I think the Yakuza series is the closest thing to Persona or Deadly Premonition you are going to get. A lot to play off of there, both in the super dramatic main storyline and some wacky side quests. They might dig it too (they are good games). On the other hand if you want to talk about them having to endure...
Dark Souls
. I don't care to nag them about it, but those two are clearly the best choices. Pokemon on the other hand would just be dull. There is so little to react to there.

Jeff mentioned doing Yakuza 3 as an ER to Vinny. But it didn't pan out.

The problem with ERs is that if you find that if you don't like the combination or the game or whatever, that's a lot of wasted content for you.

I'll also say that I fully support them waiting until the time is right for one, because I really think they're something that can't be forced.

I can also see them never doing them again due to CBSi legal, because I'm willing to bet that they'd have to go through a lot more hoops to do one than they did before.

That would be pretty cool, except the part about Policenauts needing a fan translation patch which could be legally grey.

Getting an English copy of Snatcher would be more of a problem. I guess they could know people who have it.

I don't think there would be any issue with Policenauts. It's not like Konami cares about it.

:(

Not really. A quicklook (usually) comes out when other gaming sites are covering said game. That and we usually don't see more videos of a game after a quicklook (not counting TNTs and other nonsense). However, an endurance run can last for months after other sites have stopped covering the game.

So when a developer starts hyping endurance run videos on daily/weekly basis it just seems like a bit of a conflict of interest even though there is nothing malicious going on.

That seems like an arbitrary place to draw the line. Almost everything about what they do toes the line of informing consumers about a game while also being an advertisement for it. From the beginning they've always had the attitude of 'if you don't trust us, find a site that you do and read that' when it comes to this kind of stuff. It probably looks improprietous to some to have guys from Doublefine or Harmonix on their site as much as they do, but they generally don't care about that and just try to entertain their audience.

Where did he say this, by the way?

Pokemon doesn't have interesting dialogue. And the combat's not exciting.

I think Pokemon might be the worst possible choice one could make for an ER.

No one seems to agree with me, but a Brad/Vinny Endurance Run of REmake on the Wii or GameCube would be brilliant. And while it wouldn't be nearly as long as the other ERs, it would be long enough. This suggestion is obviously predicated on the idea that neither of them have played it.

Make it Brad/Jeff/Vinny to change the format up a bit. Spelunky QL makes a good argument for having Jeff around when Brad is playing a difficult/frustrating game and Vinny is just a lock either way. Plus then it's two RE5 lovers versus a hater to add some outside perspective when comparisons and "what happened to this franchise" discussion inevitably occurs.

Persona 4 ER was lightening in a bottle. You couldn't recapture the indifference that slowly becomes an enduring love for a game the same way that makes the P4 ER so special by simply proposing a similar title. Anyone that thinks otherwise that would only end up being disappointed. Different is always better than failing to live up to more of the same. ER's shouldn't have to always be about some "quirky" Japanese game; Chrono Trigger shows the cracks in that ideology.

Aaaaauuugggghhhhh... My brain feels like it is melting. So much BladeRunnering.
Here's a walkthrough of all of the stuff they've done in Blade Runner so far, without the being lost parts.

"HD" versions

"SD" versions

Some things they might look into from when I was watching-
  • Check out the Tongue Bar (across from the Q Early)
  • Maybe try to get into Q Early's office again?
  • There might be more dialogue for the Kingston lady (don't know if it's important)
  • Maybe try asking the dancer (Dektora) more questions before the test? Just to see? Please? : D

I'd like to still do a "tl;dr" version of these, but I don't want to think about Blade Runner anymore, for a little while...

Get me a hard copy of that.

Literally any open world game allowing shenanigans would be good for another endurance run.

Shenmue, any GTA before IV, Mercenaries, Just Cause, Prototype, Stalker, Yakuza.

Would all make for good ERs.

Well, Yakuza doesn't allow for "shenanigans" like those other games (then, neither does STALKER really).

Well, not in that way, but Yakuza does have some silly stuff with karaoke and hostesses etc. Stalker has a serious tone but there's plenty of humour to be found for commentators in its Russian/Ukrainian quirks. (Get out of here, Stalker!)

Also, Vinny will find the right stuff in every open world game. Just let him loose.

Typo, you're nuts man. Good work.
Looking over it now, the grammar is dreadful.
Also, look at all them typos... Need to fix this later.

Now, I just have to hope they do it soon, so I don't forget anything. I can't watch them again... Not for a while.
It was funny checking some of the gamefaqs stuff, just to be sure they weren't missing anything imperative, because every dialogue option Vinny suggested were the ones being warned against. Oh, Vinny!

I don't want them wasting time on endurance runs. Never saw the appeal of the two they did.

Much prefer them doing quick looks of indie games or stuff like Euro Trick simulator, and Random PC game segments.

I said it before and Ill say it again.

They should boot up PlayStation HOME. I want to know whats going on in there but I really cant be assed downloading it.

Get me a hard copy of that.

Be sure to PM it to Vinny, Drew and Dave. It would be a shame to see all that work not be used to catch them up when they finally decide to go back to it.

With all the talk of Kessler in this thread... remember when we also got youtube videos from the interns? Lemon's Lens and Kessler Kam?

Remember things like the end of the Matrix Online, or Halo 2 on XBox Live, or Star Wars? Or that Star Trek beta marathon?

Even things like mailbags and how-to-build-a-bomb behind the scenes videos seem like they happened way more often than they do now.

The site's become too predictable... kinda boring, honestly. I'm sorry if it seems harsh, but I'm literally just having this realization in the last day or so about how much better it used to be.

I sure hope this Unprofessional Friday thing is going to be exciting.

I think the podcast got revitalized after they dropped the nintendo downloads update, they changed the format a little, and Patrick was added to the cast.

But I agree somewhat with the videos-- I think the thing is Whiskey just felt a lot bigger. I like Bombastica though.

I think at some point they are going to need to get interns again if they want to pump up their volume of output.
