PSO2 is going to be sub based?

*shakes head* Sega, give me PSP2 back on the store and keep the online servers up. That's a proper PSO experience. :|

I wanted to love Sound Shapes. I love Jonathan Mak and Queasy Games. I love Everyday Shooter (it was my first PSN purchase) and I kind of want to buy the PSP version (but not for $10). But overall, I found Soundshapes disappoining, even with the day one PS+ discount.
If you want to make levels with music, a la LBP, then it's worth it. If you want an easy double platinum (if you have a PS3), it's worth it.
If you just want to play the game? I'd say wait for a sale... it might be in next weeks final Holiday Sale deals... or it might be PS+ soon. Either way, I'd recommend going that way instead of plunking down your $15.
Buy Dokuro instead for $10 and save the $5 for it i goes on sale for $7.50. :)

Thank you for this, although Dokuro doesn't sound like something I'm in the mood for either. I have a ton of Vita games that I'm enjoying but I still feel like I'm missing something essential (figuring this out now is important because I'll be on a trip for a month).

Depends, how many current or upcoming games do you want for it?

Disgaea 3 and Persona 4 Golden right now. I'm not really up to snuff what's coming out. Any pointers? EDIT: Well maybe I should check the OP.

I feel like I'm gonna get a Vita at some point anyway and I doubt it's gonna be any cheaper.

Just ordered a Vita, a 32gb card and LBP! Gonna be fun to try out those free games I got from PS+

nice congrats. well worth it. esp with ps+. it seems you're pretty well on your way with software.

i'd recc a hori screen protector to prevent scratches.

any recent psn/vita owners feel free to add me: wutdaheckman

*shakes head* Sega, give me PSP2 back on the store and keep the online servers up. That's a proper PSO experience. :|
There's a sub option for it, but you don't need it to play the game. The sub gives you access to an expanded bank, My Room (player housing), My Shop (vendor where you can post your stuff to sell to other players), the ability to trade (other person also has to be a subscriber), access to shared clan storage, and access to some useless buffs. You don't need a sub to enjoy the game at all, the only useful thing locked behind it is My Shop which you can get access to by playing the free in game scratch off lottery or by paying for a 30 day a la carte pass (My Room and the expanded bank storage also have a la carte passes).

This thread has been great reading for me while working on the Playstation All-Stars platinum. Doing arcade mode for every character is so boring so where there is a time limit I've been getting enough kills to win and then just reading this thread, it definitely passes the time.

I just don't know what game to start next. I've got Persona 4 and Ragnarok Odyssey sat here, both of which I've imported, along with probably almost a dozen other Vita games to play. Maybe I'll finally finish Gravity Rush. How attainable is the Gravity Rush platinum?

It's Free to Play with a premium option. It's also truer to PSO then anything Sega's released since 1999. PSP/2/Infinity are the children of PSU.

There's a retail version. It comes with promo codes for 30 days of the subscription service and some in game items including costumes from Phantasy Star Portable 2.

What kind of obstacles are there to playing the Japan PSO2 on a USA Vita? I have both a USA and Japan PSN account - can I use either while playing it? Wait - if it's digital only then it has to be downloaded using a Japan account. I assume I need a separate memory card to use the Japan account on the system.

Are there any hints of an English release of the game? It's the reason I bought the damned Vita in November, and if it only gets a Japan release I'll be extremely disappointed.

Boring is probably the main complaint I would levy against Golden Abyss as well. It has some good ideas in the more elaborate treasure hunting system, and gyro-assisted aiming is a treat, but the game as a whole is just an enormous step back in terms of ambition and design.

I'd argue the opposite. UC3 was far too ambitious and forgot what about the basics were which diminished much of the flavour the previous games had. Golden Abyss has far better pacing, more humour, more exploration, better banter and just the write amount of ambition when it came to the set pieces. It didn't have the craziness of the UC3 set pieces as a handheld and rightly so.

Is Persona 4 Golden on US PSN? Because in Europe it comes out in late February so I would have to import the US version. Downloading off the US PSN would be much more hassle-free (and cheaper).

EDIT: 45€ for a 16 GB card? Are you fucking shitting me, Sony? how big are these games?

You'll need a JP PSN account and a separate memory card for the JP account. Even if you get the retail version I still believe you'll need a JP PSN account cause the game requires you to link up your PSN ID with a SEGA ID. The game text will also probably be all in Japanese and unlike the PC version you can't patch the files with English text.

There's been no word on a English release of the Vita version, English PC is coming sometime in early 2013. Maybe once they start giving specifics about the PC release they'll start talking about the Vita port.

Get it from PlayAsia.com. I got mine for £27 from them which is cheaper than it will be when it gets released here in February, free shipping too.

Edit: It's a load of hassle switching between accounts so buying it off the US PSN shouldn't really be an option unless you plan on using that US account all the time.

The 2D Adventures Of Rotating Octopus Character is also a great mini :)

I just got my first character-specific ending in VLR after 16 hours. It took such a long time to get through that I thought I stumbled on to the true ending. But man this game's plot is kinda crazy and hard to keep track of.

999 got a better plot(until you hit that bullshit true ending)cast and tension.

