Jetpack was a must for me for a city of gold run. I think 2 of the 3 times I completed the normal game, sans-shortcuts, was with the jetpack too. Makes it a whole lot easier. On pc though so i don't know how the difficulty compares.

I'm pretty sure Whiskey as a conglomerate of sites never produced daily premium content either.

Netbuff, Christ. Brad explained exactly why the subscription page is like it is, and how it'll be remedied soon, but you have been moaning about it for 4 straight pages now or something.

We get it, duder. Seriously, let it go.

Jetpack makes navigating the Ice Caves so much easier. In fact, the Ice Caves are a lot harder than the last area (tomb?). Although I do love spring shows and a pitcher's mitt.

How about we all let it go with a collective "site's still good, but they should change that thing yesterday"?

Netbuff is right about the false advertising thing. But, In typical Netbuff fashion, he's also being a cock about it to the point where I don't want to agree with him.

The page should be changed ASAP and it should never have said what it says, not even in the whiskey days.

That said, i think it's crazy to criticize GB for the amount of content they produce, because it is and it always has been a shit ton of stuff. Like, more than most people can even watch, I bet.

Final point, bring back Matt Kessler because I miss that dude.

It does feel weird to criticize when I don't want to even consider moving my time to another site, but it also feels weird to keep my mouth shut about what seems to be a steady, long, (very) slow decline. I'm conflicted. I always believed the site would become better over time, and it certainly hasn't.

Sorry, Brad, but as a business owner myself, it seems kind of shitty to advertise "new subscriber content everyday" for almost three years and have it never be true. The blatant false advertising is one of the reasons I've never subbed. All you have to do is remove that line/picture and the problem is solved.

You never subbed because of that one thing? This is the first time I have ever seen it because I always subbed during the holiday sale.

Yeah the tombs aren't too bad because I found more often than not you get a pretty straightforward route through them to avoid all the annoying stuff.

In absence of a jetpack - springshoes + climbing glove + (optimally) cape is a pretty decent combo.

I watched the Multimedia Poker 95 Quick Look without realizing that it contained the infamous Frakes faces. My reaction was about the same as theirs.

I'm a climbing-gloves kinda guy. I think if there is another Spelunky video, they need to realize that you can ignore most of the gold in the game, the stuff you can safely collect along the way adds up. "Never put yourself in (too much) danger for money" seems to be a little life-lesson/theme behind Spelunky.

My strategy is usually to collect as much gold as humanly possible in the first 5-6 areas, then find the black market. If you can leave the black market with the ahnk, a cape, and buy bombs with the rest of the money you have, you are in a great spot.

It is inaccurate and it should be changed but I guess I assume that there was no malicious intent and I believe that Brad's explanation is the truth. If I thought they were intentionally trying to mislead members I would agree with the outrage, I just don't think that is the case.
The "Japan Raid" was only a front. Jeff is just going to pocket the money, fly to Japan, and disappear into the crowds. They'll find his collection of games on some episode of Storage Wars down the line and a clue hinting towards his location. After following his bread crumb trail all the way to the peaks of Mount Fuji, the GB staff will learn the horrible truth about Jeff once and for all...

PLEASE include a screenshot of them shooting the gun store guy as part of it!
I'll do my best, haha.

Brad, have you tried installing any of those PC games you guys got in the mail the other day?

Aww man, looks like I missed the subscriber promise discussion. I'm usually the one to get on GB about that.
I'm pretty sure Whiskey as a conglomerate of sites never produced daily premium content either.
Nope, I'm pretty sure there was never a week with a new piece of premium content (for all five days) since the membership's inception.

Also something else I didn't see anyone mention. That page that was linked earlier?

I'm 99% certain it was changed when whiskey split up. Pretty sure it used to say something to the regard of 'a new piece of subscriber content every day. So, a "holdover" from when there were 4 sites it is most certainly not.

You are absolutely correct, at Whiskey the ad copy used to read the following:

Exclusive Content Every Day: Whether it’s the occasional live podcast, throwback video game coverage or a spontaneous live show, there’s a new premium piece of content every day.

Even back in the Whiskey Media days, they didn't come close to new content everyday. Hell, there was barely any premium content at all that first year. They didn't start finally ramping it up, conveniently, until it became time for people to re-up those yearly subs.

hmmm my sub is ending in march... don't think i'm gonna renew. Makes more sense financially if I just sub for a month at the end of the year to catch up on premium stuff imo.

JFC are we STILL talking about the daily content thing?
Way to take a minor but relevant issue and overblow it to hell and back.

I'll probably take another stab at Spelunky before anything else, that was too much fun.
aw yeaaahhh

Try to beat Olmec in 4-4 first, with shortcuts. Then ramp up for a no shortcut run and only if you've done that think about tackling the city of gold and hell (Area 5). You get achievements for each one. :p

There was one point that had daily subscriber content for a while and that was when I signed up. The Amazing Test: Bricked! I miss Tested.

