I wonder, would GF ever consider linking currently existing Pokemon together? Like, in gen VI Luvdisc can evolve into Alomomola?
Just a (probably stupid) thought
I still think Tauros should evolve into Bouffalant

One is a bull and the other is a buffalo. They don't go together.
Furries. They make no goddamn sense.
Well, not all pokemon are gonna be metagame useful or can be for that matter, or have to be in such a series. Some pokemon are just there to be funny or interesting or fun to collect.
read above.

bull into buffalo is tame in comparison.
Also Joltik goes from tick to tarantula.
Mew should evolve into Meowth because Mew is a cat fetus.
and why is that a bad argument?Thematically they make sense - gun to cannon. Tauros and Bouffalant (as well as Luvdisc and Alomomola) is just going for "they look the same" aspect.
Also Joltik, despite its name, is based on a jumping spider.
I can't be the only one who sees it.
Farfetch needs to evolve into a platypus with katanas

Hmm, actually, if you justify the evolution in terms of its weapon (much like Remoraid to Octillery being like gun to cannon), I think they can overcome the whole "uselessness" schtick.Farfetch needs to evolve into a platypus with katanas
facetiousness aside there's an at least logical explanation why that shouldn't happen - mostly pokedex entries and lore in-game.
double entendre pokemon are fine, because it is interesting or humorous, but things like obvious evolution choices introduced as stand alone primary evo's looks lazy or forceful as to not include previous gen pokemon into a game set around having ALL NEW pokemanz.
and why is that a bad argument?
Well both are sharksHmm, actually, if you justify the evolution in terms of its weapon (much like Remoraid to Octillery being like gun to cannon), I think they can overcome the whole "uselessness" schtick.
EDIT: Oh shit, you guys just ruined Sharpedo and Garchomp for me. This is like Venonat -> Butterfree all over again.

There are a bunch of solo evos like Skarmory and such that still work without evos.
And again, people pointing out the discus and the bull evolving into a mola-mola and a buffalo are the ones forcing it in the first place.

Skarmory is fine. Pokemon that don't evolve are fine.
So why do Tauros and Luvdisc have to evolve just because there are Pokemon that look similar?
A lot of animals in nature look similar. Pokemon look similar.

It just looks like obvious back room development politics drove the idea down.
"Sorry Steve, Big Boss said this game's National dex has to be all new pokemon. We can make your luvdisc and tauros evolutions stand-alone though, that cool."
"Yeah, w/e Bob. At least I know what they were really drawn up for..."

'Forcing'? I genuinely thought they were new evolved forms until a bit earlier in this thread.
Sure, that totally makes sense ... if not for the double helix in the logos for titles named after the most well known set of chromosomes. It's more likely that they're based on the X and Y axis, which is how we drew the conclusion for Z; Referring to the Z axis.
Who's to say they aren't pulling from multiple influences, both for the legendaries and for the names of the games, I doubt they didnt do X and Y based on chromosomes AND the axes especially since we have a sky based "Y axis" legendary and a land based "X axis" legendary. Both legendaries clearly arent an "eagle" and "stag" straight from the norse mythology either. so yea.
Alomomola I can agree (I also thought it was a Luvdisc evo) but I didn't get that feel from Tauros.
I think that's probably true by the fact that Hitmontop was one of the GS Pokemon that were originally in RGB but were cut out of the game. They did it with Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee, but you could argue that they were always intended to be related.
Don't you think it's a little curious that Xerneas is not only a stag, but a stag with four types of gemstones in its antlers, one for each of the color gemstones the Yggdrasil stags had (red, blue, purple and yellow)? And don't you think it's a little curious that here we have a mythological stag Pokemon paired with a mythological bird Pokemon... Which myths pair a stag and a bird? Only Norse mythology. There's a connection. It's the eagle. Very stylized and more monstrous, naturally, though it still has the head and collar of an eagle. That doesn't mean it can't be part-Dragon, or borrowing cues from European wyverns. But I think the details in Xerneas make the Yggdrasil connection explicit, and its pairing with a bird monster seals the deal when it comes to what they're supposed to be. All of this, IN ADDITION to the fact the XYZ axes play specific roles in the Yggdrasil myth.Sure, that totally makes sense ... if not for the double helix in the logos for titles named after the most well known set of chromosomes.
Y is very easy to see "flying creature" in.
And no, I actually do see "Fancy, mystical stag" when I look at Xerneas. When I look at Yveltal ... I see a Dragon. And I think that if they wanted to make something based on a eagle they would just make a cool looking eagle and not a Wyvern. Nether one is "clearly from norse mythology" as there are other possible mystical Stags Xerneas can be and between the 2 Xerneas is the only real link here.

So I just had someone offer me $50 for my DS Lite... it is still on ebay, in a bundle with White, for 3 days. I start the bidding at $40 with a buy it now of $70. There are 3 people watching it, which leads me to believe they will fight over it at the last minute....
I told the guy I had to think about it. What do I do?

Farfetch'd is wandering around town, wondering why it's so useless. He walks past a weapons shop and decides to go in and take a look. The owner is out back, so Farfetch'd takes 2 katanas and makes his leave.
But just as hes leaving, the shop owner comes through and spots him. The owner chaces him throughout town, so in a desperate attempt to escape Farfetch'd dives into a river. He turns into a platypus and the katanas fuse with his wings.

ok ,then how bought this being on the 3ds, first mainline attempt at 3d pokemon , the japanese titles being 3D-ied unlike any other pokemon logo, is that enough for people to see the "axes" reference along with the obvious chromosome reference and posit that there may be a Z-axis "depth" pokemon? At the end of the day It probably isn't either or .Y is very easy to see "flying creature" in.

Just like Charmander. Agreed.
So Farfetch'd becomes a Skarmory?
Is it time for starter lists ? I think it's time.

Is Skarmory a platypus with katanas? Or an ugly metal chicken with fans?