How does the game compare to 999? I just beat that the other day and I'm about to start VLR tonight.

I only youtube'd 999 but I'm more into the characters in VLR than I was watching the plot and all of the characters in 999. Puzzles I have no idea since I skipped through them in the youtube video, but the puzzles in this game have ranged from slightly challenging to pretty tough so far. It's a really fun game.

Does PSN work just like on the PS3? As in that I can buy from other regions as long as the PSN account is from that region?

Yes, and no. Yes in that it works. No, in that the system doesn't let you switch as easily.

Just realised my Vita is almost two months old (yay!) and already have quite the collection, if I may say so, but still don't know what it's cartridges look like.
I plan to never purchase a physical game for this thing.

Sound Shapes is really good, right? I feel like it's something I ought to really want, but I can never bring myself to buy it.

If you like platforms and or music get it. It's amazing. I got the double plat, thoroughly enjoyed it, although death mode was extremely unfair hahaha.

Also, Dungeon Hunter was like 15$ on sale @ Amazon so I took a bite on that as well. I've been dying for a dungeon crawler/loot fest on the go so, this will scratch that itch.

I'm kind of tired of all the haters who don't give a game a chance unless it's completely amazing and or perfect. Lots of the games I've played are really fun even though they're not perfect.. I mean in an ideal world all games would ship with locked framerates and no bugs but that's not the case anymore, we live in a world of post-launch patches, games don't have to be perfect at launch anymore, although ideally they would be.

I dunno, if it's fun I'll give it a chance, hence why I got Little Deviants and Dungeon Hunter on a really good sale. I always prefer carts, so it means a lot to me getting that and saving space on my card.

Yeah sound shapes is an easy recommendation if you like challenging platforming. Each new level is its own experience, no continuing story or anything... Perfect for me ;)

Yeah guess I'll just use my US account then. So how big are these games? Are 16 gb really needed or should I go with 8 gb?

depends how much you want to carry around with you. and if you will go more retail or more digital with game purchases.... i personally have been rocking a 4gb since black friday....it's suited my needs so far. though i know im going to buy a 16 or 32...or wait it out and hope they announce a 64 in the spring..

most people here will tell you the absolute minimum is 8gb. 16 is good for an average consumer with a mix of retail and digital and 32 if you plan to buy a ton of digital games andw want to carry almost your entire library with you...

vita games can range maybe 1.2-3.5 gbs roughly.... everything else psn games, minis, psp, ps1, are usually under 1gb.

Golden Abyss has far better pacing, more humour, more exploration, better banter and just the write amount of ambition when it came to the set pieces. It didn't have the craziness of the UC3 set pieces as a handheld and rightly so.

This is the problem, though. Uncharted for me is just not a good "handheld" game in the traditional sense. The reason I, and just about anyone else plays Uncharted is for the craziness and the setpieces. What else is Uncharted? Simplistic traversal, mediocre shooting mechanics, and banal puzzles. Uncharted 3 took some strides in the puzzle department, which I applaud, and Uncharted 2 had a couple gems, but the rest is fluff. It just looks cool (sometimes).

The few things UGA does better than the rest of the series, it does great. But it falters in most other respects, which is a shame. I thought some of the banter which poked fun at the series' tropes was cute, but it wasn't close to redemptive. There was too much minigame bullshit, and not enough "moments". Not enough character moments, not enough awesome moments. Just some good ideas, mostly squandered, and a few really bad ideas *cough* cutscene treasure hunts *cough*.

That's how I feel, anyway. Ultimately I'm a big enough fan of Uncharted to have enjoyed this game, but it felt a lot like going back to Uncharted 1 after having already played 2 and 3. It was disappointing, to say the least.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news,
but Sony has canned the Vita
.

Not really, but Sony is barely selling past two million of these suckers. I'm not sure how reputable PS Vita Hub is, but I got this from their recent article.

So... help gaf.

I recently noticed a line in my vita, a darker-toned line that can be seen in complete darkness.

Yes, the mura.

The problem is that on well lit rooms it can be seen as well. imagine you get your psvita on from suspension. Okay, picture that screen with the time on a grey background.

I see that line from approximately 15% of the screen from the left and almost taking the whole upper part of the vita.

That's not even near-black color. So I don't know why it appears. I can even see it on the blue tone of the playstation forums background.

I barely have stains, but I have two horrible lines that cross the whole screen (1 completely does, the other almost).

What do? Should I ask amazon for a replacement?

Just ordered a Vita, a 32gb card and LBP! Gonna be fun to try out those free games I got from PS+
I just ordered mine. The 50€ cashback and great games via ps+ made it a no brainer. This is going to be my first handheld in a while and I'm usually pretty happy trying new hardware, so this one is really exciting.
Gravity Rush at last :D

Thanks man. Guess I'll go with the 16 gb.

Broken record time:
If you *ever* think you'll need more space (and you probably need more than you think unless everything you play/buy is on a cart and you're not a PS+ member), I'd strongly consider a 32gb.

So many people in here have caved and gotten 32gb cards now.
Many people want 64 or 128 sizes.
And really, again, if you're spending $58 to get 16gb, whynot pay $22 more to get twice the space? :)
