluxe in any other Gamestop in and around NJ/NY and he said a quick glance on his system only shows basic set.

Still don't want to open it. I really wanted the black console with 16GB. Going to go check the local BestBuy just in case they have a deluxe set.

Panic mode is a set of preventative measures for ensuring Nintendo doesn't go out of business. I'm sure everyone would agree the 3DS is far better positioned and more profitable (hardware and software wise) than it would have been without Nintendo actually taking the system seriously.

Also, nice spin on saying that since I want the Wii U to get better automatically means Nintendo has to sacrifice all profit and go into the red to appease me, thus making me look like the selfish one. Being pro consumer is overrated anyways.
 
Well I'm glad people are finding stacks of consoles all over the place but here in central florida I checked 10 different stores over a fairly wide radius and found 1 Basic unit total. Granted, I'm in an area with about 4 or 5 different colleges and a video game school, but flipping through this thread got my hopes up nonetheless :/

I'll be glad when I can just buy one online.

I remember standing outside of Target and them giving tickets out for 30 units when there were about 100+ people in line(I was number 27) and this one guy was on his phone probably 20 people back from me and just started running for his car. Everyone turned and watched him and about 40 people started running after him and this woman was screaming "He knows where there in stock I heard him, I heard him!!!"

Yeah that was crazy times.
 
Finally found a Deluxe today at a Target across town. My wife and I started calling just after stores opened she had a manager do a stock check on their system and confirmed a store had 4. Called them and tried to pay by phone they would't let us so my wife convinced them to hold it for 1 hr till we can get across town. Got the baby both got changed and drove like crazy. Got it and a bunch of Christmas lights for the house. For anyone else with Targets nearby they said they get shipments Mon, Wed and Friday when they open the first shift puts stock away so that is a good bet if you try those days. Most of the shipments are 3-4 units from what I've seen. Downloading system update now.
 
just got a call for the 8gb wii u i'd asked to be put on the waitlist for at my local gamestop. i'm with my folks right now and wouldn't be able to make it back to my place before it closed, but i don't think i'd pick one up right now anyway. $400 for nsmbu isn't really worth it.
 
So posted earlier about how I found the basic set at a NJ Gamestop.

Really knew I didn't want it and was going to try to find the deluxe somewhere.

Then got home lazy and was like ahh forget it its only a color difference mainly (since the external HDD will suffice). Randomly ran out for some errands and ended up at the local gamstop in NYC where I live. They tell me they just got some shipment of deluxe consoles.

SUCCESS!

Though the gamestop dude in NYC was like "Umm I don't know if I can take back the other one". I had to explain that I did not open it. I just bought it earlier today. Again and again I told him its brand new, not open, and that the clerk from the first gamestop told me I can return at any other location.

Insisted I check back tomorrow when they can run it by some manager. So now I'm thinking of selling it online if I can make some sort of profit on it. Or is it too widely available for that to work?
 
Well, I just walked around my local Best Buy and Target here in Fresno, CA; not a single Wii U to be found. They had stacks of PS3s and 360s, though, therefor those must have bombed.

i dont quite understand this. i love how the gamepad looks in white. i know i paid extra for basic plus nintendoland, but i would not want the controller in black.
 
Basic bundle all the way. Seemed like a much better choice with a external HDD. Nintendoland will be in preowned bargain bins/eBay/whatever if I ever decide I need it. And white looks way better in terms of Wii U, IMO.

Nintendo has lost money for nearly two years. And I'm not sure if a moderate price drop weren't good enough for the 3DS business instead of panic mode, but that's pure speculation and not a very interesting talking point.

Anyway, the best for the business (and for the stock price) is decent demand for the next few months. Till end of the fiscal year, the console has enough quality games to attract consumers.

Really? $50 more and you get way more shit. Plus a nice black colored system (I know you said you prefer white, but I'm all for the black one).

I like having the stands that came with the bigger bundle. And I do like that I do have 32gb internal so I don't have to rush out and find an external that will work nicely with it. Either way, I'm happy my girlfriend and I lucked out upon one the other day.

I bought the deluxe only because I wanted the charging cradle and black color.

The 3DS ruined me in that I buy charging cradles for everything I own now.

Was at Nintendo store earlier and they thought I was crazy when I returned my preordered deluxe for a basic

Oh and Nintendo store has plenty of stock of both
 
I have a deluxe but kind of wish I had gotten the basic. At the time of preorder I wasn't sure what was going to happen concerning memory.

since I have yet to purchase any downloadable titles I may look into somehow exchanging my deluxe for a basic. somehow. maybe I could find someone who would rather have a deluxe and I'd swap them for it for no additional charge or something.
 
People really like to use the term panic mode even though everything Nintendo did last year with the 3DS (excluding how big the price drop was) would have happened anyway. MH was always going to 3DS and Nintendo was always going to release SM3D Land and MK7 last holiday together.

And no, they're not in any danger of going out of business. Overreaction much? They have fucking $13 billion saved in the bank... they're could endure 5 Dreamcast level failures in a row and still be fine.

The Wii was impossible to find at launch. I don't remember how long it was until I saw some on the shelves, but it felt close to six months when I saw them regularly.

I'm seeing Wii U in stock at most stores: Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Gamestop, and even at Frys.

Not a good sign.
 
So I was at my inlaws and I saw a brand new Wii on the table. I asked them what they were doing with it and my father-in-law said that he wanted to play the new call of duty. Apparently, they asked some guy working the counter at target if they could play Wii-U games with the Wii and the dumbass said yes, you can.

Are you freggin kidding me?

So, luckily they didn't open the thing and didn't buy the game. I told them to take that Wii back and find the moron that told them the lie and smack him upside the head.

Is there confusion about the WiiU amongst the general public? You better believe it. There is confusion, apparently, with retail.

It's a silly, overblown meme that just won't die. If Wii U actually does sell poorly out of the gate (which we'll need some solid sales figures to judge, mind you), it's clearly going to be in a much worse position than 3DS was early on - it'll already have had several big first-party titles, it'll be with one holiday season under its belt, and the current negative profit margin will diminish Nintendo's ability to cut the price.
