Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

There's a way for playing and going online with ofw2.02 without updating on 2.05.

Solution is in comment of the news about update on wololo website, don't know if I can link it or not...

The point is in editing some file and connecting on the net through proxy.

Oh, I think I know how to do that using software on the PC a few months ago. Bit of a fuck around, but good to know!

Yeah. 3DS has been hacked. There's a working kernel exploit for it, but it hasn't been released yet.
Then I guess it's not working very well... it's meaningless to make claims of this sort that can't be replicated by others; ask any scientist that says he's managed cold fusion... Any alleged exploit that is "unreleased" is nonexistent for all practical purposes. Therefore, the 3DS is yet to be hacked.

And Sony has made the Vita is far more secure than the 3DS tries to be...

If they manage to release a popular, practical exploit for the Vita that results in CFW on it before the end of 2016, ya'll can come crow "I told you so", but I'm betting that won't happen, and I feel pretty secure in that...

Just because they haven't released it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Supposedly they haven't released it because Nintendo can patch it out very easily.

You can choose not to believe it if you want, but I don't understand the gloating. If there's enough demand for it, it'll be hacked eventually. I wouldn't expect eshop functionality working with either system when it does happen, though.

I'm not gloating. I'm nay-saying the incessant "anything can be hacked" crap that permeates threads like this. What validity rests in the expression doesn't scale to amateurs working for nothing on hardware that's being locked down by big-moneyed corporates. The day of hacked-open hardware is dying, plain and simple. And let me be clear, I'm not particularly prejudiced for either side, merely cognizant of the issues and challenges involved, which is why I'm reasonably comfortable in asserting that the Vita will almost certainly never be cracked open like the PSP was...

Gosh this sort of thing worries me. I do love my Vita and want it to survive (commercially).
I think it's a bit late for it to survive commercially, sadly :(

Because there's no "service" battery. That was what killed the PSP. If they ever find a way to make third party memory cards or game cartridges (which isn't out of the realm of possibility... look at the DS) then it'll be as open as anything else.

As much as it's getting harder to bust open hardware, there is still yet to be a console released that hasn't had non-official software running for it (that should take into account things like the Megadrive and SNES, because you can't really say they were "hacked" in the sense we're discussing here) with the exception of the Vita. I have no doubt that it will run something along the lines of custom firmware within the next 12-18 months.

So has anyone been able to download demos through the proxy method? Even if I turn it off for a second it asks me to sign in. I just want to download the Sly demo.

If they would just put Tekken Dark Ressurection on the PS Store I would buy it instead of using the Uno exploit to play it. It was my favorite PSP game but playing it now on PSP just isn't the same. I need the Vita's screen.

if i update my vita to 2.05, will i lose the psp homebrew exploit with uno? i have uno installed on my vita and it works great. i want to transfer stuff from my ps3 to my vita, but its forcing me to update if i want it(namely ninja gaiden sigma plus from ps+)

Download Open CMA. This patch allows offline transfer for Content Media Assistant.

EDIT: Oh wait didn't read. You need to transfer from PS3-Vita. My bad. I guess the proxy might work.

My Vita arrived this morning. My System Info says I'm on v1.80.

1. I want to play PSP games on my Vita. Is there any exploit i can use now?
2. I also have PS Plus and want to play my free Plus games, like Uncharted and Gravity Rush. Can i transfer them without upgrading to 2.05?

What should i do?

Just a heads up, this stopped working yesterday as PSN now back-checks on your version as expected :(

Well to my knowledge all current exploit-games are pulled from PSN and have been patched before they were put back up so you might aswell update and wait for a 2.05 game to be released :/ The only way you could do it right now would be if you have a exploit-game already sitting on a PS3 or PC :(

I'm late to the party i guess, damn :(

But thanks for the info! I've ALMOST bought Uno from the EU Store, because i thought it wasn't pulled here!

I think i'll just update to 2.05 then and wait for a new exploit. Thanks again!

