Oh man, one of my favourite series is the Thieves' World anthologies. Twelve books in those too but with the added bonus of not needing to remember a host of plot points over months or years. Really wish the new ones would have taken off.

Never heard of it, would you recommend? Always up to try new series.

Well, I'm thinking about seeing someone in Toronto for New Year's.

You should think about it, they'd probably appreciate it. I'll be alone in my house unless there are unexpected guests (which considering my neighbourhood could mean either actual guests or a B&E).

Wait, you'd be invited.

Oh hey are finally gonna do that Toronto gayGAF meet up?

Yeah! We've been working on the details. Still need to finalize a date though.

Well, they're quite old and kind of hard to find. I suppose it would depend on your tolerance for inconsistent quality in writing and a setting that's a little "grim/dark."

If you don't mind stories about people living terrible lives or writing from the eighties I would whole heartily recommend them.

They'd better appreciate it! I'm ferrying myself into Toronto! (Bonus: I get to avoid the Rosebowl parade)

Still figuring out the possibilities of it though. Have to head to the man who was responsible for a half of my creation today, unfortunately, so I'm going to miss this thread's witty repartee.

New guy, new fun, new awesomeness! He came outta nowhere. Okcupid. Going so well. Crashed last night after he had me over and cooked me dinner. There were hours of cuddles and x-rated cuddles. Felt so nice after a year of disappointments.

Also, Toronto GayGAF meetup? I'm there!

I'm not sure about Wheel of Time as I haven't read it, but sometimes the commitment to long sagas can be really rewarding. When I was a kid I read the Weis-Hickman Dragonlance saga (12 books) and loved every minute of it. I found it really cool that the world and its characters were fleshed out so completely, and there were details that carried through the entire series (which pleased me as a continuity nerd). Also found it smart that it was broken up into miniature trilogies so segments of the over all series could be read on their own.

It took a few years to get through but I really enjoyed it (and regret that it hasn't/probably won't ever get a good movie adaptation).

I already have ideas! Merely curious if others have New Year's as barren and uneventful as mine.

I'm re-reading the WoT series right now. I'm on book 13, and the last book is due out January 8th. I highly, highly recommend them. They can be a bit of a slog just due to their length (I completely skipped book 11 since I had read it before and it was the most boring), but ultimately super rewarding. Especially the end of book 12. Sogood.

This guy I'm talking to has big money problems and is considering becoming an escort. I wish I could do something to help like a kickstarter but I'm afraid I wouldn't raise much money. It's a shame.

Is he hot and equipped well enough for something like that? If so, then he should totally go for it. Being an escort is an enriching and exciting profession, and one that I would highly recommend.

I dated a stripper who escorted on the side. I wouldn't recommend it.

I didn't know he hooked on the side though. Also, two years after we broke up I heard he had contracted HIV, become a meth addict avd moved back home with his family. He was a waste.

Any general dating advice? I have a date next week. My first in nearly 2 years, so I really don't want to screw this up.

Make eye contact, have interesting conversation topics ready, don't get wasted, bring condoms and lube for whatever may happen.

Talk, ask lots of questions. Make a joke or two. Sense of humor is key. Dress nicely. Keep your phone off the table. Don't text or check Grindr for gods sake.

Ask questions about them, don't interrupt. Always be interested in what they are saying.

Edit: Also try not to look like you are concentrating on doing these things :) Relax.

Whoa, I had no idea WoT was still being written. I always took it as a series that started and finished in the fantasy boom of the 80s (don't ask me where this impression comes from). Perhaps I'll give it a shot sometime.

Ha, I can deal with both those things. I'll have to look into that.

They certainly would (or so I'd imagine). Hopefully they don't end up putting the Rosebowl parade on, that would just be cruel irony.

Yup. Spinach in teeth is a bit of a turn off unless things are AMAZING, and you can laugh it off by that point in the date.

The food thing actually hadn't crossed my mind at all. Noted.

So I had my first sort of date today since breaking up with my ex. As I said in my last post I'm not really THAT into this guy but he seems nice. He had been pestering me about wanting to see The Hobbit so we went today. Things were very smooth though I didn't see it as a "romantic" date, we're just hanging out and getting to know each other (I think).

I wasn't really hungry after the movie so we didn't eat straight away. After we left the mall I got hungry so we tried to get something somewhere else but pretty much everything was closed so we just thought we'd just eat at our houses.

After I dropped him off, he was eating some sweet crackers because there wasn't anything else to eat at his place so I told him we could try and get some food again (at one of those sort of food cart things, not sure what's the proper English name). I picked him up, we had dinner and had a very nice conversation.

He asked me if I was over my ex (since we still live together, he knows it since a few days ago) I opened up to him and told him that I'm over my ex but I'm not really over the guy I sort of left my ex for.

I'm glad now he knows where my head/heart is at. I told him a quick version of the whole story. Later I asked him what does he think about me now and he said I'm not as big of mess as he thought I would be, so I guess that's good.

What is it called in not-English?

Sounds like a successful date.

Reminds me - seeing your high school friends / people you know on "hot guys" tumblr pages is strange.
I mean they are hot, and I know they're hot but still...
Yeah, I'll admit that the attention is flattering, but I wonder how many people have stumbled across me on tumblr and done that whole "I KNOW THAT GUY". I'm not going to shock many people at my high school reunion in a couple of years, lol.

I dunno, but I just saw your picture (it was the same picture as before) on a second tumblr I visit. It really feels strange to see someone you know there.
The gym shot? Yeah that one got around, but not too bad. I uploaded one the other day for fun and in less than 20 hours it's gotten like 1300 "notes" or something. I should really stop it. :/

I never upload anything risque that's public, and if I ever do they are not easily identifiable if seen outside of context.

Aside from a mishap with a gaffer, I've never seen anything like that get around.

Are we talking about that pic of you in your bed that you have on fb?

Boxer briefs are wonderful, wonderful things. Putting on a new pair can make me feel like a million bucks (especially when new socks are involved, too).

I must be getting old if I'm starting to enjoy the idea of getting socks and underwear for Christmas.

Merry Christmas everyone here and Happy Holidays.

Best wishes for you, your partners and your families. May god or whatever force you believe in keep you safe, healthy and surrounded by love.

Merry Christmas to you guys :)
It's really been a weird year to me, I don't really feel like doing anything at all TBH. My mom is away and so is my sister. My brother is spending tonight with his wife's family and my Dad will also be celebrating with his wife and my younger stepsister. He told me to go with him and that's what I'm gonna do but if it was up to me I'd just stay at home.

I've always been kind of asocial, though I've gotten over it with the years but I still feel kind of awkward when I'm around unfamiliar people (in this case my dad's wife and her daughter).

Anyway, I wish the best to all of you and hope you have a good time with whoever means the most to you.

Also: Baby Jesus is coming!!!!
