I'm not really sure what people are expecting out of Far Cry 3. The characters are clearly supposed to be assholes, it doesn't need to do much more than that to be commentary.

I personally wasn't expecting anything at all. I wasn't going to even buy it, but then I saw that shark punching GIF and then I had to get it. What I don't understand is why make an boring unlikable protagonist when the writing team is clearly capable of making interesting characters. I'm fine with the idea of an unlikable main character, but one who is uninteresting at the same time I have little tolerance for even if it is to get a point across about trust fund kids. I'd rather have had a silent protagonist and I hate those then have the character I have now.

Think about it, all that player choice within the amount of time while still keeping consistent and it makes more sense why Persona games are popular.

I'm playing through it right now for the first time (though I've seen some of the Endurance Run so I have a headstart of sorts) and the game still manages to be thoroughly entertaining because I can see the social links that Jeff and Vinny missed. The first S. Link I maxed was the Soccer Club one though lol, my guys are strong enough.

So a couple of my good friends have been plugging away for a while building an iPhone trivia game based on Giant Bomb's API, and it's finally been released on the app store. Pulls stuff like random concepts, characters and screenshots for clues and allows you to create custom libraries based on their database. Dave had mentioned it a bit around PAX time, not sure if anyone remembers.

Anyways it's pretty fun and cheap and I want to give them a plug, so check it out!

Videogames! The Videogame Trivia Videogame

Why are they allowed to charge money for this? Isn't that against the API rules or something? I saw that Dave plugged it on twitter, so he must be OK with it. I just though they had said a while back that the API can't be used for commercial purposes.

They probably asked for permission. The API rules are pretty lenient, if a bit outdated.

Christ on the cross, this is a 99 hour series? I may just look for "Best Of" videos.
Not to put you off because it's a really good series you should watch, but it's actually longer than that. There are quite a few times when they get game overs and that time isn't counted on the game clock.

I watched it last spring and at first I had the same reaction as you. Believe me it gets much better as it goes on. You get sucked in to the story. Though I fastforwarded some of the later dungeons.

Just watch it all, you'll thank us later.

Funny thing about those dungeon episodes - they were great if you watched the ER shortly after they were uploaded, as Jeff and Vinny basically treated them like mini-Bombcasts, discussing news/releases/etc.

But yeah, I can imagine those parts don't age particularly well.

I've been plugging away at the Persona 4 ER videos a lot more recently and I have to ask. Do they ever get educated on the game mechanics? I've played a handful of SMT games to know how important it is to focus on having the right personas to balance elemental weaknesses and how powerful the stat abilities (lowering attack, etc) are in these games. I just watched an episode with a game over and it's frustrating as they don't even appear like they try to understand. Not only that, but they ignore most the gear, never look at accessories, and generally just goof off. Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying the humor and conversations but I really hope there's a point where they also play more intelligently.

They do. Not right away, but they do.

Yeah, eventually they start paying more attention to strengths and weaknesses. For the most part, they're guys who don't normally play JRPGs.

Far Cry 3 has surpassed Xcom as my personal GoTY. And a late entry too! Who would hve thunk? It's like the 30th entry of the Royal Rumble winning it all.

I listened to more of the Persona 4 ER as background noise at work than I actually watched. I think the best of videos are great but I think if you have the time, watching the whole thing is worth your while even if your just listening to the dungeon sections while doing other things. I guess it was easier to listen to an episode a day while it was running than it is to commit to jumping into a 100 hour series .

Should be working, instead I'm procrastinating and making gifs. For some reason I found this jar time line oddly hilarious.

He'd also miss when they get Hama'd, but both of those are on the Best Of P4 Endurance Run series on youtube so he could just watch them there after he finishes the actual ER.

I feel like stuff like the hama moment looses all it's context if you haven't sit through the 1 hour of grinding that happened before it.

Edit: Also, the greatest disappointment of the endurance run is that they never fused the giant penis wagon persona.

Man, remember the Season 1 sets? They looked like a random basement with track lighting, and the writers built up that whole "biggest gaming database" motivation plot that just faded into the background by Season 2.

I hope that the natural endgame of this is to edit out a sitcom using the footage we already have.

Or make it the basis of goty.

Laughed at this part too. My girlfriend watches all these Youtube videos where the person cuts every 10 seconds. I always comment about how it's so annoying and I don't know why they do it, I am so use to Giantbomb's video way cause it's about the only online video series I watch. I guess it does come down to experience and skill being able to sit down for 2 hours straight and not sound like an idiot.

Well, as dumb as it sounds, it is basically skyrim with guns, or skyrim with better gameplay, from what I've seen. So no surprises there

Holy shit, that's amazing. Bandido Ryan looks like a scene straight out of an 80s/90s sitcom.

Haha. Thank you. Some people fit perfectly into it -- when I put the clip of Jeff in place I went "AHA YES" but finding something right for Patrick was awful. I went through a ton of video for everyone, but Patrick's was just an act of desperation, and then every time I hit the preview button I laughed, so I had to keep it. I'm glad he (and everyone else) seems to like it.

it would be humorous if you made another version where various Patrick clips interrupted everyone else's clips

also while i'm here

For you people predicting Brad's GOTY

on Far Cry 3

XCOM should win, but Brad has so much filibuster power for GOTY sessions that it seems like his vote counts for three or four others. So if he ends up digging Far Cry, it'll probably win.

Patrick needs to dig his heels in on behalf of ZombiU since he'll probably be the only one to have played it. It is scary. as. hell. It might not be GoTY next to Far Cry 3 or Sleeping Dogs but it is right up there. I think it's better than XCOM.

All right... Persona 4 Endurance Run attempt number 4.... I completly lost interest after only a couple of episodes on all the previous attempts.

Why doesn't Drew get special guest status?

Yeah I was hopping for a "And" or "With ... in the role of" at the end lol.

BTW, a bit OT but I always wondered. Is there some kind of rules about those "And" and "With" in the tv/movie credits? I never understood why they were there or if there was a pattern.

Doubt there's a hard-or-fast rule but on opening credits a "with" is usually followed by a supporting big name. E.g.: "with Chevy Chase and Ken Jeong" for Community, given those are the most well-known actors on the show yet neither are the main character.

Morgan Freeman gets similar treatment on the TDK/TDKR posters, also.
