College Football Week 14 - Conference Championship Games and Pseudo Championships

Aided by beating a #15 ranked Rutgers squad when Nova Teel'd all over himself, Kent State could win a BCS berth this weekend... and coupled with a Rutgers win this Thursday, Rutgers could lucksack their way into the Sugar Bowl.

Gary Nova, you beautiful genius you. Intentionally throwing all those interceptions to boost Kent State in the rankings and earn a Sugar Bowl berth.

If we win the ACC championship there is a good chance we play Kent State in a BCS game. If we lose we will probably play USC in the Sun Bowl. How stupid does that sound?

If you lose you won't play in a bowl at all. There are no more open slots, and that's the only way a 6-7 team will get in going forward.

... got to preemptively send in that waiver.

The NCAA changed their eligibility rules after last year, and now include a provision for 6-7 teams that lost a CCG. They can only get in if there are open slots, and after any 6-6 teams that played 2 I-AA teams.

Ga Tech can apply for a waiver, but since there's a solution in place for their position now I doubt they'll get it.

The ACC has some bowl obligations and there aren't very many bowl eligible teams in the conference this season. I think GT will be ok.

Didn't realize they closed that up so quick.

Oregon is pretty much a lock for the Fiesta Bowl. They have the 2nd At-large pick after the Sugar Bowl takes Florida (to replace the SEC champ going to the MNC bowl), and this is who will most likely be available for the Fiesta to take:
Oregon
Oklahoma (or KSU if Texas wins)
Clemson
Kent State
Rutgers (or Big East BCS AQ)

There's no way the Fiesta will take Kent State or the Big East champ. There's no way they'll take another Big 12 team, so that really only leaves Oregon or Clemson. Oregon is a much better geographical fit than Clemson, so It will almost assuredly be Oregon in the Fiesta to face either Kansas State or Oklahoma.

Chizik will make $50K a week for the next 3 years to not coach?

Dang.

O'Brien had exactly 1 road victory against a division team in his tenure at NC State. He was 11-19 overall against Atlantic Division teams.

Also, NC State has wanted to seriously compete in football for a long time now. See: hiring Amato from FSU.

Edit: that 1 road division win was against Maryland, this year, late in the season when they were playing a janitor at QB.

This is the Rutgers booster flock.

These guys have no standards. They'll support coaches who go 4-7/5-6.

Right, but it's based on open slots in general, not open slots for your conference's bowls.

The bowl(s) will likely be lobbying for the waiver, but I don't know how much effect that'll have.

It still sucks tho, cause if Miami didn't put themselves on bowl ban, and if UNC wasn't bowl banned, they wouldn't be going to the CCG, and then there would be no problem with them going to a bowl game.

I dunno. The "We were so bad in the regular season that we shouldn't even be in the CCG. Please let us go to a bowl" argument just doesn't move me.

True, although it's just a more exaggerated version of the SEC CCG issue Saban complained about. Win and you go to a BCS bowl, lose and you stay home.

Except we did it for three weeks, including Missouri. It obviously paid off for us, but it was dumb to overlook Missouri. They gave Georgia fits until late in the game.

If there's anything I've learned from this season, it's to not overlook any team. Whether it be Savannah State or Florida. It typically results in failure.

I might feel bad for UGA or BAMA if they had played anyone good from the other division. The winner of the SEC CCG will end up going 2-1 against top 10 teams, compare that to Florida going 3-1 against top 10 teams and 4-1 against top 13 teams. Florida's resume is just so much stronger than either BAMA's or UGA's that it's hard for me to gather any sympathy to the loser's cause.

Any chance we'll see Texas vs. Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl? Cotton Bowl gets 3rd or 4th pick of SEC teams and 2nd pick of Big 12 teams. Which really means it gets the 2nd non BCS SEC team and the 1st non BCS Big 12 team. I think there's a chance those teams could be TA&M and UT.

I'd say chances are good, though it depends on OU. There is a section of A&M fans that think we're a lock for Capital One (hot team, maybe Heisman), but the cooler heads think they'll go with an east team that they know will travel. Cotton is disliked because we've all been to Dallas by now, and wanting to stay disconnected from the Big 12.

A Texas matchup might be nice (so long as we crush them), but I think OU is the first team out if Kent State makes the BCS. That might be a fun game.

Sweet! The Boz hasn't died of a steroid-induced heart attack yet. They look related.

Proof that I am fat*: that is clearly an Olive Garden they are waiting outside of, hahaha...

jk

Case McCoy will get the start vs. K-State, but the real news is that our punter Alex King is now our 3rd string QB. I can imagine Mack Brown just filling out the depth chart with no one to put at 3rd string, so in a moment of frustration he said to himself they all suck so to hell with everything it I'll pencil in the punter!

Here's the thing. Dan Hawkins fucked the Buffaloes.

And should Ashy Larry be upset? Yes. No one can win with freshman.

Also, the CU President is horrible. I hate him so.

Why did Hawkins fail so miserably at CU? He had great success at Boise State, built them up and everything, I thought he would do well at CU.

Anyone involved with the name "Auburn" is getting Fired.

Jeffrey Lee of AuburnSports.com (Auburn's Rivals Portal) is gone.

He was the scourge of Anti-Alabama Internet rumors, Operation Red Dog, and other attempts of to be Danny Sheridan's protege.

Is it just me or does it look like they're flipping each other off and not the camera? At that angle maybe even some random 3rd and 4th parties that are off camera?
My guess is that the pic was from some other event and Boz waited until after the game to post it on Twitter.

OU "legends" are classy that way.

Didn't Lee own that site? Who fired him?

Fun fact: most famouse nfl player that went to kent st?

Even funner fact: he's not famous at kent st for football, but for basketball!

Cody Hawkins for starters

And yeah, playoffs would fix a lot of this, though 16 teams is way too much.

Please, it's not like we're asking people who risk their physical health and don't get paid anything
officially
to play an additional 30% of a season so we can determine a True Champion™.

I've reached new lows in thread making.

Meh, that's two teams out of over 100 who would play 3 extra games. They could always get rid of one exhibition game and one conference game if they actually cared about players' health
but they won't because money.
