College Football Week 14 - Conference Championship Games and Pseudo Championships

Depends. If the higher ranked team is #3 they get an automatic bid. Or if they are #4 and #3 already got in on an automatic bid or is ineligible for a BCS bowl (probably not this year).

Depends on the rankings! If UF is #3 in the BCS rankings, they have to be taken.

Ahhh. Now I see the rub. I thought the #3 rule was only for schools not in conferences with an automatic bid.

Ahhh. Now I see the rub. I thought the #3 rule was only for schools not conferences with an automatic bid.

The rule that you are thinking of is that a team from a non-AQ conference gets an automatic bid if:

1. It finishes in the top 16.
2. It won its conference.
3. It is the highest ranked non-AQ team to achieve the previous two conditions.

Any chance we'll see Texas vs. Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl? Cotton Bowl gets 3rd or 4th pick of SEC teams and 2nd pick of Big 12 teams. Which really means it gets the 2nd non BCS SEC team and the 1st non BCS Big 12 team. I think there's a chance those teams could be TA&M and UT.

I think UT and A&M both getting invites is about a 99% lock. The publicity factor is just way too large to ignore.

It would still be a possibility for UT to throw a bitch-fit and turn down the invite, though, since they swore they'd never play A&M again or something like that.

I paid $8.95 and the info there says that this was basically the case. FSU practice was started right after the Georgia game. Almost backfired horribly on us, though.

I would trash you for it but I know Jimbo would have done the same thing if we played Murray St and Savannah St the last two weeks instead of the first two weeks. He was probably doing it for practices leading up to the Clemson game.

All the fair weather UGA fans have been coming out of the woodwork this past weekend. Living in Georgia is not good time right now.

I want to see UF vs Oregon in the Sugar Bowl.

This would be an awesome match up, but Eugene isn't terribly close to New Orleans.

Better than an Oklahoma rematch, anyway.

This would be a hell of a good game, I think. It'll be over real quick, considering how much both teams run the ball. I bet they get it done in just under 3 hours, even with the extra TV breaks that come with the big bowls.

I understand why that sucks, but why should losing to CG help you? At that point, they are just comparing the resumes of UF and UGA, and most would consider UF's to be better even though UGA has the head to head victory. That isn't a new concept (I remember OU jumped Texas in 2008). You really have to think of it as UF and UGA tied, and the SEC tie breaker favored UGA for the SECCG. For a BCS bowl, a different tie breaker is used, and that one favors UF (polls, overall SOS, etc).

I don't really consider that UGA is getting punished for playing the CG. If UGA's resume was better, they'd be going to a BCS bowl over UF.

I'm not talking about UGA here, because I'm not assuming that Bama is going to win Saturday. I'm just speaking in general terms. We have a #2 vs #3 team this week. One of those two will not be in a BCS game after Saturday, most likely.

That's not a good scenario, either. Back in the 90s when the SEC West was "weak", Florida would usually play for the SECCG against a lesser LSU/Arkansas/Bama team. Tennessee would be right behind us and deserve a better bowl than a lower ranked West team.

Basically, playoffs. 16 team.

I understand that you don't want to have a lower ranked winner of the West, or East, go to a BCS game over a much better team that didn't make the championship game due to their division being better. Which is why rankings would come into play.

And yeah, playoffs would fix a lot of this, though 16 teams is way too much.

If Texas and another team (I forget who) loses, then it may be Florida vs. Kent State in the Sugar. Talk about a sexy match-up!

Kent State vs. Oklahoma in the Fiesta has a nice ring to it!

Let's put Oregon and Florida in the Sugar Bowl and make everyone else happy.

Aaron Murray is uncharacteristically not talking to the media at all this week. I'd say there's a good chance he wants to focus on watching all of the film he can and doesn't want to answer the same question all week regarding whether he can win "the big game."

It's very possible that Murray, sensing the impending storyline, just didn't want to deal with another week of "can Murray play well in a big game?" Or he has some important final exams. Who knows.

"I don't think it had anything to do with the media," said senior linebacker Christian Robinson, who is one of Murray's housemates. "Just him personally, I don't think he's trying to send a message. I just think he's just so dedicated to this team. He wasn't at the house yesterday, he was studying film."

Except we did it for three weeks, including Missouri. It obviously paid off for us, but it was dumb to overlook Missouri. They gave Georgia fits until late in the game.

Ahhh, I figured the poor play against Mizzou had more to do with y'all being on a hangover from the UGA loss.

And I wouldn't be surprised if Jimbo snuck a day of UF practice during the week we were prepping for Maryland.

You did have a full season of cupcakes (other than Clemson and that NC State juggernaut) that you could have been using as Florida practice.

I'd say that was also a factor, hopefully just a small one. Plus just not being able to summon the energy to hate Missou and the two cupcakes.

Latest Update from Crazy Rutgers Fans:

People can't understand why NC State fired Tom O'Brien.

On that note, it makes me think the Rutgers job should be pretty attractive come the next coaching carousel go-around.

School has great practice facilities, fan base has low expectations (See: Thinking Tom O'Brien did a good job at NC State), great recruiting grounds, great location (take recruits to NYC) and conference won't hinder your ability to recruit.

Ayup pretty much the only thing holding Rutgers back in landing a stud coach was the budget, which was instantly solved, thanks BTN.

I still can't understand, three years later, why O'Brien left BC for NC State.

It's been six years, and I think he was forced out.

O'Brien had exactly 1 road victory against a division team in his tenure at NC State. He was 11-19 overall against Atlantic Division teams.

Also, NC State has wanted to seriously compete in football for a long time now. See: hiring Amato from FSU.

Edit: that 1 road division win was against Maryland, this year, late in the season when they were playing a janitor at QB.

But Flood is the next Greg-Schiano-greatest-coach-in-Rutgers-history.

And he lost to UCF at home. Can't survive in those conditions.

Here's the thing. Dan Hawkins fucked the Buffaloes.

And should Ashy Larry be upset? Yes. No one can win with freshman.

Also, the CU President is horrible. I hate him so.

Sweet! The Boz hasn't died of a steroid-induced heart attack yet. They look related.

Listening to the Manziel presser...50% of the questions are along the lines of "when you create a player in NCAA, what do you make them look like?"

Wish I was kidding.

I don't see Mack Brown going anywhere this season.

There is no patience anymore at big schools. The big money donors are willing to pay for buyouts and big contracts, but they expect quick turnarounds and wins.

Not at all the same, but Missouri seems to have a lot of buyers remorse on joining the SEC. They think if they would have been more patient they could have got that Big 10 invite. Pinkel being questioned but it's not an attractive job

Kent State - Georgia Tech Orange Bowl. Believe.

Instead of $4.50 a ticket, they'll throw in a hot dog and drink with the $4.50 ticket. It's the Georgia Tech way!

I don't know if it was posted, but the total buyout that Auburn has to pay for the coaching staff that got the axe is $11 million.

Yeah, I posted it. But think, not only that $11 million, but think of how much they'll pay the next coaching staff.

I'd think somewhere around $2-5 million for the head coach, assistants totalling about the same. Not unreasonable to think this will cost them $20 million.
