To everyone asking about Vita compatibility for Castlevania: SOTN, we're trying to find out some answers for you today. Thanks.

:O
Konami answered my email. Long story short "we will forward your feedback to the appropriate department".

is there a site that tells us whats coming up in PS plus in the EU? I know we have a December thread but can we find out further than that (like a month ahead or something).

Its still totally worth the money as I got the 3 months for £7.99 and for that I got back UGA and GR which I had traded in a few weeks before. Also got chrono vault (seemed a bit crap so far) and BSI (seemed OK. SHMUPS not really my thing but will give it some time). I know MK is coming up with I already own on cart (but might mean I trade it in and keep it digitally).

However it would be nice to know if any decent full games I havn't played are coming up. I wouldn't mind the likes of dynasty warriors or dungeon hunter coming up on there. Basically games I could never convince myself to out right buy but would prob enjoy regardless.

My basic plan is to buy the few games that are must haves to me and leave the rest to appear on PS plus.

These things only kinda make sense, when you look at the full picture, though.

- Cheap Deaths: From what?
---- Meteors: You can drill through them...
---- Enemy Swarm!: You have a Vortex Shield for those situations.
---- Shield enemies: Vortex helps here, too.
---- Random enemey spawn: A pulse wave shoots out from the edge of the screen, as enemies spawn.

- Emergent, but forgetable levels:
---- Eh, they have more design element setup than most normal twin-sticks, but not as impressive as a real, fully designed classic shooter.
---- It almost seems more like it's just parts of a classic shooter being tossed into random orders.

- Upgrade-athon:
---- That only really applies to the 1 mode. Arcade mode lets you choose a few powerups, and then rush and attack the mode.
---- I will agree that the upgrade-stuff feels like cheap gameplay padding, because none of it really feels "impressive" to me. The Powerups feel nice enough, but that's really all that was needed.

I am ready to admit that Big Sky isnt really a BAD game, its just not really good either. Its non-focus on a certain playstyle make it more mediocre than anything else. I played it for a few hours when it released on Vita, but ultimately stopped when it killed me the Xth time WITH vortex shield in those swarm areas. I still dont know what killed me there, and considering I used the Vortex Shield, enemies shouldnt -> Cheap deaths. After the first incident , I specifically looked for why I am being killed and its not apparent to me. If I am even LOOKING for that, but the game simply doesnt tell me, then thats bad design. I could very well be missing something, but considering this isnt my first shmup, its something that apparently should be more obvious.

Yeah, its not a classic shooter. In the end they use elements from classic shooters, so it sort of needs to measure up and it doesnt. If I take a look at Gradius, R-Type or even Sine Mora (or whichever other shmup), Big Sky falls really, really, really flat in terms of balance, gratification, design, bullet patterns etcetc

In addition to the Upgradeathon, I think my biggest problem is that powerups dont feel... powerful? Getting a weapon powerup in Sine Mora makes you immediately notice the stronger weapon. Same goes for every single good shmup. Big Sky fails in that regard as well, I get no gratification from collection stuff ingame. Upgrading outside of the mission gives some slightly noticeable boosts in the beginning, but after that if you put like 1 or 2 points into something, you dont notice anything changing. Its very weirdly designed for a space shooter.

Now, I am not saying that no one will be able to enjoy this game, but ultimately it falls flat in a few key areas and doesnt really excel in others either (except graphics), making it a hard sell for me. I will keep it on my Vita just to marvel at those coloured clouds from time to time (and to justify my purchase), but I cant honestly recommend it whenever someone asks me.

The Vita's not at 100% compatiblity with PS1 games yet unforunately.

Ive done some research and figured out as much, but thanks for the reply nonetheless. It's a shame, I bought a Vita expecting all PS1 games had been made compatible, but I guess now that it's a case-by-case basis.

Still, I only had a Vita a week or so, and would have bought SOTN on PSN any time in the past 6 years if they had bothered to make it available so I will probably take the plunge anyway!

Kudos to Konami, they fixed it really quickly

I'm suspecting that games licensing isn't 100% compatible with Vita not the games themselves ;)

Possibly, I guess the vagaries of licensing are a mystery to me.

Anyway, Castlevania is now up in the Aus PSN store for Vita too!!!!!

