In your opinion, the franchises that went down hill this gen?

Title says it all. What game franchises in your opinion have took a turn for the worse this gen? Off the top of my head resident evil and final fantasy for me.
 
Haven't played any of them this generation but from reading about it, I would say the Silent Hill franchise is definitely up there.
 
Final Fantasy. There's really no contest. Other franchises already started their decline in the past gen but Final Fantasy.. LOL :/
 
Final Fantasy started its downhill ride at the middle/end of last gen. Big ones to me this gen would be, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Bionic Commando, and Castlevania off the top of my head. I'll need to think about others, though on the flip side a bunch of other Franchises have improved a lot this gen.
 
Final Fantasy
Grand Theft Auto (still a chance for redemption though)
Metal Gear Solid
Hitman
Splinter Cell
Elder Scrolls
Fallout (redeemed through New Vegas)

That's all I want to list for now. It's depressing to re-live so many painful memories.

Basically 5 of my favourite franchises going into this gen and they're all dog shit now (possible exception of MGS which I will still buy, play and hopefully enjoy with Ground Zeroes)
 
Final Fantasy. We went from 12 to... the 13 trilogy ;~;

Twilight Princess was great but man Skyward Sword was a massive disappointment.

Though I still appreciate some of them, just different directions and all. They should've just took the effort to establish new IPs early on.
 
Many of them. Here are some of my favorites.

Final fantasy
Resident evil
Gran Turismo
Metal gear solid
Grand theft auto

And by favorites, I mean the people responsible for this gens games in the above franchises have damaged my childhood irreparably.

That said, they are still solid games for the most part.

All of them ? come on guys, you're telling me Mario Galaxy is a fall from grace ?

OT: Since you guys went with Final Fantasy, I'll say Ninja Gaiden , I mean 3 is an insult to the old games, NES games included.
 
Zelda went in decline right after the N64 for me. They kept releasing good Zelda games but they went less and less impressive each episode after the other. I really love Skyward Sword and it was my GOTY last year, but I can understand the hate for people who can't stand motion controls, and there's is a problem with the excessive hand holding (which once again didn't bother me too much, but I can understand the hate, I would have enjoyed the game more without Fi, that's for sure). So for me it's actually the opposite, after Twilight Princess I was kinda depressed of not being able to enjoy a Zelda game like I did enjoy OoT and Majora's Mask back then, but SS surprised me in a good way. I'm currently replaying it on Wii U, and I'm having a blast.

I agree with Ninja Gaiden too, I loved NG 1/Black to death, but 2 and 3 are awful. It's almost as if NG1 being so brilliant was an accident.

Bwuh? FFX is well-loved and was a huge success, XI is Square's most successful game in the franchise (and amazing), and XII at least was a financial success that still has a vocal cult following.

PS1 was definitely the golden age of Final Fantasy, but this gen is a huge disaster compared to PS2 for them.
 
Silent Hill got so bad that Konami went back and retrospectively ruined the PS2 games just to make sure.
 
First post seems pretty representative of neoGAF as a whole, recently. It's annoying too, because I actually still like gaming.
