Why do the recent Basic starter pokemon look chibified. Look at Bulbasaur, that still looks like something you don't want to fuck with while remaining cute. Gen 1 and I guess Gen 2 they seemed to have bigger bodies minus cindaquil.

Nah, every gen seems pretty chibi-ish. Charmander clearly has a huge head.

This post made me incredibly sad because of how true it is. Especially this year. Mass Effect 3, Diablo III, and Hitman: Absolution never had a chance.

This is Pokemon, however. We know exactly what we're getting and it's exactly what we want - more of the same in a gussied-up package. They've been selling games with this strategy for years, and it works.

In all honesty I think it would hurt the series if they tried to significantly change up the gameplay or something to that effect.

Mudkip, Cyndaquil and Snivy are my favorites.

I'm really like this group though, as well as the legendaries. I have a feeling Fennekin is going to have an awesome line.

They stand out, because of their color. But yeah, they're awesome. :D

Fennekin>Chespin> Froakie for me.

All time starter ranking!

Grass:
Bulbasaur > Snivy > Treecko > Turtwig > Chespin > Bayleef

Fire:
Chimchar > Charmander > Torchic > Fennekin > Cyndaquil > Tepig

Water:
Froakie > Totodile > Squirtle > Piplup > Oshawatt > Mudkip

Kinda weird but when I first saw them I really liked all 3 of the new starters but the more I look at them compared to all the rest they actually started to rank lower and lower.

I always go with the Grass starters in Pokemon, so considering how amazing Chespin is looking, I'll definitely follow the trend with Pokemon X/Y.

Of course, I'll do what I always do and purchase both X/Y to trade for all of the starters as well as exclusive Pokemon/Legendaries, but even still, Chespin will be the starter I choose initially.

I agree. People say they want to mix-up the old formula until it actually happens. Pokemon's formula is tried and true. There are ways to better optimize the experience, of course, and always room for graphical improvement. But personally I hope X/Y play pretty much like the old games.

I don't know ho people like Chespin. Looks way overdesigned for me. How many different colours does he have - Green back, light brown body, dark brown arms, white feet, orange tail. Not to mention the flairs on his head, the weird thing he's got going on with his feet and his facial tribal markings.

Whereas Fennec has a clear and communicatable design, which I greatly prefer.

I'll rank as well.

Grass:
Chespin > Bulbasaur > Turtwig > Snivy > Treecko > Bayleef

Fire:
Charmander > Cyndaquil > Tepig > Torchic > Fennekin > Chimchar

Water:
Totodile > Froakie > Squirtle > Oshawatt > Mudkip > Piplup

Froakie above Piplup? Chimchar above Charmander and Cyndaquil? Terrible.

Not sure if posted here, but saw this on 4chan:

This is a wyvern (Y-vern):
Wikipedia said:
The wyvern (and its 'cousin' the four-legged dragon) is a frequent heraldic device on British coats of arms and flags, and a fairly popular commercial logo or mascot as well, especially in Wales and what was once the West Country Kingdom of Wessex, but also farther afield in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, as the rivers Wye and Severn run through Hereford and Worcester respectively.

European region confirmed?

This is a chital:
Wikipedia said:
The chital or cheetal (Axis axis),[2] also known as chital deer, spotted deer or axis deer is a deer which commonly inhabits wooded regions of Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and in small numbers in Pakistan.

Binomial name "Axis axis". Perhaps a reference to an X-Y axis?

EDIT:
Also, the [Greek] letter "chi" looks like this - X
Also, the name for Y in many European languages literally translates into "Greek I"

Perhaps it will be Paris + Mediterranean coast?

I think they're actually very good.

Looks like Chespin is this gen's Oshawott.

Gen 1 > 2 = 4 > 5 = 6 > 3

I'm sure you will all agree.

I just realized:

6 gens = you can make an all type themed starter team (if they're all in the game).

Okay, this is cool. All water for me.

Looking at this image, Gen IV looks fairly strong across the board, at least for the initial forms. May even be better than Gen I, if you try to factor out nostalgia. I was never a fan of Gen II designs, so maybe I was a "NEW POKEMON ARE UGLY" curmudgeon in middle school.

I'll do a stupid rank, since I'm doing it in my head right now anyway:

Grass: Turtwig, Snivy, Bulbasaur, Treecko, Chikorita, Chespin
Fire: Charmander (FOR LIFE), Torchic, Chimchar, Fennekin, Tepig, Cyndaquil (FU!)
Water: Squirtle (because, Blastoise), Totodile, Piplup, Froakie, Mudkip, Oshawott
