So she was in Smallville.

Cool. Was Pete gonna smash?

Niche movie? C'mon, dm!

For the record, SR stinks. But that sequence is fantastic.

Niche - in that Sculli is the only one who is a fan of it. Everyone else knows it stinks. :p

The sequence is indeed well executed - like I said above.

But it also rings hollow and ultimately meaningless as Blader put it. Feels like Singer was showing off he could pull off a cool set peice just for the sake of it!

In comparison, the scene where magneto escapes from his plastic prison in X2 is a far more well conceived, legitimately cool and far more memorable sequence without any explosions going on.

I agree with your characterization of the plane scene. Cool, but completely unnecessary and pointless. Magneto breaking out of the prison was definitely a far better introduction, despite (or maybe because of) its simplicity.

I really don't like the tone they're going for here. It looks bleak and grim, trying so hard to be more "realistic", but this is fucking Superman. I feel this is part of what really made Superman Returns suffer too - trying too hard to try and make sense of how Superman could fit into the world today. I don't think they need to do that. Just make a big fun colorful movie about an invincible alien who comes to Earth, grows up, and does things we cannot do, making the world a safer place

Big fun movies turn out to be shit. GL, IM2, Captain American, Hulk, Etc. If anything GL ruined any chance for a lighter kid friendly WB super hero movie for a long time.

So if i had to pick between an Avengers or Dark knight approach i would personally want to try out the Dark Knight first. SR was a bomb for WB and to the fans. Let's try something different i say.

I always thought it'd be cool if Lex got his own tie-in movie, with him as a deeply flawed protagonist. Inspired by one of my favorite comics of all time...

Then in a Superman sequel he appears as the villain, and his reasons for doing what he does have been fully fleshed out.

I don't want Lex in the next movie either unless its just a small role. I want Braniac, Mr.Myzyplick, Doomsday, Maxima, Mongul, Darkseid, Metallo,Parasite, Satanus, and Hank Henshaw.

Hank Henshaw would actually be a pretty cool choice, but I get the feeling the people making these movies have no idea who Hank Henshaw even is.

I still don't know what Singer was smoking when he thought this was cool.

It was cool.

The shitting on Singer has reached astronomical heights, I'd make gifs of the awesome moments in Returns but am too lazy so here's screenshots. Movie looks AMAZING, Snyder has his work cut out when it comes to that.

I'm looking forward to Snyder's eye candy but give credit where credit is due.

That'd be great. Though I don't know about him being the sole villain. They should have him working with/manipulating another villain, like Braniac, Parasite, or Metallo.

The movie clearly has some promising fundamentals. Casting seems good, the suit looks great (IMO), no trademark Snyder stupidity, and they seem to be avoiding the pitfall of an overbearing or underboiled Daily Planet aspect. These are all very big pluses in my book.

That being said, there's nothing of genuine interest on display in this trailer (the only part I sort of liked was the antarctic takeoff). This isn't a big problem considering this is still mostly a teaser, but I can't fully hop aboard the hype train yet.

God damn, that trailer was amazing.

Man Of Steel already looks better.

People are really overestimating the quality of the photography in Returns. If there is an area where Snyder decidedly trumps Singer is visuals. Re-watch the MOS teaser to remind yourself how beautiful this movie is going to be.

The way the camera moves and use of the lens is almost Malick-like. I'm sorry but Returns really has nothing.

This trailer alone is better than Returns.

Zod has that air of superiority just in that second he gets in the trailer, dat stare.

Im super pumped now, movie looks beautiful god damn!

That scene when he falls down and spit something on the ground. Can we presume that Kryptonite was involved? Somebody gif that.

[What programs are you using for hw gif creation?]

Seriously. I don't know what people are looking at that makes them believe this movie won't be able to measure up to Returns visually.

The imagery looks amazing but I expected that from Snyder. I am liking the snippits of dialogue so far. Kevin Costner saying "...maybe" got me excited for the kind of angle they are going to take with the film. Pretty great trailer.

You know what my favorite scene in Returns is. The shot of people in downtown Metropolis where the camera pans overhead to Superman just slowly making his way over the city. I loved that so much.

Yea, that Costner line was interesting. Makes him feel much more multidimensional.

Agreed. That shot is my favorite in Returns also.

Its also my favorite shot in Spider-Man when he saves Mary Jane after the world festival.

Never forget that time Singer said in retrospect he was making Superman Returns for the Devil Wears Prada crowd.

Man, fuck that guy. Never gonna get me to believe a studio woulda greenlit that pitch, lol.

I don't doubt any of this at all.