But I dont have enough money in my wallet :(

Off to the shops tomorrow.

I'm joining this. Long live the Vita!

I'm 30 hours in to Persona 4 Golden. That game is so good. Anybody a Valkyria Chronicles fan? I wish they'd bring anything from that franchise over to the Vita. I'd play through the first one again on Vita if it had trophies.

I´m just messing around in Uncharted:GA again.. trying to collect all the hidden stuff ad get some trophies. This game is just the best Vita game evar... perfect handheld game (only downside is that I feel like a complete idiot rubbing the screen all the time, and the log balancing is stupid..) but besides the boring screen rubbing and baancing it is perfect.. ;o)

I want to play Valkyria Chronicles 2, but it's so expensive in the US store and I am currently not in the mood to switch to my EU account.

I plan to get a couple more games tomorrow along with SOTN.

Thinking Tactics Ogre PSP and Vagrant Story PS1.

Can anyone vouch for the quality of how they run on Vita?

Typical, just as I am on the train off away for a few days they sort it out, lol.
Maybe I will try and find a wifi spot I can sit around.

Great news though, this and Spyro, great Chrismas treat, I have little to bother the guys on the blog about now, lol.

Well done Konami! Will buy later, even if I'd prefer the full speed version. :p

Just keep the EU blog in your RSS reader. They will post up usually late the week before the next update is due.

Picked up Surge last night thanks to all the chatter here about it.

Great little game! Didn't have much time with it, but I can already tell it will be very addictive.

Thanks to all the vitabros/vitamuffins/vitacats/vitadawgs/vitadads for the recommendation.

Rented Sonic Racing Transformed.

It's a lot better than I expected. The strength is really in the tracks, I feel. The Panzer Dragoon track is so ace, I enjoyed it way more than anything you'd find on Mario Kart.

Graphics are nice enough. Not pushing the Vita, but I'd say they're on about the same level as Mario Kart Double Dash, which is fine.

Overall, pretty impressed so far.

Wow wow wow. I'm seeing billboards all over the area where I'm living (near bus stops), about the vita costing 199 euros now and one game displayed with every billboard. I saw three games, Call of Duty, AC and Fifa. That's a pretty good way to market your device, and it's pretty much the first time I see such agressive marketing in my area (Holland). Ps, what is this about 199 euros? Is this an official price drop?

GAME have dropped their prices in the UK on Vita bundles too, unofficial price-cut?!

I never found this bundle. Where is it? I visit the store via my PS3 and search for e.g. "Valk", but don't find it.

Looks like they finally removed it. I just went to where I had found it and now they just list the base game.

It was up for over a year, surprised they killed it right before the holidays.

Tactics Ogre runs great on the Vita, I've been playing it off and on. Had to turn on bilinear filtering though as the text looked a bit off without it.

Wow @ Konami. Impressive!

However I still won't pay £7.99 for a PSX game :3

Welcome! And congrats on P4G. It's awesome.

HI GUYS.

Played a bit of Big Sky Infinity last night. Really enjoying it actually. Nice gameplay and looks absolutely gorgeous on dat OLED

(BTW girlfriend is here so might not be around in thread much til Monday/tuesday :()

Well, Big Sky definitely sucks.

Interested to see what US gets for Vita next week. If it's equivalent to or superior to MK, I'm going to be very sad. SCEE seems to be giving us a good game and a crap game every month.

I have it for PC. I think it's just a schizophrenic mess.

LOL that explains A LOT.

Also is there a way to use a stylus or official stylus for vita? Is there a way to use a stylus on capacitive touch screens? I know you can on samsung's phablet, but not sure if they have special tech there.

The reason I ask is because I decided I'm gonna buy Smart Ass, but I'll wait for a more reasonable price on PSN ($10 is my limit for this type of game) and the math game, where you write down the answer, would be much better and precise with a stylus IMO. The finger works most of the time, but the stylus would be the obvious superior choice.

They have special tech to allow you to use a Stylus.

The crap Styluses they release for capacitive touch screens are not worth any money.

That's nice and all, but ya'll really should buy Drac X collection to go through the game a second time with the new translation. Totally worth it even with the funky aspect ratio.
