Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

It shouldn't, though... I remember reading that the speed of the PSP environment on the Vita is actually far more powerful than the original PSP ever was, but you might just need to adjust the speed setting in the exploit itself. I had it fully cranked and didn't notice any speed issues, but I never played any emulators, just a handful of PSP games.

Maybe I'll mess with the settings some more, I just remember Mario Kart running better on my PSP Go.

PSP games are flawless(the ones I've tried), no complaints with that.

Have you mucked around with the speeds at all? I can't remember how to get to that screen specifically, but it was pretty easy... like pressing square on that CFW menu or something. It's worth a shot, at least.

Can anyone verify if FBAx or MAME works on it at all?

Yeah I have, it's square. Messed with the CPU speed and tried both "drivers", not sure what that does. Mario Kart is unplayable.

Don't know if anybody has any suggestions as to what settings they're using.

Poop. I added my copy of Super Mario Advance 4 to my GBA emulator, but when I repackaged the zip file and extracted it onto my Vita, it wiped my Mother 3 save away. What did I do wrong?

Some of my backups aren't showing up, but some of them are so I know that I'm doing it right. Is it an issue with the ISO itself? I'm thinking I might just forget this and rebuy Tactics Ogre and Dissidia 012 (the only PSP games I would REALLY like to play on my Vita). FFT WOTL is free for PS+ so I don't need tow worry about that one. Not having BBS sucks, but Crisis Core really isn't that great anyways tbh.

It must be your ISO files, every one of mine that I have tried works including Tactics Ogre.

1. Make sure filenames aren't longer than eight characters
2. make sure the filename and extension are both in all caps
3. Try ymenu, I've had better luck with that

I've heard that this y-menu works... what exactly do I have to do? I pulled up the menu inside the UNO exploit but I didn't see that anywhere

I think you might've needed to backup your saves with CMA on the Vita before doing the restore. That way, when you restored the exploit via the Uno (or whatever game) save, you would also be able to choose the Mother 3 save to restore. I think?

Actually, that makes no sense. It depends on where the PSP games save their... save. If it's outside the exploit environment it should be fine. Maybe check via the CMA on the Vita to confirm it's not there.

Oh wait, Mother 3 is a GBA game. Yeah, the only way you could've saved it is if you backed up your exploited save back to your PC before you injected SMA4. Assuming you were using the CMA method, of course.

Edit: Ohhhhh shit, Uno's been pulled. Should I disable any kind of auto-update on my PS3 so the package that's on there doesn't get updated?
Edit #2: Okay, so the Uno thing isn't news.

BTW, will any PSP homebrew work on the Vita? I managed to get FTP working (by getting the multi-menu thing which had it included) and dragged a folder over with Picodrive, the icon appears but I just get an error when trying to run it.

I can't get any SNES roms to work. When I load a rom from the emulator it freezes on "No settings found, using default"

Am I using a wrong emulator? I have SNES9xTYL

EDIT: NVM. Got it working. I needed to download the VHBL compatible snes emu.

I just realized that you don't need to do the copy/move to the /ISO folder function for PSP backups. Just cancel out and a 2nd option will show up asking if you want to run the game right away. Really helpful since the moving thing requires you to have double the space just to copy the game to the correct folder.

Is there any downside to just running the backup this way?

Yes, that means you are leaving it in the exploit folder. It's fine for playing the game, but you will have to retransfer the game every time you put something on the Vita by retransfering the exploit folder (like homebrew apps, another game, or whatever).

If you transfer with FTP you can skip that altogether by just putting games directly in the ISO folder.

Even if the files are named differently? Like say I transfer GAME1.ISO. Then later I transfer GAME2.ISO, will this overwrite the previous one if I don't move it? FTP speeds with my router are slow as heck unfortunately :(

It's not the name that matters, when you transfer the save file to the Vita it completely erases the old one. So any games or homebrew that was still in the exploit directory will have to be put on the Vita again.

And FTP is slow for everyone, but it's usually more convenient than transferring the save with Content Manager then installing/copying with CEF. Especially when you rip a UMD.

I see, makes sense. Thanks, didn't know that

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how FTP could be simpler than just transferring things wtih CMA. I guess it's for people with lots of stuff?

Because if you want to transfer something small across, you have to transfer EVERYTHING over. If you already have a few PSP games on there, adding an emulator with a small footprint would require you to transfer it all again, not just what you want on there.

