I disagree, the Whiskey Media Happy Hour consistently made me pleased to be a subscriber.

You are one of the few. The happy hour provided about a half dozen memorable moments in a year of programming. Not the best batting average.

They got their shit together when they created unique video content for each member of the team.

What's so bad about it? Haven't seen.

It's 5 min long and SUPER edited. They skip a lot of stuff to only show the "critical" stuff and yet, you don't see shit lol. Except for 1 or 2 cinematics, it doesn't show anything about the game.

They were probably doing some experimentations back then to find a new "proper" quicklook format. Thank God they decided to continue the hour long undited quicklooks instead.

Why was it taken down?

Edit: Ah yeah ok, I just watched it. No wonder they took it down the main site, it's by far the worst quicklook I've seen.

Just watched it. The actual quick look was a lot longer, this version's been cut up into a nice 5 minute chunk.

Never realized that they had taken the original off the main site, I remember watching it when it was first put up. If I had to guess, I would say R*'s lawyers got in touch with them asked them to pull it.

In the original quick look they started the game from the beginning and showed the first couple of missions. I think it was at least 30 minutes?

Jeff is really a content machine. Jar Times, Encyclopedia Bombastica, random streaming from home or the car.

Shame none of the others (apart from Patrick) produce any recurring content on their own. I would love to watch Vinny just playing Sleeping Dogs.

It wasn't edited back then. The parts that have been edited out are presumably the parts that got it taken down.

Encyclopaedia Bombastica is a great little feature but I think they should have all the guys doing episodes of it.

I bet they all have random old games they could talk about a bunch and not just the walking gaming history Encyclopaedia that is Jeff.

That is the idea. It's just that, for whatever reason, only Jeff has done them thus far.

I still don't really understand what any of them do during a given week. Bombcast for 3 hours then Ryan edits it. Alex maybe publishes one review. 3 or 4 quick looks. TNT for an hour.

Well, this week was thin because they were shooting all the GOTY stuff, but on a normal week I can see them being busy alot.

I believe there's a lot of talking to publishers to get access to games, plus for the most part they try to play at least some of a game prior to a quick look. Add in the planning for the various events they go to, and it can add up.

But the production side can get bottled up, given that it's just Vinny and Drew. Easy to have one of them recording a QL and another editing a QL.

At about 6.5 hours a day (lets give 1.5 hours for lunch, bathroom breaks, meetings), its going to take a long time to review a game like Far Cry 3 or Assassin's Creed 3. Now a lot of these guys probably also bring work home and play games at home. But to do an extensive review of all of the features in one of the games I mentioned, it would take at least 5 work days and probably closer to 7 or 8.

I was under the impression that the vast majority of the game playing for a review takes place at home (aside from capturing footage) and that their work day is mostly writing, production, talking with publishers, prepping for future events, opening mail.

I think a few of them have noted that they work more than 8 hours a day almost all the time.

They play a lot of games at work. See Brad and usually Patrick every Monday vid.

Space Taxi looks really cool! It's old, but it's not as obviously limited by the hardware as Atari 2600 games generally are. Lots of cool little things like the table tennis ball and satellite dishes in there.

He was going to build a gaming PC and last I heard he ran into some tax issues he had to work out before making the purchase.

I'm also guessing that getting through his backlog for game of the year and (guess what?) 999 probably ate into that time.

So, yeah, all of you who were cheering Patrick on as he played 999, it's all YOUR fault.

Not really, but it probably didn't help

I kinda feel bad for Jeff. I get the impression he feels the onus is on him to create all the additional content that goes on the site. Obviously he's the EiC so he'll always have more responsibility, but maybe Ryan or Brad could pick up the slack more?

Being the 'boss' of your friends must suck. I imagine, rather than awkwardly cracking the whip, it's probably easier to just say fuck it and produce the content yourself.

It's a C64 game. This would look way worse on the 2600.

I must be watching the wrong episodes. I've mostly seen repetitive fights in repetitive dungeons and lots of time spent in menus fusing things. I'm sure it's fun to play, but it couldn't hold my interest to watch.

Self-fulfilling prophecy. I impulse bought P4 Golden and spent nearly 17 hours playing it since Saturday afternoon. Once I finish it I totally feel like I can go back and try the P4 ER again and that this time I'll really enjoy it because I'll have a better understanding of what's going on, what's coming, etc.

P4G is now my GOTY, having unseated Sleepy Dawgs.

I love the part of the thread where everyone assumes they know exactly what goes on behind the scenes at GB, in addition to what every staff member thinks. Good job guys.
