Looking at imdb, North had 17 appearances this year, while Baker had 24. But Baker has more "additional voices" while North has more protagonists (most notably AC and Spec Ops).

"Additional voices" is just as bad as playing a main character. That just means a tenth of all the disposable NPCs in the game are Kanji or Drake, meaning they always repeat way more dialogue than had Baker or North been an important character.

I still have this feeling that Brad would block an X-COM GOTY call.

Oh god. I just imagined him saying that the game is too buggy to be GOTY and me facepalming a dent in my head because Skyrim happened last year.

...Oh wait I already did that last year when he went "The game is not technically perfect" as a knock against Saints Row 3...while defending Skyrim.

Year of the Bow is still 2012. Ignoring the appearance of the bow in the likes of The Avengers, Brave and The Hunger Games, we still have Far Cry 3, Kid Icarus, Guardians of Middle Earth, Nintendoland, Wreckateer, Assassin's Creed 3, Dishonoured, Kingdoms of Amalur, Skylanders Giants and Trine 2. And of course, Binary Domain.

Don't deny us the one true award, Jeff.

I've been saying this every year.

When someone brought up Bayonetta for best graphics, I think Jeff went "It's best graphics not most graphics" and a similiar exchange has happened with "It's best story, not most story"

So they should actually do "most graphics" and "most story" awards. Dyad would take the former I think?

Holy shit that game came out this year. I thought I came out last year. I still want to play it but oh man no is talking about this game at all

This ain't year of the crossbow.

If Hotline Miami doesn't win "best music" from every outlet this year, tables will be flipped.

I think only games with an original soundtrack should be considered, licensed music doesn't really fit such a category.

It mirror's the game. There are a few stand out tracks, but most of them weren't as memorable as in previous games. This one is excellent but there's nothing that comes close to the suicide mission song.

"An end, once and for all" is another notable ME 3 track: http://youtu.be/x5JvbD2Zc9I

All things considered, to me the perfect symbiosis of soundtrack and gameplay makes Journey stand out the most in terms of musical excellence (& it's my overall favourite game of this year).

I hope Young Bradley will not bring bullshit legitimacy arguments to the GOTY discussions this year. Greatly enjoy the 'debates' usually.

you know what music i hope doesn't win music of the year? the one that goes goes doodoododadoo that's inspired by snes classics. you know, that one

The only fighting game I remember that anyone of them enjoyed this year was Jeff and VF5 (even though I'd say TTT2 is best).

And I agree the Skyrim debate last year was weird, even though I enjoyed the heat, almost sounded like it could escalate into a bar room brawl at some spots.

Weren't the tracks all licensed though? I'd really like to see Borderlands 2 win a soundtrack award somewhere, the score was exceptional throughout the game and I would never have expected it to be.

I completely forgot about Journey. With that Walking Dead, Fez, Mark of the Ninja, Dust and Hotline Miami we might have more downloadable then retail games in the top 10 this year.

I just hope it comes down to 2 or 3 games again. The year where it got down to GOTY and everyone was just like "yeah, its Uncharted 2" made me sad (even though it obviously was Uncharted).

Edit: Maybe misremembering that.

A little less than half were licensed. Though that should hardly disqualify it even if all of them were. It's not like any of that music was showing up in other games.

Did that happen? Uncharted vs Batman was a debate, it was Mass Effect 2 that was decided immediately.

Right?

But was any of it specifically composed for Hotline Miami? I think it's pretty much a disqualifying reason, otherwise stuff like GTA's radios (Sleeping Dogs this year) and all kinds of other licensed music tracks would have to be considered as well.

A "best soundtrack of the year" category should be about original compositions, not music that was picked to be in the game.

Their best music award last year was called Best Original Music.

That pretty much settles the discussion.

Yeah I remember the batman vs Uncharted debate but I dont remember what was up against ME2. I think they did have some runner ups but I think by the time they got to GOTY everyone just went "yeah Mass Effect wins" then they talked about how awesome mass effect was.

Also I love how people are now CLEARLY just clearing out the junk from their closets and sending it to GB.

Did Ryan make an argument for Super Mario Galaxy 2 at any point during the 2010 deliberations? He did give it a 5-star review.
And it's possibly one of the greatest games of all time.
