Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

Curious now.

My google-fu is failing me but I think 2010 GOTY fight was Mass Effect 2 vs Red Dead vs AC Brotherhood but since Jeff didnt bother playing through RDR that pretty much DQ'ed it and Brotherhood was awesome but ME2 was awesomer.

The problem is that I know Jeff means it. Another problem is that I actually have no idea if he's ever played it.

The "asshole contrarian" is one of my least favorite Jeff Gerstmann skits, to put it one way. :p Let's hope it's mostly absent from the GOTYcasts, but I already fear he's got something lined up for The Walking Dead.
I know it. It ruffles my feathers too when Jeff dismisses a game so quickly based on his quirky tastes (character action genre comes to mind). I think it's good Patrick joined the team as he seems willing to give mostly anything a shot.

I haven't played WD yet but it does have 'zombies'.

But you know, Giantbomb isn't out to be objective on every video game. They created the site to have fun with what they want to play. I don't go to them for reviews but I enjoy their entertainment and strong personalities.

Pretty sure 2010 was ME2 vs. Red Dead vs and then ME2 vs. StarCraft II but neither fight lasted very long. Brad conceded rather quick when he realized it was 3 vs. 1.

I just remember one year where there was a long fight over the Multiplatform GOTY but then when they got to overall GOTY it was over pretty quickly, since by definition they had to pick from what they'd given the individual platform awards to.

This is the biggest reason I think they fucked up going with Skyrim over Saints Row The Third. SR3 would have been a very Giant Bomb choice, Skyrim was the industry safe choice.

To be fair, it's been that way for a while. InFamous was the last non-'safe' choice. I have no problem believing they all loved Batman/Uncharted 2 the most, but that was everyone's choices in the world that year

Not even close. The story is crappy and they spend barely any time on it. The characters don't develop much through the story and there's no reason to care for any of them. And events throughout the game are super predictable. Every little bit is just so incredibly cliche and tiresome.

Except every character in Binary Domain is one dimensional?

As for the gameplay, the only good part is how the robots tear apart. You're still just fighting the same robots with the same guns through the whole game. And your movement speed really does feel sluggish - it's super annoying. But since I've never got very far into any Gears game, I can't really compare. It's a much worse third person shooter than even something like Mass Effect 2 and 3 though.

It's a bad game.
Thank you, I totally agree for all of these reasons. I would like to hear an actual argument from someone that doesn't that reads more than, "I disagree" though.

Wow, people are literally just sending GB their old shit now. They're probably going to have to stop showing it on camera soon enough.

Also, Brad's replacement has finally arrived:

Which part? The one dimensional characters? I'd like someone to name non one dimensional characters in a shooter. Boy, that Dom sure was deep. Maybe if someone played sad music and slowed down a picture of Big Bo people would call it epic gaming moment.

The controls felt great. They felt like a shooter and they had weight to it. I don't know what more you expect to do with a shooter especially when this isn't even as big of a game as a Gears or even an Army of Two title, and it's a new IP.

It also had some of the best selections of levels in a shooter this generation. Lots of variety even on similar concepts. In most games, I don't replay them because there's that one bad part, but I never had one for Binary Domain. Even the turret sequences are fairly fun. It doesn't have slow moments because it's a big stupid action game. The guy who makes the Yakuza games built an entire series out of slow moments, so when he does a shooter, he wants lots of shooting. Would it make people feel better if he would put his two fingers on his ear and have pointless conversations to draw the game out longer where you do absolutely nothing and talk about things that have no contribution to the story whatsoever?

Every complaint he makes can be leveraged against any other third person shooter this generation. He/she is also being incredibly hyperbolic to try to get attention for going against the popular opinion on here.

its like reverse hoarders or something.

also Mike Ermantrout is replacing brad. awesome!!!

Maaaaaan, people are fucking locked into this epic battle of "who can send Giant Bomb the dumbest shit", aren't they? MC Scat Kat is gonna be hard to beat.

I need to use their website. I've been a fan of Jeff ever since he gave an honest review and was fired for it and left with pride. I was a regular GameSpot reader until that day, which was when I immediately stopped.

I had heard they were starting GiantBomb. I visited it once or twice. Didn't really pull me away from Kotaku.

I'm now listening to their podcasts because I need something to listen to at work and these guys are great. I KNEW IN MY HEART IT WOULD BE TRUE.

Anything cool about the website besides just reading their updates/articles, though? I think that's what I was confused about when I visited the site in its early days. There were all these game pages and all this functionality and features and not a lot of actual content or users.

The sooner you pull away from Kotaku, the better.

Ok, first thing you need to know: The main thrust of the site is the videos. Not the articles. I mean, Patrick does a great job, but they're like the side dish to the videos' main course.

Check out some Quick Looks and try out the Endurance Runs.
