Hideki Kamiya shits all over Kotaku

Glad to see I'm still justified in never visiting that terrible site. Maybe not the best, most mature reaction from Kamiya, but when you're dealing with Kotaku any amount of shit slung their way is fine by me. The sooner it gets pulled off the web the sooner people will stop laughing at the idea of video game journalism.

Kamiya reminds me of an old man who doesnt give a shit about how people think or feel about him.

Life is too short and hes going to live it the way he wants to

may not be the role model we want, but it's the one we deserve :p

I wish he would take the high road, but seeing someone say whats on their mind is entertaining.

I don't know if he is being arrogant or honest ...either way Kamiya doesnt hold back

twitter is entertainment... you want a real question? Email him or send him a fan letter. He may take the time to write you back something longer than a sentence.

...maybe

They were rude and they were foreign.

It's not - not by sensible people. The only people who avoid it are people who have, in my experience, been yelled at by over-zealous foreigners who inexplicably take great offense at the truth.

And again, they were fucking stupid and they were foreign.

Calling someone stupid foreigner is racist and xenophobic no matter how you try to defend the douchebag.

The irony of a glorified gaming blog called "Kotaku" trying to explain the Japanese perspective to a Japanese person...I mean, what the fuck is that even?

Read the piece again, its still tabloid crap.

Oh, he apologizes for the negative connotation. Not the bullshit article extrapolated from a single person's casual tweet. The tone of that shit is just arrogant as hell. Hate Gawker.

...maybe

to be fair, kamiya gives legit responses on twitter all the time. its pretty interesting to find out how much he likes old school retro games, certain other stuff, and of course babes.

Then don't get so worked out from it.

oh no worries, the only people I'm annoyed at are the dudes that wrote the article knowing it's tone was shite, and luke for saying it was actually a good article.

seeing all these "holier than thous" (not saying you are) is certainly surprising. I think if they took the time to see the racist, death threats, PC Master Race hate spam, and Bayonetta 2 Wii-U tweets he deals with, it might give some context to his word choices and lack of patience and tact.

no one has to accept or approve of it, but certainly no one in this forum can relate to the scenario he deals with on a daily basis.

Oh, wow, Kotaku was extremely offensive here. They assumed that a Japanese/Asian developer didn't know about certain companies based on some random tweets, apparently (?) -- then proceed to discuss it like it's typical Japanese/Asian. Seems somewhat racist, even.

And yes, while the entire thing seems misinformed, writing "Clueless about Valve", etc. is unnecessarily rude -- they could have written, "Didn't know about Valve" or something like that, which would have been slightly less rude, and made just as much sense. Using the word "Clueless" instead of "Didn't know" makes it seem like they dislike the person they were writing about.

That's really my issue with it.

It would be one thing if Kotaku wanted to write a research/opinion piece on Asian gaming culture vs Western culture. But to take little things someone said, and ASSUME they don't know something, and then generalize everyone else in his country based on this assumption - is just really poor taste.

Considering that, I can understand why he was upset, and might have even perceived Plunkett's article as racist. Then again, I'm not really following this that closely. So I'm not really all up in arms over what he said in anger. I just know that in my view, Kotaku's article was disrespectful.

This is from the other thread. Posting it for those who may have missed it. Apparently Marcus Beer is so upset, he refuses to cover software Kamiya has developed going forward.

Kotaku has also independently written articles which are insightful and sometimes even well researched. Like their recent story on Silicon Knights. That doesn't change the fact what when we are talking about a Twitter flamewar between Kotaku and Kamiya, I don't think anyone should expect "human discourse between grown-ups". Lol.

I always expect it. Especially from someone representing a company full of adults. Maybe that's just me, but there's no good time to do what he did in public. Never. And if someone I worked with did that, they'd be gone the next day. No trips to HR for sensitivity training. They'd be given a box and shown the door.

Exactly, yet some people are calling Kamiya a douche for responding to them the way he did and glossing over the shit they implied in the article.

I don't even know who the fuck he is.

So good for you, Marcus!

Fucking Kotaku. This is just a shitstorm. I won't be going back to that website ever again, and I'll be urging everyone else I know who goes there to do the same.

Guess what, that is called Xenophobia, and is still bad.

What he did is not xenophobia. He regularly engages with sensible English speakers (and non-Japanese speakers of Japanese) and replies to them in a perfectly reasonable manner. He's obviously not xenophobic. He's pretty chummy with JP_Kellams who is a "foreign" staffer at Platinum.

He just hates dumb people. It also just so happens to be that all of the dumb people sending him dumb shit are "foreigners." He's using it as a descriptor here, and I don't think it shows any xenophobic intent.

It's really funny reading his twitter over the last hour and he's responding to english speaking people perfectly politely and amicably. Talking about everything from model kits to VJ. Probably because they aren't deliberately trying to rile him up. It's hard to demonize someone who seems so friendly >.>

I think the biggest problem is english isn't his first language and it's easy to misinterpret tweets in the first place.

You sound like somebody who thinks stack ranking is a good idea.

Kotaku's full of shit, and it is great/entertaining when they get called out on it, but there's always a point where Kamiya does too much. Even if it is funny.

I have no idea who he is, but that's pretty funny. If he thinks Kamiya's twitter posts are childish that's basically on the same level. Reminds me of those CoD and L4D2 boycotts.

Oh, he apologizes for the negative connotation. Not the bullshit article extrapolated from a single person's casual tweet. The tone of that shit is just arrogant as hell. Hate Gawker.

That is the worst part of this debacle for me, they changed some wording because they think it was too abrasive, but the rest is factually correct, which it isnt.

I hope that box doesn't contain feces.

There is other reasoning in the article besides the tweets.

i dont even, how can marcus beer stick his nose up to this kind of behavior when he himself is essentially the same way.

game journalism frauds really making themselves known today

Isn't this the same guy who agreed with the idea the industry is too easy on anything Japanese?

Also, doesn't he act the exact same way as Kamiya does?

sorry but have you seen the inside of a gamedev studio? most aren't exactly filled to the brim with hyper-mature adults. and you don't even take in account the position, or worth of the employee.

if they all followed your policy, employee turnaround would be insane. good luck firing that lead because he told you to fuck off. seriously.

Who the hell is Marcus Beer?

some entitled internet guy with a newly found cause/axe to grind/attempt to gain e-fame? the tagline of "annoyed gamer" certainly doesn't entice me to find out more.

Stop making sense, dude. He used the word foreigners, so clearly he's a xenophobic, racist piece of trash. Additionally, we must compare that word to nigger and spic, and Kamiya himself to Hitler.

Jesus. Just reliving some of the stupid being posted in this thread and the other one is making my head hurt.

I agree he is not a bigot or he is narrow minded. But the expression still came as xenophobic and he should know better. We should know better than that. All i'm trying to say.

But I agree in the head hurt.

What a loss...

Already tired of his fake internet personality shit. I stopped listening to Invisible Walls because of him. Too annoying.

well how would you guys react if a negative article about you is posted on the internet?

add to that

-people thinking you made Devil May Cry 2
-Wondering what the fuck is this midget power ranger on a gamecube
-copying wind waker and the wolf from twilight princess
-b(w)itch dante
-breaking b(w)itch dante disks because b(w)itch dante 2 (which was cancelled) is coming out exclusively to Nintendo

His tweets are painful to read. I always found coy derisiveness as an awful trait, especially for a public figure.

This whole thing is such a shit show though.
