That they play what they like, and that's simplifying the situation a fucking lot, doesn't mean they suddenly become entirely unbiased about what they don't play, or what they do play for that matter. They spend a lot of time talking about all kinds of games and that has very little to do with that kind of a site it is.
I never said they only play games that they like, just what they are willing and interested in covering, even if it's a game they know they will probably dislike. You can see in several i love mondays where they show the games they have and they're like "we may cover this but who knows',

I don't think you guys get that they have stated several times since the genesis of the site, that they want to just cover the games they are interested in, shocking i know. They don't have to give a shit about any of the games or genres you guys are complaining about, that's why it's a personality driven site. Don't like it? Go to somewhere like ign or gamespot.

Well, that being the case why have an award for Multiplayer game?

If I am honest, your type of back up defense is more what I would expect from the GB community. It is healthy to offer criticism. Stating the areas of the site or the coverage isn't a personal attack to the guys. In my case, as I previous stated, I still enjoy it and will continue to visit, watch and listen.

Oh, and don't be fucking condescending telling others what sites they should go to.

The worst people for this are the Weekend Confirmed guys.

It's just so painful to listen to.

Thanks for the warning mate, but I've never fancied it.

Always felt that it would end up being an attempt to live up to the 1up Yours glory days. Still got a soft spot for Garnett tho;p <3

Would've thought he'd be knee-deep in the competitive scene, checking his... fuck, I've forgotten all my lingo. EV levels? Hidden stat bullshit? Fuck, I don't know.

Whenever they talk Pokemon on the podcast it's hilarious. Like the episode where they just said the names of random Pokemon, like Meowth.

Personal favorite is the one where they tried to remember the names of the games, and Vinny just kept naming random colors and minerals that sounded like a fansite's "my uncle works at Nintendo" list from 1999.

I'm watching the Spelunky Breaking Brad, and hearing Brad pronounce 'compass' as 'KOM-puhs' is the strangest thing I've heard on GB so far. I'm Australian, so I have to swallow my knowledge of how the English language sounds whenever I watch anything on the site otherwise I'd never get through it (I swear to God, Jeff says the word 'moment' with an L in it), but every now and then something's just too weird too ignore. Is KOM-puhs a Southern thing? Just a Brad-ism like 'hwhile'? It's blowing my mind.

BTW, everyone needs to try a TrackIR at least once in their lives. I bought mine after getting overexcited watching the Rise of Flight QL, and I haven't regretted it for a second. I couldn't go back to awkwardly looking around with a hat switch.

"CAWM-pus" and "hWhile" are both Appalachian, yes.

Executable.

DerISSSSSive.

Mark of the Ninja bored me to the point of dropping it with its "trial and (no) error" design. Stealth without the tension of being caught is a poor formula. Don't know if it greatly changes later on though.

It is pretty understandable why they'd like it though. I think the GiantBomb dudes are very averse to any sort of frustration to varying degrees.

FTL

Dark Souls

XCOM

Spelunky

They're slowly sweating out the toxins. Give them time.

I would love to see a chart that shows release date vs. game of the year rankings.

Honestly, if XCom had been released in January of 2012, it wouldn't have won GOTY. If Frog Fractions had been played a few months earlier, it wouldn't have even been mentioned, same with Space Team. Newness ≠ greatness.

They should do the GOTY stuff in February-March like the Oscars.

I tried to believe that but I think I'll just have to accept that nobody at GiantBomb gave a shit about The Darkness II.

MAN THAT GAME WAS REALLY GOOD.

Dark Souls wasn't exactly loved by the crew.

It's mostly Brad through his Breaking Brad feature that seems to be getting it more.

Jeff and Ryan seem to drop a game pretty much immediately once there's no instant gratification.

Alex really liked it.

Gaming sites don't do this, I imagine, because by Feb/March they are already busy covering new games and don't have the time for a GOTY focus. And game companies wouldn't like it since it would mean Q1 games have to compete with old games in the news cycle.

According to the latest beta update, Dave finished 999 over the holiday break and is now working on Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Rewind. I don't really know anything about those games but I know there was some excitement here when Patrick started playing 999.

Did anyone just fucking laugh at the beginning of the latest TNT with Brad?

I must have watched that part like 20 times. The fake playing with the controller, the quick look to the camera, the robotic hello.

I love the guy, but he is like the worst actor, which makes it even funnier. Like, his acting in the goty vids was fucking terrible, but also the best.

I thought likable friend Brad in the last GOTY video was perfect acting, for what they were going for.

You know two years ago we gave GOTY to a game released in January, right?

...right?

The next breaking brad better be that Winnie the Pooh game, i swear to god

Oh no, Brad wouldn't be able to survive that hell. He's no match for Christopher Robin.

Goddamn I love that Brad will drop by these threads every once in a while.

Also, anyone who thinks Xcom isn't deserving of GOTY hasn't played enough of it.

Fallen Enchantress was my GOTY. Don't think any of the GB guys ever played it, but I'm fine with that. It's a much better strategy game than XCOM even if it's not nearly as flashy.

I think Brad just needs a place to get his blood boiling. Old people need to do that you know, since bottling up that anger is bad for the health.

I can't imagine how bizarre this must be for Brad. I can't fathom reading through a full blown discussion between totally anonymous strangers analyzing my own psychology and idiosyncrasies using my actual real full name. Shudder
