Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

The line of thinking going on in here is so poorly informed that it's impossible to respond to, not that it deserves a response. This thread is predictable enough that you could set your watch by it.

I had a dream I couldn't find nutella in the supermarket, but I've never even had nutella before.

Bet you didn't see that shit coming.

You should perhaps take that as an onus to better inform your fans, then?

Just to be clear, you're asking for an itemized list of everything we do day in, day out? Because that's what it sounds like. And that sounds like lunacy.

To those asking the perfectly reasonable question about the daily content line, it's a holdover from the days when four sites were providing premium material, not one. I don't know why it's still there, but the redesign will probably wipe it away anyway.

I agree that you don't need to tell people what should probably be taken for granted - that you're all doing your best, and obviously not twiddling your thumbs all day (I'd assume a lot of your time is playing games to prep for discussion). That, and it's a bit rude and weird to question what individuals accomplish at work.

That said, I think the "exclusive content every day" statement on the premium signup page should be changed. I'm pretty happy with gb's output, but it seems like a no-brainer to change a selling-point statement that's just factually incorrect. It bothers enough people to warrant altering it, I think.

If you think I'm prickly about this topic, stop for a second and ponder what it is some of you are implying, and the way in which you're implying it.

Who doesn't remember the great time at Whiskey when daily premium content was produced (I certainly don't, for most of Whiskey's existence a Premium subscription was barely worth the money)!

And still excusing this very clear advertising claim as a "hold-over" one year later just isn't acceptable. People have every right to be disappointed about not receiving what they were promised. And just a few days ago, you guys were even complaining about having to deliver your single "half-premium" show TNT: Apparently, you aren't able to go wig bowling because you have to play video games without much pre-planning on camera for 1,5 hours on Thursdays.

I don't know about him, but I'm stating very clearly that GiantBomb has been falsely advertising the amount of content included with a Premium subscription for a long time now. Either deliver on that promise, or remove the claim and add extra time or allow refunds as an apology to existing customers.

Dude, what was it like almost 6am there when you posted this, what the hell are you doing up that early on a Saturday man! That's just not right.

Really?

Do you think your $5 a month or $50 for the year covers the cost of wages, production time, equipment, etc.. for all these videos?

My local cinema costs £10~ per film thats $15 for 2-3 hours, I get that a week just in Quick Looks, TNT, etc.. times that by four and it all costs $5 a month.......

I pay to support GB as I think they are all hilarious, a small thank you from me to them to keep the videos flowing. I don't expect them to make lots of premium content but its appreciated when they do.

Videos don't just appear from thin air, they have jobs outside of making them.

Trying to get through DMC so I can post a review on time and also thinking once again I should just stay out of this thread.

Why do I have to care about the economics involved to them? They are promising daily premium content (which implies to me something new at least every work day). Most weeks, we get TNT (which is basically a free show), sometimes another premium show as well. Either they finally start delivering, or they scale back on embellished advertising claims.

netBuff, I think you're going way over the top here.

Absolutely not. What absolves GiantBomb absolved of any wrongdoing? I'm very happy with their content output, I'm not happy with their conduct.

Certainly not, but better communication about what content you're working on during the down times couldn't hurt anything. It's a common complaint that rears its head more often than fans and yourself probably would like.

How often do other sites actually do such a thing?

I'm not aware that releasing your work and content schedule is an actual common thing.

I respect the fact that you care, but maybe don't give the nonsensical stuff so much attention. Buy some nutella, put on the latest Justin Bieber song and just rockstar it out.

We could spend a bunch of time exhaustively detailing everything we might do in the future, or we could just get on with the business of doing it while you guys take it on good faith that we're doing everything in our power to make the site great. That's all I have to say on the subject.

I think what people are forgetting is that GB is a pretty small site staff-wise, and playing games for reviews and to stay informed must take up a huge amount of work time. Their content output seems very reasonable to me, and has been getting better and better.

Did you read the page?

https://auth.giantbomb.com/upgrade/

It says exclusive content every day, it says nothing about exclusive premium content.

There is at least one quick look per day, You get I Love Mondays, Mailbag, TNT, Bombcast, other live streams that are spur of the moment.

Some weeks there is zero going on in the world of games, no new games coming out, nothing worth quicklooking, some weeks there are lots of games to produce content about.

You pay to support them, if you are paying and expecting content you are doing it wrong.

$50 a year is worth it just for Brad and Vinny alone.

No. That site is very clearly talking about subscriber benefits, not general content output. Their examples substantiate that further. Regular content is not "exclusive" in regards to Premium.

