I like his new way of talking now.
An innovate communication system that will make you feel connected with
players from around the world as you play the game.
A new battle mechanism that allows your Pokémon to become even more powerful
when the bonds you share grow stronger.

New stage of evolution?
Yes. It'll be the new emboar :/
But hey, maybe not, there's still hope.

Nah more like addition than IV/EV Trainings...
Anyone think these points mean anything?
Anyone think these points mean anything?
I get your point. My point is that "bond" battle mechanism is "hidden stats" like IV/EV mechanism. I do not know how to explain because it's difficult to say how Bond work in some way like IV/EV trainings. Sorry if I was not clear enough.I thought something was said like IV/EV will be simplified.
But what about a trainer skill? Like in Heroes of Magic where your hero can buff your team? that could be cool. The skills would be learn by fulfilling some coditions, like "defeat xxx pokemon with a dark move" -> "Your dark pokemon get +x charac points"
Why do you have to buy ds in anticipation of this game? 3DS play ds game too and Pokemon X/Y are exclusive to 3DS.Some of those starter evolutions excite me. I'm still planning to buy a ds soon in anticipation of this game. Does anyone know if you get club nintendo points for the games installed on the 3ds systems in the bundles like the flame red 3ds Mario bundle?
Anyone think these points mean anything?
I've been theorising since the press release came two weeks ago that it's possible that now they're going to include happiness in some sort of attack damage calculation. This could be a massive change to the entire battle system.
I actually meant 3ds, not a ds. Which is why I then asked about the 3ds bundlesI get your point. My point is that "bond" battle mechanism is "hidden stats" like IV/EV mechanism. For the single-player experience maybe, but it's unlikely to change competitive battling in any significant way if it's just another multiplier being added onto the damage calculations. All that would result is that everyone involved in competitive battling would only battle with Pokémon that are at the maximum happiness level.
Just like they battle with max IVs even though we're not meant to have pure flawless Pokémon. People will always ignore the new mechanics that create deviation and will just attempt to go for maximum of everything. You know this as well as I do
"we're not meant to have pure flawless Pokémon"? If they didn't want people to be able to min/max their stats by careful breeding, there's plenty they could have done to stop that. Their failure to do so, while at the same time demonstrating awareness of how people use these internal mechanics through NPC's like the stats judge, suggests that they have no issues with people min/maxing whatsoever.
I'd be much more excited by something that made the process of getting the necessary IV's for competitive battling require less intensive breeding. For instance, they could make it so Pokémon's IV's are no longer permanently set when the Pokémon is generated by the game, but rather that they can change and increase in response to Happiness levels, and that you can in some way focus the development of these IV's similar to what can already be done for EV's.
While they may not have a problem with it, it is by far not their intent and you know this as well as I do, Liam.
Neither you nor I know their intent here, we can only make assumptions. For either of us to start believing our assumptions are fact would be sheer hubris.
Looking at some of what they've done in the past two generations, I believe (but cannot be certain) that their intent may be to make competitive battling more accessible to "normal" players, so that PvP is more based on skill than on the ability and free time to grind. Allowing IV's and EV's to be more easily manipulated (without the need for long tedious breeding and training) would go a long way towards that. Sure, the "normal" players would still need help, and it probably wouldn't be in the manual, but hey, that's what sells strategy guides.
Now what you've raised here, and what I disagree with, is the idea that this would create homogeneity. Well, sure, in a poorly designed system it might, but there's plenty of ways it can be done to discourage that. For instance, just like Pokémon can only have 510 total EV's, a change to the IV system to allow for them to be more readily changed and focused may only allow a specific total of IV's. That won't prevent min/maxing, but it does prevent "flawless" Pokémon. If done properly, min/maxing might then lead to greater variety in Pokémon used, as you'd get a much greater variation in the final possible stats for each Pokémon, and subsequently a greater variety in how they end up being used.
Holy shit, I didn't realise Yveltal is 19 foot tall!
Xerneas is only 9'10"...
These new Juniors be feisty. I approve!
Them making it easier to pass them on does not mean they suddenly want people to have flawless Pokémon. All it indicates is that if they are making it easier for someone who has a Pokémon with a great Attack, they can pass it onto an offspring if they wanted to breed the same species with an Egg move. IVs are there to create genetic variation, that is the whole idea of them and it is not an assumption.
I agree that they need to make a system that prevents flawless Pokémon from being easy or even possible to be obtained, but it's a tricky proposition, especially if they wish to keep compatibility with previous games.
His profile would seem to indicate it's him, yes. If it's not, I know he reads this (or at least gets people pointing him to this when something juicy is said), so we'll know soon enough. Why do I have a feeling that Joe is the Joe?These new Juniors be feisty. I approve!
How exactly are you defining "flawless"? Because I never said for a second that they want people to have flawless Pokémon.
The problem with the IV system right now is that it does NOT create genetic variation in competitive battling. All it creates is a lot of grinding as people do whatever is necessary to get as close as possible to "flawless". If they want to actually create actual genetic variation in the Pokémon people are using at all times, and make it possible for people to get into competitive battling without excessive grinding, then an overhaul of the IV system is necessary.
As for compatibility with the old games....what compatibility? The only thing needed is for it to be possible for old Pokémon to be transferred into new games, it's not like we'll be battling Gen V games with Gen VI games. The games can already recalculate stats based on IV's and EV's, so all that's needed is for Pokémon transferred over to be moved into a new IV system. If they switch to a 0-63 IV system (similar to how they switched to 0-31 in Gen III from 0-15 in Gen I & II), and then just give the old Pokémon the exact same IV they have currently (so perfect 31's in Gen V would still be 31's in Gen VI, no longer representing a perfect total)....that'd pretty much solve it.
Why do I have a feeling that Joe is the Joe?
EDIT: He is the Joe! Who's next, I wonder...
Also, in case you forgot, which is how your post reads, the last time they changed the EV and IV system, they cut compatibility. You could not transfer from Gold, Silver & Crystal to Ruby or Sapphire. Yes, there were ways they could, theoretically, have done it, but it wasn't done.
Yep, that's me. Hello![]()
Can we agree that Xerneas looks better than the other guy?
Indeed, though the link cable incompatibility also had to do with it, right?
