Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

Anyone remember the bombcast where they were talking about Antiques Roadshow and how it just turned into Pawn Stars?

The only thing I can find is 02-21-2012 which has Hoarders vs. Storage Wars in it.

Been catching up on the Truck Simulator QL, should be retitled QL: Dark Internet Diving.

edit: Holy Shit Euro Truck Simulator has a skill tree?! This shit's cray cray.

Yo, people who kinda want to play Euro Truck Sim, I'm also going to recommend Rig N Roll. Twenty bucks on steam, not on sale (for some reason the game is $20 in a bundle but $25 separately. The magic of simulation games!).

Here are my selling points for the game:

Yo it's terrible.
It has voice acting, and cutscenes.
It is set in the not too distant truck-future.
Your trucks go fast.
It has police chases and you can't lose the police but who cares just GUN IT.
I forget if it has three radio stations or three music tracks. The music is SO BAD.
Physics are broken but do exist. I don't recall ever flipping my truck and I don't believe they were quite as cool as Euro Truck Sim 2.
You can detach your trailer WHENEVER YOU WANT.
The invisible walls were less obnoxious than Truck Sim 2. It certainly has them, but I honestly don't recall ever running into them. Maybe it only has fences and stuff? I forget.
Much like Euro, the game is about taking jobs and driving for ages. It has a basic weather cycle, but isn't as well done as Euro. Whenever it became night time the framerate dove to less than 1FPS and I think happened every single time I played it. Developers were like "deal with it" so I just played the gamemode with static day/night cycle.

In summary, if you like being chased by cops in a truck going down bigass highways and detaching your trailer into shit and bad physics, you'll like Rig n Roll. It's the least simmy truck sim I've played, of the 3-4 that I've tired. I didn't actually ever try to play the game properly so I don't know if it holds up in the long term.

But the game lasted me 5 hours, of which I did a 3 hour livestream that I can't be bothered finding because I think Twitch deleted it.

Disclaimer: yo don't buy this game unless you're really bad with money.

I quit halfway through the Spelunky Breaking Brad to go to bed, but is there any way to scrub halfway through? It's premium so there's no Youtube link, it's not using the new GB player on the beta site and there's not Twitch stream. Am I SOL?

HTML5 allows you to go into the video where ever you want.

i didnt really enjoy bb spelunky, because from the start you know he is never going to make it. its only fun to me if brad has a chance do make it.

In the GotY discussions, Patrick said that the PS3 version of The Walking Dead didn't suffer from any technical issues. Did he pull that out of his arse, or has my game not installed properly?
As a mainly-console and not-really PC player, he seems to be much more tolerant of issues, combine with the statement being a solid bluff/ploy to further TWD's standing in the podcast deliberations at that time... and yeah, he basically pulled it out of his arse. :lol

We've had a lot of reports of bugs and problems and hitches in all three versions.

Knowing full well what Brad is capable of and how much time he has invested into Spelunky, a no shortcut run is absolutely, totally possible for him.

8 minutes speedrun... not so much.

So basically, he pulled it out of his arse. :lol

he also said far cry 3 ran fine on consoles.
yeah....

He actually wasn't that far away. The hardest part of that run is getting to the black market with 50,000 to buy the Ahnk. You can really fly through the Ice Caves if you have a shotgun, jetpack, or cape, since there's really no point to gathering gold at that point. Stage 4 is also pretty easy if you can kill Anubis.

I just finished Far Cry 3 on my PlayStation 3 and it run perfectly fine, the framerate never had a really bad drop and the graphics looked really good.

Considering the close relationship that GB has with Double Fine, do you think it speaks for the quality of The Cave considering they have barely covered that game & it is out this month(apparently), or do you guys think it is a Sega issue?

Not sure if this has been talked about ITT, but what happened to Ass Creed 3? How does it go from 4 star review, to most disappointing game? Ryan didn't even defend it one bit. The whole thing seemed bizarre to me. I don't care about the game, I just found that really odd.

What was that thing Jeff spoke about a few months ago that let you play retro carts on your PC? And I think saved the data off them too?

Okay. I am officially done with reading comments on Giant Bomb. It's over.

Any GB guys reading this, I don't want to hear any more bullshit about how GAF is terrible or we have a bad reputation or anything like that. Because this? This.

NSFHumans:

I fucking hate white text on black backgrounds. Thanks to your image I'm now practically blinded/have lingering rows of text in my vision.

and LOL that dude must be joking or something

The framerate in FC3 is pretty much always extremely low, which makes precise aiming as well as keeping an overview in battles very hard.

If you didn't even notice the very serious framerate problems in FC3, then you probably shouldn't speak on such matters as you are very insensitive to them.

Yeah, I don't know about their written reviews. Do they give extra marks for effort? Or give scores based on what they think their audience will think?

You get a much better indication of what they really feel based on podcast discussions.

haha, I play pretty much every game that comes out so I know what is a bad framerate and far cry 3 on the PS3 doesn't have a bad one when you compare it to other games that have this problem.

Yeah, I get that, but from a review to GotY perspective it just seems inconsistent.

FC3 PS3 runs at a deplorable framerate, it's irrelevant whether there are other games that are worse in this respect. It's still playable, but in no way as enjoyable as it could be.

It's probably Sega not doing marketing. That seems to be a thing with them.

My mac version had 0 issues. :)

He said he's never actually completed the game, so I don't see a no shortcut run win happening any time soon.

I fucking hate white text on black backgrounds.

If you're on chrome, you should check out this extension I made.

Nicer Inverter

When you click it on, it makes the backgrounds of all pages a dark grey and the text a lighter grey so that if you wanna read a page at night time it doesn't sear your eyes.

You obviously have never played any FPS games with a decent framerate.

To me the issue comes down to two things. Perception and personal choice. We take in stimuli, such as video game graphics, and then we perceive it, which means we judge it. Next, you make a personal choice, "is this good enough, is this playable, is this fun, does it look good?" I watched the Far Cry 3 quick look and theres no denying that I perceived the PC version to look better, and I know that it runs at a smother frame rate. But heres the thing I also played the 360 version and when I evaluated it, the game ran fine. Meaning all of the gameplay mechanics came across in a fun way, it looked good enough, it was smooth enough to where I could not perceive a deficit in the gameplay.

So then I made a personal choice. I know I am a serial gamer, I play a game once through and I move onto the next thing. I know Im a college student that cant justify dishing out the cash for a gaming PC. I know that the game runs well enough to execute all of its ideas, and that while the peripherals of the game ( the visuals, ect.) are better on PC it doesn't impact the final product for me.

To be fair, probably the reaction has most to do with the rest of the crew playing the game after the review.

That's exactly what it was. Shame on Ryan for not sticking to his guns. I mean, not one, NOT ONE good thing was said in its defense. Maybe the rest of the crew changed his mind about the game.

Ryan is pretty lenient with AssCreed in general, even thought he admits that the franchise has grown stale.

But the review has to reflect that sentiment, don't you think? You can't give 3 star reviews to Mario games, while equally shitting on AC3 but giving it 4 stars.

Yes you can since different reviewers reviewed the game. They all have their own tastes, you find what ones match yours.

I think it just means Sega's marketing team is still out on holiday break.

That's why I wish Vinny wrote more reviews. I find myself agreeing a lot of what he has to say. Patrick is also my go to.
