It's as if Vaas Montenegro himself wrote that.

Same here. I think the only review Vinny has done is A Crack in Time.

He's done more than that. I believe he's done at least 6 reviews. Last year, someone did a full summary of all the reviews Giant Bomb had ever done, and Vinny stood as the only person to have his review score match the user review score on every single review he's ever done.

Okay. I am officially done with reading comments on Giant Bomb. It's over.

Any GB guys reading this, I don't want to hear any more bullshit about how GAF is terrible or we have a bad reputation or anything like that. Because this? This.

NSFHumans:

Eh, seems like he's trying a little too hard.

...fucks sake.

Oh god... OH GOD

I'm watching videos on YouTube of people playing PC driving games with track ir and a wheel. This can only end poorly for my wallet :(

It looks like so much fun...

I'm watching the Spelunky Breaking Brad, and hearing Brad pronounce 'compass' as 'KOM-puhs' is the strangest thing I've heard on GB so far. I'm Australian, so I have to swallow my knowledge of how the English language sounds whenever I watch anything on the site otherwise I'd never get through it (I swear to God, Jeff says the word 'moment' with an L in it), but every now and then something's just too weird too ignore. Is KOM-puhs a Southern thing? Just a Brad-ism like 'hwhile'? It's blowing my mind.

BTW, everyone needs to try a TrackIR at least once in their lives. I bought mine after getting overexcited watching the Rise of Flight QL, and I haven't regretted it for a second. I couldn't go back to awkwardly looking around with a hat switch.

that truckin video was amazing

its so annoying they are always complaining about how hard it is to set up a stream and things taking time and stuff and not having any games to look at, and yet Vinny, Brad, Dave, Axelis and Drew manage to create more compelling content in a week with no releases than regular GB did in a whole year without even having anyone in the control room, all while working on launching a new version of the site.

like even in weeks with no content they refused to look at never ded. they still havent looked at BKS. I'm pretty much 100% sure now that there is a dark force composed of Jeff and Ryan that are secretely holding back on producing content for certain games. Its like they know we need the stuff and they are witholding it to make us want it more and then slowly feeding it out so that they don't have to do too much work or something. I wonder are the management paying them to not create good content so that they don't completely outshine gamespot or something? that would explain why the big honchos of the site, Jeff and Tyan are holding back on content and then while they are away the regular guys blast out the shit with no one to hold them back.

that's a fucking crazy-ass conspiracy theory and you know it

it's far more likely jeff's just busy as shit. Been listening to the Best Of collection, he talks a lot about meetings with management and other crap he's got to deal with. He probably does a lot more than just sit around, play a few videogames and occasionally write a thing.

Executable.

My mac version had 0 issues. :)
well...
My Mac is below the minimum spec and I only had one crash in the whole game.
boom. Mac version crashed.

Issues in every version.
:p

And just for the anecdotal evidence record: my PC version never crashed nor did I have the save bug. aw yeah

He said he's never actually completed the game, so I don't see a no shortcut run win happening any time soon.
What I meant by that is that pretty much anyone can do a no shortcut run. It's not an amazing feat of dexterity. Like Dark Souls, anyone can succeed with knowledge of the basic rules, planning ahead and a lot of patience.

To be fair, he should play the Temple a couple more times to get a feel for the enemies in there, that would raise his chances significantly. Also have other people do the commentary, all the GB guys are notoriously bad at talking and playing at the same time.

Even the gamespot guy walking in towards the second half was a good help, I think.

There's a difference between a 20 minute QL and a 2 hour QL. QLs are getting longer and longer!
Yeah, it's funny seeing the average time creep up over the years.

But man, the truck QL is fun but I really don't want every quick look to be that long.

I got Mark of the Ninja from the steam sale and started playing it. Its pretty good so far but not quite the savior of stealth games these guys spoke of it as. It feels like any other stealth game, just with more aggressive checkpointing. Which I guess is all it takes to impress them

Hopefully it starts to pick up soon

It's no Euro Truck Simulator 2 that's for sure

Haven't you talked to funkystudent? Everyone knows that Jeff and Tyan are holding back on content until they receive another Skyrim statue filled with cash.

Seriously though: I don't think they can or should try to force videos like the truck sim QL. That stuff is so entertaining because it's just Vinny having a good time, with the right game at the right time, with the right people in the room. You can't "produce" that, it just sort of has to happen naturally.

While I haven't played Mark of the Ninja (nor do I intend to) the GB guys have a very low tolerance for sparse check pointing. They bitch about every game that mostly relies on hard saves. They generally don't even like games that require patience. (which most stealth games require)

I cant really relate to their opinions on stealth games. Or that of most of the press. Ive never thought stealth games in the past were garbage or just trial and error, so its really weird hearing Mark of the Ninja get put on a pedestal.

I don't really think the checkpoints have that much to do with it, its more that MotN is better than the majority of stealth games at informing the player of what the enemies can see/hear which stops the game being trial & error.

Personally I find it more trial and error than old games because there's no risk in dying. Its just easier to try something and see if it works rather then think about if I could get away with something

Is that grapple point too close to the guard? Maybe? Lets find out. Oh I'm caught, well now I know I should go a different way

Livestream QLs are always gonna be long, doing a livestream that only lasts about 20 minuteas would be lame. We rarely see normal QLs that long, thank fuck (and the ones that are that long are usually ridiculously long games themselves anyway, so it fits).

Sounds like it stops it from being a stealth game too if you know everything that's going to happen/can happen.

How is it not stealth if you know in advance if the guard will see you or not before jumping to a grapple point? It's the other way around, that's actually a LOT more stealthy than the traditional way of trial/error...aka getting discovered every time.

In theory that means that you could play through MOTN without ever getting discovered which is not possible if you play a trial/error game.

That makes no sense to me, if anything it allows you to use the tools at your disposal with confidence( thereby making any mistakes the players fault) which sounds like the mark of a ninja to me.

Because it gives you too much information. What if Mario put big dots on the screen saying, 'OK here's where the koopa jumps, here's where he turns. If you hit this box, you get this specific power up'. If games relied solely on players fault, we would just play pong forever. Even Dark Souls has a chance of spontaneity because not everything is told to you. Mark of the Ninja is pretty much the definition of what's wrong with 'streamlining'.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Have you even played MotN?

Watched that "it won't be archived" stream they did, showing off what Famicom games Ryan picked up. What a waste of 4 hours.

Pick a game and play it for 20-30 minutes, find another you like and repeat would have been better than seeing title screens and Ryan blowing on cartridges for all that time. Ryan got genuinely excited about that Dragonball game it would have been ace to see him play more.
