THQ Humble Bundle is up (THQ needs your money lol)

And now Steam as DRM is a problem?

Always has been for some of us.

If purchasing a bundle made him feel like a hypocrite, why didn't he just allocate all of the funds to Child's Play or to HIB itself?

Because it's still "money gone into the bundle", which supports this sort of thing. If it bothers him enough to write the article, I can see why putting any money into it would make him feel like a hypocrite.

They should have launched this on a spin off site as the Odious Corporate Bundle, just to avoid all the whining about betrayal and tarnished reputations.

THQ probably couldn't afford the web hosting on their own

That or THQfuneralpyrebundle.com was already taken.
New Kickstarter from THQ: Help us afford a bundle website!

Tainting the Humble Bundle "brand" forever? Oh god, get a grip....
Explain to me how this isn't selling out. It's Windows only, Steam only (as in, not DRM-free) and a major publisher that loves to milk its customers for shitty DLC (fuck this shit).

I hope they survive the poor state they're in but this is pathetic, a big publisher like THQ has hundreds of other avenues to get money that don't compromise the ideals of something that's inherently indie, and doesn't take the spot of maybe an indie developer that actually needs the money for living, not for maintaining a huge corporation. Equal blame goes to the HIB guys for agreeing to do this, of course.

Then don't buy it.

Jesus Christ, the entitlement when it comes to video games is astounding. I bet if THQ had done their own bundle on THQ.com people would've bitched that they were trying to cash in on the Humble Bundle craze and they weren't really going to give money to charity. Here, THQ has partnered with a neutral third party to offer people a bundle of six great games and all you have to do to get them is pay $1.00 which can go directly to charity so THQ gets nothing. Just think about that for a second THQ is deep in the hole and has been trying to put on a front that everything was okay and they'd work passed it. Now, as they desperately search for a buyer or backer to dig them out they've made a bundle where they give some of their best games for NOTHING guaranteed in return. The complaint about this is absurd! Absolutely fucking absurd.

And now Steam as DRM is a problem? Man, it's like people are looking for any reason to hate this.
I yearn for the day "entitlement" becomes a banned word.

I don't know what people would've said about THQ doing their own bundle because that hasn't happened, but if they did I'd call them for the idiots they are, just when people complained about EA's Indie Bundle on Steam. This isn't the same, HIB means something.

Explain to me how this isn't selling out.

I think they're banking on the fact that most customers don't care about the principle of the matter, and that the rest of us will forgive them until they pull another DRM-filled, single-platform bundle.

So it's a "misstep", not a "selling out". Or something. I don't personally agree with it either.

By the way, I think it's terrible that THQ is doing a Humble Bundle. It's not DRM-free, it's not indie, THQ could just do their own bundle without tainting the Humble Bundle "brand" forever. It was a mistake by both parties, even if no one really wants THQ to go bankrupt.

$700,000+ since it started. No one cares. Really, I've never read anything more ridiculous. Go make a Bundle company and sell Indie games. Humble Bundle is successful not only from Indie games but how they're presented and how the site is marketed. They clearly know what they're doing. LOL @ the articles Humble Bundle brand may be tarnished. Humble Bundle is where the dollars are. By partnering with THQ they're only enhancing the value of the Humble Bundle brand.

I wonder how many people have ever actually cared that the games were DRM-free before when the vast majority of people probably went right ahead and got the games via redeeming the Steam key they were given.

So it's a misstep because it doesn't cater to what you want?

Not just something you might not be interested in, but a misstep?

I think part of having it be Steam only is to offset bandwidth to Steam instead of thousands of people clogging their own servers.

I'M NEVER TRADING MY TF2 HATS THAT I FARM FROM MY MULTIPLE STEAM ACCOUNTS FOR MULTIPLE ONE DOLLAR BUNDLES FROM HUMBLEBUNDLE.COM EVER AGAIN! :(

What a bunch of whiners some of the indie guys and uugh game journalism..

My issue with some of the criticism, at least from Kuchera in his piece and his Twitter, is his belief that having a THQ HIB precludes future DRM-free multi-platform indie-developed titles that have typically gone up on those bundles. It's an extreme, as if things cannot be on a case-by-case basis or mutually exclusive. Plus, you can decide where the money goes to, or just not buy at all.

Jesus Christ, between all the WiiU bullshit and now these angry Indie supporters I'm starting to doubt that anyone on this forum has fun playing video games anymore. It's a great deal, buy the bundle and don't fucking stiff THQ.

Already have Saints Row, decied to gamble on Company of Heros... won't have time to play it until Christmas though.

Just really sad that THQ has to do this...

Wouldn't giving to THQ just help pay their creditors and potentially stockholders at this point? I don't see this getting them solvent and enabling them to keep producing games

I agree, it's pathetic whats happening lately in Neogaf.
I have every game but I will buy 2 packs to gift and support THQ (Volition, Relic and Vigil are great studios and Company of Heroes 2 is my most anticipated game)

Did you read the Penny-Arcade Report article?

It's how Ben Kuchera termed it. I did use the "or something" afterward, as I don't know what to call it.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm not getting it.

I'd double my payment if they add the latest Warhammer RTS an. guerrilla.

Normally in the humble bundle they add another title or so down the line to squeeze out some extra sales.

Hope they do it for this.

I would play the hell out of a literal Red Faction Gorilla game.
Space Ape-hole?

Edit: Keep it civil, people, I'm not accusing anyone who buys it of being a war criminal or anything.

Yeah, I can agree to that wording.

People don't care about a lot of shit and doesn't mean it's alright. It's not hard to understand why someone would like this or actually think of it as a good thing for helping THQ, but I don't want the Call of Duty Bundle (I know, it's a stretch, but if the game's industry is one thing is shameless) to replace an actual indie bundle.

"Humble Bundle is where the dollars are." is a new thing, and it's exactly what I mean with tainting its name. Now we talk about the Bundle like "it's all business".

I think part of having it be Steam only is to offset bandwidth to Steam instead of thousands of people clogging their own servers.
Yeah, that actually makes sense. I doubt any big publisher would agree to selling their games DRM-free, I mean, if they did, their games would maybe be on GOG, right?

Reddit usually decides how successful these bundles are and they're loving it. Lots of love for the value you get and they're also expressing sympathy for THQ's situation. I wonder if this bundle will break the previous money record.
