Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

Regarding live stream notifications, if you don't use twitter there is another way. Download the Twitch phone app and follow the GB accounts. You'll get a push notification whenever a live stream starts.

I really miss Happy Hour. *sigh*
Nah, no you don't. You miss the odd segment every few weeks that was actually funny - like Creeper Jeff.

I tried to do that but the Twitch app doesn't let you choose to only receive notifications about Giant Bomb. I follow a couple people on Twitch that stream all the time and I got tons of notifications about them as well, so I had to turn it off
Then unfollow the ones you don't want notifications from. There's no real point to Twitch following other than notifications. Its not like it stops you from watching them.

With all the talk of Kessler in this thread... remember when we also got youtube videos from the interns? Lemon's Lens and Kessler Kam?

Remember things like the end of the Matrix Online, or Halo 2 on XBox Live, or Star Wars? Or that Star Trek beta marathon?

Even things like mailbags and how-to-build-a-bomb behind the scenes videos seem like they happened way more often than they do now.

You do know the end of mmo's and how to build the bomb are incredibly circumstantial and are in no way something that can be shown regularly right? Even the star wars one is still pretty recent.

We still get a lot of mailbags, and even that is dependant on the users and not something that can be a regulars feature.

Also I'm honestly glad subscriber content evolved from happy hour to what we have now, we just need a more consistent output. RPG and breaking brad are easily the best content they've made since the endurance run.

But the twitch app is awful with discovery so if I don't already follow the people then I can't find their channels. Case in point, the speed run marathon going on right now: I typed the full exact name of the channel into the search field and it gave me zero results. Plus you're basically telling me it's my problem and I'm not accepting that :)

I sure hope this Unprofessional Friday thing is going to be exciting.

Well we just had the Wii U launch videos, the SNES stuff, and all the goty.cx content. The MMO stuff will totally pop up again, we just gotta wait for something to die. How's Conan doing? Or Rift? Or Aion?

And I bet we'll get a giant end of generation stream at some point this year. Something where they just play through every single major 360 / PS3 release in order. Go from like, PDZ and COD2, hit some highlights like Crackdown and Viva Pinata, something like how they did the Famicon playthrough. That'd be awesome to watch.

I do kinda wish they worked out some way to kill the overhead when it comes to production, though. Because this thread goes to weird places when there's delays between content.

also syndicate isn't a very good game

Yeah, I do know that.

City of Heroes went offline recently. When people got a big smile on their face and said "oh man, I can't wait for the Giant Bomb coverage" the guys themselves said (I don't remember where... podcast probably) "yeah, we should do something with that." Then, when the day came, and no plans were made and nothing happened, it was explained that everyone had personal lives... even though we knew this was coming for months. That opportunity is gone now, by the way. It's not like a weird NeverDead Quick Look that can be done later.

They also moved into a new building last year. They did produce some content, but I did feel it was lacking.

I too like the switch from Happy Hour to what is supposed to be the current format (even though I did not dislike Happy Hour), but they're not delivering on that anymore. Did they even produce any Premium content last week? I know they didn't deliver anything on the promised day of Friday...

Ahh, fair point. I only ever use the app for notifications, never for viewing (too much lag), so I can imagine sifting through its terrible menu system isn't any fun at all.

Saying Fluidity is a DSi-shop game ported to the 3DS as a reason it doesnt use 3D is kind of crazy because

a) DSi didnt have gyros
b) it doesnt use 3D because there would be no way to keep in the zone as your spinning the 3DS around

Yeah, just started watching the QL. The game looks great and seems to have some great physics. Calling it a DS port seems unjust and uninformed.

Patrick just completely bullshitting there.

I would have liked a Brad/Patrick run. But it doesn't really suit the way they play games, I think.
Especially since Brad is saving it for only when he needs to fly. lol

Maybe when they go for THE RAID, Drew could point a camera at Brad while they're on the plane.

E-Mail notifications as well as a dedicated Twitter account seem to be the easiest to implement and most universal solutions. They could also provide a Google Calendar (which everyone could view publicly and add to their personal calendar if they so choose to) with their schedule, TWiT does something similar.

