Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Fancy graphics in video games is toxic for the industry. Along that same vein, the 720 and PS4 being graphical powerhouses are going to hurt diversity and innovation.

Meh, I don't see how these things relate. Graphics are great, but gameplay still has to be good for most people to care.

- Vanquish fails to extend the cover shooter and is not a good game.

- The controls in Skyward Sword don't work and break the game. (Wii Sports Resort worked fine for me and I'm usually compatible with pretty dodgy controls but SS kept losing calibration on the sword and such, making my attacks come from completely different angles)

That's precisely why I posted it...it's a controversial opinion I have that a lot of people on this board will disagree with.

Here's another one: 2000-2013 Nintendo >>>>>> 1990-1999 Nintendo >>>>>> 1972-1989 Nintendo in terms of games

I think FPS games are overrated and over-saturate the market with similar content between titles and sequels, despite how they've evolved the past decade.

I think Nintendo doesn't understand what its demographic is, and has met a huge decline of producing quality content, even with exclusives to its hardware. I also think that they will eventually embrace the mobile market and produce games 3rd party like Sega did. Maybe not soon, but eventually.

I think if SquareEnix does a FFVII remake, they'll drop the ball and it will be terrible. That's probably why it hasn't been done yet and they know it. We can expect to see it ported another half-dozen times, though!

- Final Fantasy is a pretty bad series of video games largely embraced by those that don't read books. Final Fantasy VI, VII, XII and Tactics are the only good entries in the series. The others could just not exist and the world would be better for it.

Not nearly as controversial as I was expecting from you, hell there's actually stuff I agree with here. But this one right here just shows me you've never played 5, the most mechanically sound game of the series.

I think most people agree that FPS games are overrated. I played Call of Duty..."Hey, this is the same as every FPS ever."

xbox live is worth every penny and ive been paying since day 1

Halo, World of Warcraft, and Final Fantasy VII are all mediocre entries in their genre that are only viewed as "greats" because they were genre cherry-poppers for many people.

Half-Life is a standard great game. In terms of campaign, it's just as great as Goldeney, Halo: CE, Doom, Quake, BioShock, and any other top quality shooter.

I honestly believe that after this round coming up, console generations as we know them will be a thing of the past. And that saddens me.

GAF should just take a break from Wii U and Vita threads as it's just the same crew of people arguing over toys in every one.

This isn't an opinion. It's a fact. The current Square Enix is not capable of delivering on something of that scale.

I think PC gaming is highly addictive and can ruin people's lives, especially if a person indulges in it without any supervision or a strong will.

Before buying a 7970 in Oct, I was on an awesome streak. I had passed all my advance math prerequisites with an average of 86%, I was thinking about future and more ways of improving myself. And then I got access to a lot of spare $$$, bought the GPU and my productivity has fallen by 90% or more. Games are way too accessible on PC (with a simple click), there are too many of them (Steam/Origin). I need to get rid of this GPU :/ as this isn't helping me in anyway.

Yeah it's not like they have already aced different genres and only released quality titles lol.

Sorry but it's true, Retro has yet to prove anything...
They made one great game (Metroid Prime) then made two heavily uninspired sequels (MP2&3) then took a Rareware game changed a couple of things and one of those things wasn't even well recieved (lack of Kremlings) and called it a day, the game is good but when you have a goddamn good formula it's hard to fuck up.
Call me when they'll make a good new ip game or when they will reinvent for the better an old ip again.

They are hyped as fuck only because it's the only western nintendo studio

I really don't see how people can game with the dualshock. The comfort level between playing with a 360 controller and a playstation controller is just staggering, nearly akin to the 64 controller in terms of ergonomics. I could never go back to it after playing on the Xbox for the entire generation.

More specifically, the gigantic budgets they require are toxic. But yeah, I agree. Damn I love looking at polygons and shaders, though.

The entire Metal Gear Solid series is bad. Most overrated series in gaming history.

Halo 4 is the best Halo game.

Mass Effect 2 is the best game of the generation.

Majora's Mask is the best Zelda game.

I don't like GTA...almost at all. The best part of GTAIV was seeing how far you could launch your car. Hated the actual concept and thought it was an easy way of appealing to juveniles.

GTA IV was boring. If it wasn't for the graphics, it wouldn't had one good review. GTA V will be the same, just in a different city. It's not even San Andreas, just Los Santos, which will be a California version of Liberty City.

GTA IV got too much money for them to ditch how "realistic" it played. I want this game to be good, but I just don't see it happening.

Never been a fan of Chrono Trigger. My biggest gripe was always the encounter system. What's the point of having enemies appear on the screen when 2/3 of the battles are unavoidable? I felt like every dungeon involved me walking into a room, my characters stop, and then enemies jump from out of nowhere. It annoyed me.

Also the world felt very small and lifeless to me, especially compared to any of the Final Fantasy games from that time.

But.. but.. Oscar-worthy writing!

My recent heresy is that SC3 is the best of the series. Strongest SP, most interesting modes, best training mode.

The kamiya worship is worse than any worship I've ever seen as far as gaming goes. Guy acts like a tool constantly on twitter and all most people can do is get starry eyed and wish they'd be given just a brief chance to kiss his asshole.

Kaz worship from some GT fans is even worse to me.

Let's see how many people I can piss off.

-GTA4 is a shit game, expansions are far better.
-RDR is super boring.
-Far Cry 3 is shallow and boring.
-MGS4 is one of the best games of the generation.
-Majora's Mask is the best 3d Zelda game.
-The Walking Dead is overrated, even though I loved the game.
-Uncharted 2, while a well made game and very pretty, is mechanically boring.
-I hope the Vita fails purely because of Sony's hubris. But I hope they don't drop out of the console race.
-Nintendo is the best of the Big 3 because they are wildly different from their competitors.
-In order to be a professional reviewer, you must be very good at most games and have the intelligence to articulate why they're good.
-Games as art: examples include high level play of Quake Arena, sick ass combo videos from DMC/Bayonetta, a complete 5v5 battle turnaround in a professional Dota 2 game, crazy Super Mario 64 speedruns (and speed runs in general), that Evo moment with Daigo and J. Wong. None of this pretentious Hollywood bullshit, just pure mechanical perfection.

1. DLC in general is crap.
2. We should be able to play used games on our systems.
3. ps3 fan boys are the worst
4. Piracy isn't killing the industry
5. Just b/c a celebrity plays a game doesn't make it news.
6. Dishonored is average, at best.

The Zelda games, while expertly crafted, are not actually fun to play.

These sorts of opinions always puzzle me. So; what about all the people who play Zelda and have fun? The millions of them? They don't exist? They're deluded and only think they're having fun, when they're really crying inside?

It's okay to not have fun with a game. But extrapolating that to "this game is intrinsically no fun" seems a huge overreach, when speaking about a game or series that plenty of people play and like.

Console games would be better if devs gave games high-end Xbox/GameCube era graphics and used the rest of the power for antialiasing and resolution.

To be honest, you wouldn't have to drop console games this generation back to Gamecube levels to engage AA, have good IQ and framerate, and run at 1080p (Or merely stay HD.)

As an example, Virtua Fighter 5 looks way better than any Gamecube game in most ways, runs locked at 60fps, with sharp AA and excellent image quality. And it's not sub-HD. We could have had games this entire generation that were superior to 6th generation graphics with good IQ and running at "full" HD.

The problem is that the industry is focused on pretty still shots and promotional material, plus some developers don't value things like performance and IQ over "impressive displays of technology". And to be honest, some developers simply don't have the technological knowledge to create good engines or make excellent use of a licensed engine even if the visuals in their game are mediocre.
