THQ Humble Bundle is up (THQ needs your money lol)

So it's creeping up on $1,000,000 already. Has any bundle hit 1 million that quickly?

Huh, rare to sign in.

Anyways, I'd wonder about the growth from an economics perspective. Is this bundle front-loading buyers (who are buying it for cheap), and will it basically flatten out as the 2 weeks count down?

Because that's kind of what I'm expecting.

A co-worker linked me to this today and I've been wanting to give saints 3 a go it just looks so ridiculously crazy. I'm kinda embarrassed that I didn't even know what a 'humble bundle' was until earlier today. I'm so far out of the gaming scene now.

I'll certainly keep a eye out for future humble bundles feels good getting a game while also giving to a worthy charity.

“We’re hopefully going to raise a huge amount of money for charity and expose a ton of new customers to the Humble Bundle model. We are debuting more games for Mac and Linux (and Android—and even had an eBook digital debut this year!) and this will just help us continue to do so,” Graham said. “We are humbly hopeful that our customers will see this as a good thing instead of a permanent departure from what we have done and will continue to do.”
Surprise, surprise. It is working.

It's an escape clause that allows people in this thread not to debate what the HIB has actually always meant.

I'm sure someone had the same argument when Amazon started offering more than just books.

I'm amazed by the number of first timers to this bundle. Some of these people even game primarily on the PC!

I hope that this bundle will break all records, and then HIB 7 comes along a few weeks later, has super awesome DRM free indie games, still manages to do 3m+ and everyone is happy.

Because this is what will happen. This bundle will do nothing (not even change THQs future lol), except make more money for charity and give everyone awesome games.

This thread is fun.

Not that I know of, no.

Those may be worth their own debate (I have enough on my plate having half of GAF hating me now lol), but clearly you can see difference I see between Bastion and Red Faction: Armageddon?

In all previous bundles they sold games - did you complain about "going back on their morals" when they did a book bundle?

Major publishers are now struggling and indies seem to be doing much better now than they were 5 years ago.

And then Indies get onto Steam and other major distribution platforms and that's fine.

But now you have to have a membership card to be sold in a Humble Bundle? Only Indies can do that?

Funny how those who once wanted to be included in everything now want to do the excluding themselves.

So if they've never stated that they were indie only, then why does it matter if they have a THQ or any other publisher/dev bundle?
Can you fault me for calling this the Humble Indie Bundle without thinking it twice prior to this day? Well, that's no more, like I said, the HIB was a nice thing that promoted indie ideals like DRM-free games, affordable prizes, the non-persecution of pirates, porting for neglected platforms like Linux, etc. THQ doesn't represent that, and it feels like your favorite indie band signing to the big label. They probably never said they'd "sell out" but that doesn't make it right.

Same with EA doing their own Kickstarter or something, it's big companies known for fucking everything up, sticking their noses in every single safe haven, and what's the first thing that happens? You get a Windows-only, Steam-only bundle.

I'm not gonna be fatalist, probably next month we'll get HIB#7 and it'll be nice and cool and we'll buy Hotline: Miami's OST for 10 bucks and it'll be ok but for me it won't be the same.

OK at least now I know you're missing the point intentionally

I don't know those books (what's with all the book counterarguments lol), so I don't know what to tell you. Maybe I'd mind if they were selling Harry Potter?

I don't see how selling books is acting against their morals...

Are you a DRM Free only digital game gamer? How about physical copies of games with intrusive DRM?

I try to be. I've passed on many "must-play" games as a result, which is a bit of a shame. (Yup, haven't played Portal. Still bothers me sometimes!) But I prefer to stand by the principle of DRM-free, even if it costs me some fun experiences.

As, after all, so much of the thread likes to point out, they're only games.

(I think the last physical PC game I bought was The Last Remnant, and then I found out it GWFL. I still haven't put the disc into my computer as a result, and probably never will...)

Considering HB's direct comments made by them about their intent and outlook regarding this bundle, I can't imagine where you're getting these grand and noble ideals from.

But it's not.

It's Stamworks :V

Great bundle. All money to THQ.
Did the same thing here, and basically paid $10 for a CoH expansion pack and the soundtracks since I own all of the other games there already through other means.

I feel bad for paying only $10, but I basically wanted it for the expansion pack and like 2 of the soundtracks. I wish I could leave a little note on my purchase that says that because I feel like a jerk, but my computer probably cannot even run Saints Row 3 either and just bought it for $25 last weekend.

Edit: Added another $10 after making my post. I feel terrible and want THQ to stay alive! Really, only wanted it for an expansion pack and a couple of the soundtracks.

Any German already tried to redeem the key? Do we get the censored versions of Saints Row and Company of Heroes?

Edit: Ah, fuck you Germany and your stupid "youth protection". There is an extra key for the German version of Saints Row ...

But it's not.

Um...I'm not inclined to go fishing through my collection, (because hell if I know which storage bin it's in) but I could've sworn it has the Games for Windows logo on it. Well, thanks for the correction then...

But I believe that Steamworks, in its current form, didn't exist when I bought it...

COH is uncensored
SR3 key doesn't activate, since it is region-locked. You can contact support and get a key for the German (censored) version, or try your luck with activating it through a VPN.

Feel really bad for THQ. I seriously want them to survive. Also, Turtle Rock Studios donating over $1000 to in-turn fund their own game? Funny. And Sad. But really cool to see the support.

edit:

That said, I didn't buy into this but I did pay a full $60 for Darksiders II Wii U, so I did my part!

You're probably mistaking Games for Windows with Games for Windows Live. They're not the same. But I'm 100% certain that it's Steam-redeemable: Steam Retail / Digital CD Keys. Search for The Last Remnant.

Some of you guys realise that you can give a little more then 1 buck for a company that you like instead of laughing at people that will lose their jobs right...

Bought. I've always been interested in trying SR3 and Darksiders. Now I can...whenever I get around to actually playing them

It does have the Games for Windows logo on it.
It does not have the Game for Windows Live logo on it.

Therefore it probably supports the 360 controller out of the box, and that's about all that you can infer from that logo.