Doesn't TWiT have like....40 people on payroll?

What it sounds like you really want is for Giantbomb to fully reintegrate with Gamespot.

You are absolutely correct, at Whiskey the ad copy used to read the following:

Does it really even matter? Why are you getting so bent out of shape over a video game website? Instead of big 3 hour live streams or Vinny, Drew and Alexis playing Euro Truck Sims you'd rather that we make them pump out shitty 15 minute videos each day just so they can say they are? Quality over quantity. And who the hell would even have time for that kind of content every day? I go away for like 5 days and have 8 hours of videos to watch.

My proposal is swap TNT for premium content. Make premium content happen EVERY Friday and make TNT the one that if needed is skipped that week rather than the other way around. TNT can be good sometimes but I'd much rather a premium video simply because I like them more.

Nononono, clearly the only cause of action is to shut down GiantBomb for this egregious infraction of false advertising. There, problem solved, no site means no false advertising. Make me a CEO.

I hope you like being the CEO of nothing, because I'm going to sue them so hard they'll have to sell everything they own. False Advertising? Feh!

I don't think they ever said that at all, actually. People just assumed they would cover it based on previous MMO closures. The staff definitely weren't aware it was happening months in advance.

You are 100% missing my point. Brad and other GB staff can't getting angry at people in here complaining about a lack of Premium content when they themselves are advertising daily content at the same time.

Taking this to ridiculous extremes still doesn't change the fact that they are presenting a false promise to every user.

As a subscriber, the only thing that pisses me off is when some of the crew, mostly Ryan, always exuberantly says "There is absolutely nothing releasing next week". I don't really give a shit about that. You can use that time to do a lot of cooler older stuff I am assuming just like how the week that "NOBODY WAS IN!" turned out to be better than pretty much any week when they are all there.

But if nothing is out, how are they gonna do a TNT of 'generic multiplayer shooter of the week'?!

Did they ever do a TNT of Ace of Spaces? That'd be so great. Not, um, Steam ace of spaces. Whatever the game got renamed to. Jump And Gun or something. It's free, supports something like 32 players, kind of like World War I crossed with Minecraft. Where you spend half an hour digging trenches and setting up forts, and then a hacker comes along and spawns infinite grenades and blows the entire map up because the entire map is destructible.

Also, voxels. Voxels are awesome.

... oh, it's called Build And Shoot now.

This is the weakest argument. It's a business like any other; that's like asking "why do you care so much about a game" if you bought the PS3 Skyrim and it doesn't work. We care because it's a site we enjoy, and some of us pay for, and we don't think they're living up to their own expectations.

Funny that your example of a thing that would be cut (Euro Truck) to make room for Premium Content came from a three-day week, with three of their four editors out. Yet they somehow still managed to do Euro Truck, TNT, and Premium content with Breaking Brad.

And no, I think everyone who is bothered by the "Premium Content Every Day" over-promise are all in agreement of how it should be handled - take the ten minutes necessary to change the line.

Now all we need in addition is a short-lived "The Truth About GiantBomb" tumblr by a disgruntled ex-staffer and the internet will be complete.

Brick-Force? I heard Brick-Force is essentially the same thing as Ace of Spades, but 10x better and came out first.

Watching the Fluidity quicklook.

I have watched the beginning twice now and have still not figured out how they convinced themselves it was a DSi game. Patrick is so sure, like there's not even a second of hesitation about it.

I pay for it too since day 1. I just hate this shit so many GB and gamers in general get so bent out of shape over. They'll pay $60 for a game, $1500 for a TV, $300 for a console, $800 for a PC, and then get furious over $5 because they aren't getting 100 hours on content a month. Could it be a bit more refined? Sure. But look at this this way. In less than 4 months we've had over 32 hours, 41 minutes worth of premium content, excluding TNT. It's hardly bare bones.

Oh God, Brad, please get the thing changed so this thread will move on! I'll even take CreepyGB-GAF over this! I'll do anything. ANYTHING!

I say as payment for that text still being up they all have to install webcams in their homes. We can see how Jeff's endurance sheets hold up and let Vinny know when the babies hungry. The toilet and bedroom webcams are for premium members.
