The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Jeff: "what are we going to name the farm?"
Vinny: "eerrr... Charlie"

Sometimes I wonder how close to being named "Charlie" Vinny's kid came to.

Funky Barn doesn't seem that bad, except the upper level animals are just reskinned lower level animals. It's coming to PC, isn't it? 5 bucks gooooo

Miasmata looks way more interesting than I initially gave it credit for. The triangulation mapping stuff is just an awesome idea -- exploration in open-world games sometimes feels pointless because there's so much empty space, but here it actually seems meaningful because of how hard it is to get around without discovering new landmarks. As long as that system doesn't get too tedious, it seems incredibly cool. It's kind of weird how rarely games do something different with their map systems.

I fully appreciate that I<3Ms is a proposed plan, as opposed to a promise, but I'm nevertheless a little pooped that we didn't get any Planetside 2 content this week. I hope it's still on the cards for next week.

That last load screen/minigame, from the end of a match to the main goddamn menu, was a full minute long (32:15 to 33:15). What the fuck.

I think it's more cinematic this way!

Who doesn't like a bit more time to hone those goal shooting skills?

(Nintendo really needs to allow developers to cache to disk as well as enable an "install to drive" option)

I've given up hope from Jeff's 2 minute talk about it on the bombcast.

Yeah, I mean I've heard that the loads are long on that thing, but to sit there doing nothing for that long just to go back to the menu? Ridiculous.

That wasn't a load screen although I can see why they thought it was.

When you go back out from a match, it puts you back in the arena until you hit start (or the equivalent).

Just re-watched that section: You seem to be right, as a pop-up they both apparently didn't notice (GiantBomb dudes missing on-screen text: Something that never happens!) prompts them to press the + (Start) button to return to the main menu.

Not being able to move saves between consoles via USB? Wow, just wow. Why anyone would want this backwards ass console at this point in time I have no idea.

Considering the fact that you can't use your profile on multiple consoles, moving savegames via USB would be pretty useless anyway ;)

If you could, Nintendo has announced to implement cloud storage in 2013: That's how you would be able to move saves between consoles

That still blows my mind. Why would you purchase anything online with those stakes? Nintendo hardware is probably still the most solid out of all the three, but come on Nintendo, get with the program on this at least.

Pretty sure you just press start at any point in the minigame to go back to the menu- at least thats how it works on PS3

"Man, the asari are so weird. How they can mate and reproduce with any species. What is that called?"
"Uh... sex?"

Vinny, you're great.

That's some more Mass Effect 3. Man, I remember a time when I would have justified that $15 price tag for something Mass Effect related. Those were the days.
Good thing this revolves around one of the npcs I cared the least about.

I just watched the Omega quick look, and I'm kind of surprised Brad did try to carry all the weapons.

As soon as they told me, 'recharge rate goes down the less weapons you have', you should just pick the Assault Rifle(which is always op), and i was just in perma adrenaline rush mode.

Yeah, I was thinking similarly, though didn't (and don't!) want to assume Jeff's initial experience would neuter the coverage entirely, especially as I got the impression that Drew had also given / was also giving it a shot. Practically every single write-up of the game that I've seen has mentioned the issues relating to brand new players, yet all go on to mention how much the game has to offer.

I just wanted to see Drew pilot a Reaver and get stuck into a Space Helicopter dogfight at night-time around a Tech Plant with the tracer fire of 200 hundred other players skirting his periphery.

adrenaline rush mode in 3 hurt my eyes. Main reason why i quit soldier. And the stupid missile move is pretty stupid.

Engineer is a good class? They the ones that spawn drones right?

Combat Drone is an Engineer power, yes.

I had fun playing through ME3 with an Engineer, I can only recommend it! If you want to try it out for a bit, maybe play the class in multiplayer for a round or two?

Why would anyone design something like that?! It's like the people at Nintendo responsible for these kinds of decisions have lived their life in an underground bunker, isolated from the outside world.

Ah, that makes sense. I didn't catch the prompt either that time (or on the rewatch to time it), though I did see the one in the shooting practice thingy before the match started, so I assumed it wasn't there. A minute didn't seem out of line with something like the Funky Barn initial load, either.

Miasmata sounded kind of boring, and the game looks pretty boring... but I think I want to buy it. The atmosphere was just really great, and the map system seemed really different. I'm keeping my eye on it for sure.

Oh, Funky Barn.

Fifa load times... man.
