Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

Why no mention of Far Cry 3 for GOTY?

Probably Jeff will be the only one to play it in time.

While The Walking Dead will be discussed in the Best Story category and perhaps in the GotY category, I do not think it will win the latter. I believe the duel will be between XCOM and Journey. Jeff is most certainly siding with XCOM, so is Ryan. Brad will fight for Journey, as well as Patrick (maybe). I don't know where Vinny stands.

I believe XCOM will win Giant Bomb's GotY.

Prety sure Patrick and Vinny will both favor TWD over Journey.

I think the only one who possibly won't really care for TWD is Jeff, because A. Zombies and B. not much focus on gameplay. Then again Jeff and Ryan's opinions generally tend to dominate the discussions.

The most interesting GOTY stuff is generally the more unusual categories anyway.

Brad is playing it for review so no...Jeff will not be the only one.

Ryan loved The Walking Dead. I think he would be down with either it or XCOM

Kinda sad Borderlands 2 is being overlooked in this thread, as well as probably on GB :'(

The DLC is letting it down a bit, though.

Hey, it's my personal GOTY, but both Jeff and Brad has expressed the opinion that they know that it's a solid game but it didn't hook them in the same way. They felt it was too much of a rehash of Borderlands 1.

And that sums up perfectly how i feel about bl2: great game but i cant shake the feeling that i've been there, done that. I'm not sure it warrants getting any rewards, really.

I love Borderlands 2, but as I said in the OT, if this was 10 years ago it would have been an expansion pack - not a full-priced sequel.

Really hope they do something crazy with BorderWorlds (just not MMO crazy...).

I think GOTY should be a fight between XCOM and The Walking Dead, both games have probably altered the landscape in terms of what games will get made and what people will buy.

But for me The Walking Dead wins hands down because XCOM feels like a throwback experience (though a great one that I want to see more of) while TWD honestly felt like something that's never been accomplished before.

I'm interested to play Far Cry 3 though, sounds like it's really good.

I like to think Brad made an off-hand comment about some anime looking potentially interesting one day in the office and being haunted by it ever since.

edit: hellsing's got it

Ugh, was just reading Kotaku's really good compilation of yesterday's #1reasonwhy tweets and what do I see half way though? Leigh Alexander taking the opportunity to co-opt the discussion into a multi-tweet rant about her treatment following that Bombcast.

Apparently, if she were a guy her performance would have been "badass, cool and hilarious" instead of "a disrespectful, loudmouthed bitch".

A lot of the vitriol directed towards her was disgusting and the absolute worst of the GB community, but how can she really think a guy doing the same thing would be well received?

Because she is a delusional idiot hiding behind the fact that she has a vagina. She thinks that gives her the right to say stupid shit and get away with it because when you criticize her, you are actually hating on women.

Clearly if it was a drunk guy shouting "fuck Boston" for 5 minutes in a very confrontational way, we would still be high-fiving him for his awesomeness. Even people from Boston would find him hilarious, just because he has a penis.

SPOILER Drunk obnoxious people are drunk and obnoxious regardless of gender. You can be drunk and funny. She wasn't. Its ok, we have all been drunk A-holes a time or two. It happens to the best of us. But apologize, and move on.

People like her are why too many people dismiss real sexism. They see accusations and assume it's some talentless nutjob like her.

I don't think there should be a single Game of the Year game, eschew that for [genre/catagory] Game of the Year. Some games just can't really be compared to one another or are too different to be in contention for one slot. They can even make up categories like "Game that felt like the biggest dickslap in the face (for better or for worst)". Gotta keep that Giantbomb immaturity and crassness.

So Leigh Alexander feels that men are allowed to be drunk and obnoxious but women aren't...and this stems from the fact that her drunken behavior with the Bomb crew was not appreciated? Was there any overt indication that their feelings were based on her gender rather than her behavior? Or is she just jumping to conclusions?

Whenever I think of Leigh on that E3 Bombcast, all I can think of is: $700 million dollar advertising budget. I think it was a Call of Duty game.

This had very little to do with gender. Other females been on GB streams before and they've been well-received. It's because she was behaving brazenly irritating and constantly tripped over herself in an effort to try to make points which weren't exactly valid (ex: 775 million). To be somewhat fair, she didn't seem very lucid, but... her overall behaviour during the stream and after the stream on twitter did not reflect well on her at all.

My overall respect for her, speaking as a female, plummeted after that. Compromise, apologize, and move the fuck on instead of heaping on this dramarama.

She knows perfectly well that isn't true but the argument she's making is the only thing she has other than admitting the truth. She's some kind of narcissistic freakshow.

Sloppy, loudmouthed, obnoxious drunks suck, regardless of gender. Deal with it. Pachter was halfway down that road during this year's E3 bombcast, as a matter of fact. His half slurred, weepy tirades about NeoGAF were pretty sad.

Re: Sexism

If all you got from the incident was "They hate me because I'm a girl", you are absolutely pathetic.

Sincerely,
Ventilaator

Oh, are we ganging up on Leigh Alexander again? Probably the most unpleasant (and sexist) part of the Giantbomb thread-cycle.

People really continually hate and harass her, just because she was drunk one time (on a stream where plenty of other drunk people were obnoxious as well). It's not like the GiantBomb crew acted all to classy in that stream, making fun of her as soon as she turned her back really isn't something they should be proud of.

If any of you actually bothered to read Leigh Alexanders work, you'd see that she actually does write insightful articles and columns: She is a great gaming journalist.

Why does she have to apologize? Why does this come up constantly in the GiantBomb community? Get over it, she didn't harm you in any way.

Something funny about the whole Radec thing in Sony Smash Quick Look then calling Faith a memorable character.

It was more than once. And there's also plenty of articles with her being outright wrong, but I guess if anyone writes anything long enough, someone out there will be impressed by it regardless of its content.

The response/harassment directed towards her afterwards was absolutely gender based and filled with some really nasty misogyny. It was inexcusable.

But I really take issue with the assumption that her actions would have been well received had she been male. That's off-the-charts delusion.
