I know it. It ruffles my feathers too when Jeff dismisses a game so quickly based on his quirky tastes (character action genre comes to mind). I think it's good Patrick joined the team as he seems willing to give mostly anything a shot. The problem is that I know Jeff means it. Another problem is that I actually have no idea if he's ever played it.
The "asshole contrarian" is one of my least favorite Jeff Gerstmann skits, to put it one way.Let's hope it's mostly absent from the GOTYcasts, but I already fear he's got something lined up for The Walking Dead.
But you know, Giantbomb isn't out to be objective on every video game. They created the site to have fun with what they want to play. I don't go to them for reviews but I enjoy their entertainment and strong personalities.
This is the biggest reason I think they fucked up going with Skyrim over Saints Row The Third. SR3 would have been a very Giant Bomb choice, Skyrim was the industry safe choice.
Nope, not at all.Did Ryan make an argument for Super Mario Galaxy 2 at any point during the 2010 deliberations? He did give it a 5-star review. And it's possibly one of the greatest games of all time.
Thank you, I totally agree for all of these reasons. I would like to hear an actual argument from someone that doesn't that reads more than, "I disagree" though. Not even close. The story is crappy and they spend barely any time on it. The characters don't develop much through the story and there's no reason to care for any of them. And events throughout the game are super predictable. Every little bit is just so incredibly cliche and tiresome.
Except every character in Binary Domain is one dimensional?
As for the gameplay, the only good part is how the robots tear apart. You're still just fighting the same robots with the same guns through the whole game. And your movement speed really does feel sluggish - it's super annoying. But since I've never got very far into any Gears game, I can't really compare. It's a much worse third person shooter than even something like Mass Effect 2 and 3 though.
It's a bad game.

Wow, people are literally just sending GB their old shit now. They're probably going to have to stop showing it on camera soon enough.
Also, Brad's replacement has finally arrived:

I need to use their website. I've been a fan of Jeff ever since he gave an honest review and was fired for it and left with pride. I was a regular GameSpot reader until that day, which was when I immediately stopped.
I had heard they were starting GiantBomb. I visited it once or twice. Didn't really pull me away from Kotaku.
I'm now listening to their podcasts because I need something to listen to at work and these guys are great. I KNEW IN MY HEART IT WOULD BE TRUE.
Anything cool about the website besides just reading their updates/articles, though? I think that's what I was confused about when I visited the site in its early days. There were all these game pages and all this functionality and features and not a lot of actual content or users.