Updated to the latest version now. Enjoyed the exploit while it lasted, but I found that I wasn't using it as much as expected. Especially in comparison to the amount I make use of the online features/PS store.

Looking forward to Wipeout/Lumines on Plus this month!

I'm thinking about updating to the latest version, the only real reason I use homebrew is for emulators but since I have an android phone I take everywhere I don't really need it for that. The Buttons are nice but not worth cutting off being able to get the free games through PS+

Can anyone get plugins running?
I can't understand this for the life of me. I took all my plugins from the seplugins folder of my PSP, and moved them to my newly created seplugins folder of my Vita's PSP emulator through UNO. After that, I copied the same GAME.TXT file located in the SEPLUGINS folder of my Vita, and put it in the SAVEDATA>*UNO SAVE* folder.

Needless to say absolutely no plugins are working. All of the plugins that I want have the 1 beside the prx to turn them on. All the folders are capitalized (not sure if it matters).

I think the answer is no, but I'd like to make sure.

For new PS+ Vita/PSP games, I will not be able to transfer these to my Vita without updating, right? :(

Correct. You either need to update or get a second system for PSN access.

Yeah, I had to give up the exploit a while ago. Been too much good stuff coming down the pipeline. P3P & KK:BBS, we shall meet again...(thankfully saves remain on the system).

They need to start rolling out Gaikai early so that people have a reason to keep their firmwares official/unhacked. Anyone at Sony reading this?

I have a hacked Vita (well the eCFW) and the free games are making want to update. Yea its lame but I rarely use homebrew on it and my GO has the eCFW thing too so if anything, ill use that for homebrew. Dammit SCEA! (planning to keep it for PS4 use so i will have to update eventually)

As if Gaiki is a reason to give up the ability to play some titles they haven't put up on the PSN store...

The free Vita games for all owners can be obtained from the Media Go Store, that's what I did.

The rest (plus games) can be obtained from the web store.

I'm enjoying Tekken Dark Ressurection too much to update yet.

Opened MediaGo, I don't see the promotion anywhere? Does a Vita need to be activated on your account to see the promotion on MediaGo?

I've never used this software. I'l be able to transfer the games directly to my Vita from my PC?

If so, you are a Godsend.

I don't think there is any way to do that, unless eCFW can read the EBOOT file you download (IIRC, it can't).

Assuming the OpenCMA -> PS3 trick still works you probably need a PS3 as a proxy. Download from your list on PS3, "activate" the Vita for transfers using OpenCMA and switch to the PS3, then copy the games over.

Apparently you can also just convert EBOOT files to ISOs, but I've never gotten that to work.

About the free Vita games released yesterday, if I download them on my Vita and put them on my PS3, will they become compatible to transfer on a PSP?

No, but you can mark them as purchased so you can download them when you do update or possibly download them onto your PS3, I'm not sure about the PS3 part because I don't own one.

I'm necroquoting here but I tend to agree with this statement.

I actually wrote an article recently in my blog exactly on this topic, where I describe how security on modern consoles is much more beefier than it used to be.
Hopefully I am not breaking 10 different rules by directly linking to my blog here, mods feel free to remove the link if that's not accepted:

There is a large gap of tutorials on youtube (my go to for homebrew how-to) when it comes to getting stuff working on the Vita.

Does anyone have information on how to get PS1 images I've ripped to bin/cue working on either of the current/popular custom firmwares (ARK or TN-C)?

Also, what emulators are working on Vita at the moment? How would I go about getting Picodrive and Snes9x TY onto my Vita?

I'm debating getting rid of this now and just updating... there's really not a lot of incentive other than playing PSP games, especially with all the goodies that are coming with PSN+.

Someone said that Uno was likely the last game that'd work with the any kind of exploit... I think it was in this thread. Is that a possibility?

So if I have the newest firmware update I can't currently do this correct?

And now we play the waiting game.