And I'm a paying subscriber to support them as well, I don't have a problem with their volume of content. But as people regularly criticising other companies, they should bring their own claims in line with reality.

Not exhaustively, but for example, instead of not having a premium video this friday and having it just be empty and quiet, leaving people confused and disappointed, tweet out something, or post a short video just mentioning it and something you're working on? Just little things would probably go a long way.

Personally I'm fine with everything you're doing. Just trying to suggest ways to alleviate having this conversation literally every time there aren't a lot of games coming out.

I like you Brad, but you say this a lot, if you really think that less of us why do you continue to read and post here? I enjoy that you interact with the community here, but it is annoying to see you complain about someone being a dick all the time. Yes, there are dicks on the internet, and on GAF (and even your very own website), but they don't represent us or the Giant Bomb community at all.

I don't understand why you are getting all pissy about it, its a remnant left over as Brad has explained, they are a small team and probably slipped their mind to change it.

Personally I wouldn't bite the hand that feeds you (content).

It's just the fact that this claim ("daily content") has been brought up and criticised multiple times last year (and even beyond), but it's still on the site. GB can't get angry at people expecting more when they themselves set the bar that high.

The amount of content Giantbomb puts out is staggering at times, I haven't been keeping up for the past week and it feels like I have a lot to catch up on.

I've never seen a group of editors or personalities with as much output as the Giantbomb crew, movie sized quick look for a trucker simulator, three hour long podcasts every week, for Giantbomb to output more would require methamphetamine and caffeine IV's hooked to their veins.

You wonder why GB get angry when they have so much going on and you get entitled whiners crying at them because of some wording on a page that is left over from before they got bought out. It's not like they sit around all day looking at their bank balance and drinking the tears of whiners.

We are the people paying real money for their service, being entitled in this case is absolutely justified. Getting prickly as a content provider at customers not receiving what you promised them is something else. And if this claim was really "left over", why is it still there after multiple prompts to remove it over the years?

After the video's they put up for the game of the year awards I became a paying member again. I have never been so impressed by any game website over the years. Thanks for all you guys do and just know that asking for more is what people do.

Don't lump me in with you, please.

Just because you have a subscription doesn't mean you can dictate to them what you want them to do and expect them to jump and do it.

If you bought a subscription on the promise of exclusive content every day and you don't feel you are getting your $5 a month worth then reverse the charges and move on with life.

not sure who this rudds guy is (Kessler?) but its just the cycle, don't take it seriously. we have such a strong appetite for gb vids that its hard not to complain when there aren't as many as usual, and this is a good place to vent.

i don't know about you guys but i wasn't being 100% serious when i posted that the '20 minutes or more' quick look thing was illegal.

edit:also being resident GB anime/3ds editor, you should check out crimson shroud if you get a chance

I'm with netBuff on this issue. I love GB, actively consume just about everything they produce, but for the sake of remaining faithful to the small percentage of users who pay them for additional benefits, those benefits need to be accurately described. The argument that "it slipped their mind" is hilarious. They have a team of web developers, it would take one a few seconds to change "exclusive content every day" to something like "exclusive content every week" or whatever terminology they wanted to use. Just because GB produces unique and better content than competing video game sites does not excuse them from the basics of customer service.

It's very easy: Company not delivering on what they were promising = bad. As a consumer, I find false advertisement to be a big deal.

It's Brad.

To be fair it is blatant false advertisement at this point, I'm not sure really if that many people are arguing that they're not worth the money.

Like I said though hopefully it is rectified by the time the redesign is done, because they're obviously busy with that.

I must be missing something because I've just gone to account/billing and clicked all the links and even the gift subscription at the top of the page and I can't see that upgrade site?

How do you even get to it without typing the link in manually.

If its not accessible via a link on the site then its not false advertising.

As I've said before, I love GiantBomb and have been a loyal subscriber for years (I think my current subscription is good up to 2014). I find their perspectives and personalities to be very interesting.

But I don't have any respect for bad business practices, and this one is particularly easy to remedy.

Ah well, bored of trying to defend them now. I just hope they don't say FU and stop creating as much content as they do all because some people are crying over "false advertising".

This isn't some big conglomerate, its a small team running a site that I adore, it's like grassing on your mate, it just feels wrong.

They took the time to change the sign up page so it represents only 2 sites, they should have removed the daily exclusive thing too. Again, Giant Bomb doesn't need us to defend it here, by not changing it its becoming a bigger deal than it needs to be.

I remember when films were £10. Most of my locals seem to have accepted £14 as the standard now :( Thank fuck for online content.