I guess its because you need double the space to properly move things around with CMA. For example if you only have 1.5GB of free space and you want to transfer GAME.ISO which weighs around 1GB to your vita, you're left with 500MB of free space. Now after running the exploit, if you try to launch GAME.ISO, you will be asked to move it to the /ISO folder. This requires you to have another 1GB of free space left since I think what it does is COPY and PASTE the file to the /ISO path before deleting the duplicate copy from the exploited save directory.

I guess no one can answer this with 100% certainty, but since this is done through a save exploit, is it theoretically safe to connect to PSN? Tokyo Jungle's on sale right now but I have to sign in to set up remote play and everything.

I don't think there's really any risk of bans or anything at all with this. I haven't bothered turning wifi off or disconnecting, and I have used the store to buy a couple PSP games.

They don't really have anything to gain by going after people. Knowledge about these exploits doesn't even seem that widespread, and it doesn't really let you do anything that a CFW PSP can't do already (which they didn't ban for AFAIK). It would hurt mindshare and potentially turn existing owners off the device if they started doing that, and that's the last thing Sony needs to do with the floundering system.

Alright, so I have a PS Vita on 2.02 and Uno downloaded. Where do I go from here? All Im interested in is playing my PSP backups and maybe GBA (thinking its finally time to go through FFVI...) Also, I see a lot of people recommending OpenCMA and FTP stuff, but I have a Mac. What do?

Assuming you have an unpatched version of Uno (don't know if it's back up on the store) I wrote this the other day.

And there was also this more detailed response.

You can use FTP fine with a Mac, just find an FTP program you're comfortable with and you're good to go. Not sure about OpenCMA though.

Thanks for your help, chaosblade. Doesn't look too difficult. Ill give it a shot!

Is Uno still up in the store or was it finally taken down? Also, side question: once I install this, I wont be able to update anymore, right? Well, I mean, Ill be able to do it but if I do so Ill lose the exploit?

Uno was taken down.

And yeah, you're right about updating. If you can get OpenCMA working on a Mac you can still use that to transfer stuff to the Vita, but with FTP will work regardless. OpenCMA is also useful for PS3 until they manage to fix the version check loophole. Worked on 1.81 and the previous CMA version, not sure if it works on the latest versions.

Tokyo Jungle supports remote play?

I'm having issues with CPS2 and CPS1. Before y-menu, it kept deleting it after trying to extract it. With y-menu it does nothing after confirming installation. What am I doing wrong?

Can someone explain to me exactly what I need to name the files in order to transfer over the emulators via ftp? I'm having a hell of a time getting them to show up in the menu. I've read over the last two pages of the thread, and downloaded the proper versions. I just can't get the ftp way to work with the proper file structure.

If you are using FTP then the homebrew you are transfering doesnt have to follow the character guidelines (8 char max, all caps, etc), the file structure should be as follows:

PSP/GAME/<homebrew_folder_here>

No zipping and nothing, also make sure your FTP is set to transfer only 1 file at a time since files dont transfer properly when its set to more than one.

I think thats it unless I misunderstood your question :P

Thanks. I figured out what my issue was right after I posted this. The files I was downloading had a install.zip file i needed to unzip and put in the folder. The reason it wasn't working was because I had it still zipped.

So if I still have Gravity Crash from the last time but updated my firmware will this still work to downgrade again or just UNO? Also never got the FTP up and running is there a good for dummies tutorial on that? I assumed it was just like the PSP system ie create a folder structure and copy it into the right place but I didn't have any luck.

I struggled with getting FTP working as well. The easiest way I found was to download the multi-menu... thingy... from wololo.net, which has several menus AND the FTP included.

So, if they took UNO down, that means it'll be patched when they put it back up. How does that affect the UNO that I currently have on my vita? How can I prevent it from updating once they put the newer version back on the store?

The game won't be patched, but the new FW will prevent the exploit in UNO from working again.

Really?! Awesome. So I just need to be on the look out for the FW update. Without it, I won't be able to login (update trophies, etc.), but ehhh, it's worth the trade off for now.

I don't really think there's any point in turning off wifi. The Vita doesn't force updates (yet?) so you don't really gain anything by having it off, and you can't use FTP while it's off.

Gameloft games went on sale today, and among them, UNO for .99. The PSP/Vita version obviously isn't included, but what glorious timing this is. A big "F$%k you" from Sony, perhaps?

I know this isn't the case, btw, it's just funny...