This discussion about GB's on/off output of content had me wondering what was the content output like in the early GB days.

During the Persona 4 ER how many videos were they producing a week?

They had TANG going. Quick Looks were not really a thing yet. I dont think they were doing TNT but I might be wrong. They did dumb things like the XBL shut down videos and the Matrix online series.

Boy I could go for another good ER. You know they will never do anything as bad on paper as the Persona 4 Endurance Run ever again. :(

I wonder if secretly the viewership for it dropped like a rock and thats why they never did another ER like it? Chrono Trigger ER dropped viewers pretty quick but that might be for other reasons.

TNT started in 2010 I believe.

Also while 2009 and 2008 there aren't a lot of quick looks from 2010, 2011 and 2012 their quick looks always hovered around the 340 mark (I think) with the average time going higher and higher.

There was a grip of subscriber content in 2011, plus we had the whiskey media happy hour before that. 2012 still had quite a bit even though my gut feeling that it didn't reach the levels of 2011.

I just find it mildly amusing that the easiest/most reliable way to find out about live streams is an unofficial Twitter account. Not sure how they expect us all to "officially" find out about things that are happening. Keep the web site open in a tab forever and ever so we can refresh and check the upper-left corner every hour? Follow everyone on Twitter? Just wish they'd come up with something a bit better. I have ideas (heck, we all do) but I don't think any of the guys would be interested in hearing or addressing it, which is kind of frustrating

I don't think Chrono Trigger was annny fun to watch at all.

I think stuff like Deadly Premonition, and Secret Phantasmagoria Endurance Run, are games that are totally enjoyable to watch from the start. They're dumb and kinda B-grade funny, and then when you have the GB crew riffing off that, it's great.

Which is why I think that Two Worlds II'd be a fantastic ER game. Yo, that game is hilarious in spots. That and Risen 2. Both are mechanically playable, but quirky in their own ways, the dialogue is awesome b grade shlock, and there's enough emergence there to not be bogged down by following a main quest, and kind of just mess around and have fun.

Or, y'know, sit Vinny / Drew / Dave down and go through every single one of those PC games they got, and release one video a day. /unrealisticExpectations

Best way would be an app with notifications when something is scheduled and when something starts.

E-Mail notifications as well as a dedicated Twitter account seem to be the easiest to implement and most universal solutions. They could also provide a Google Calendar (which everyone could view publicly and add to their personal calendar if they so choose to) with their schedule, TWiT does something similar.

I'm sure the most daunting part of getting videos of all those games would be the prep time. Installing them, dicking around with drivers and patches, finding ways to make them run at all, etc. Would be sweet if they had a dude behind the scenes that just took care of all that crap for them so they could just sit down and record a bunch of QLs in a row. If I lived in the Bay Area I'd honestly consider volunteering to do it myself

I bet people would watch Vinny, Dave or Drew dicking around with drivers. Live stream that shit!!!

Imagine a world where in your Preferences there was a section that looked something like:

LIVE STREAM NOTIFICATIONS
Choose how you would like to receive notifications about when live streams start:
[x] Send a text message to: ________________
[ ] Send an email to: _______________
[ ] Receive a DM on Twitter from @giantbomb
[ ] Receive a Facebook poke from Giant Bomb (not sure if this is realistic; don't use Facebook too much)
Also get our app from the iTunes Store or Google Play for live stream notifications!
Also be sure to follow us on Twitter at @giantbomb for live stream notifications!

Just dreaming. What would be really cool is if they had a 24/7 stream going that just showed recent or classic Quick Looks/ILMs/etc and then cut in with live streams when they started. Or even better, if it split into two channels when live streams started so you could choose to finish what you're watching before flipping over to what's happening live. Continuing to dream... Although I guess this is something that could also be done unofficially

With all the talk of Kessler in this thread... remember when we also got youtube videos from the interns? Lemon's Lens and Kessler Kam?

Remember things like the end of the Matrix Online, or Halo 2 on XBox Live, or Star Wars? Or that Star Trek beta marathon?

Even things like mailbags and how-to-build-a-bomb behind the scenes videos seem like they happened way more often than they do now.

The site's become too predictable... kinda boring, honestly. I'm sorry if it seems harsh, but I'm literally just having this realization in the last day or so about how much better it used to be.

I sure hope this Unprofessional Friday thing is going to be exciting.

And just a few days ago, you guys were even complaining about having to deliver your single "half-premium" show TNT: Apparently, you aren't able to go wig bowling because you have to play video games without much pre-planning on camera for 1,5 hours on Thursdays.

ouch
